    This is my PREMIER of my new series ✨ Get Lost With Me ✨ where I will be documenting my first impressions and drives through various cities. Unlike my Driving ASMR videos there may be minimal talking, beeping, etc. when I need directions, to turn around, etc.
    My first impressions & drive through Schenectady, New York begin in the Downtown Area which is vibrant with restaurants, holiday decorations, and more. I continue on through some residential areas, drive past city Hall, over their "Black Lives Matter" street mural, through what seems like an extension of their downtown area, and accidentally storm the gates of the landmark General Electric (GE) building. Luckily, I'm able to turn around and make my way back towards the downtown area for a few more views before the video ends!
    00:55 - Dowtown Area
    03:00 - Residential Area
    07:45 - Schenectady City Hall
    08:44 - Black Lives Matter Street Mural
    09:30 - Hidden Extension of Downtown Area
    14:30 - Storming the gates of the GE Building
    17:30 - Outskirts
    19:30 - Dowtown Area

    I moved to Schenectady from the Bronx when I was 16 years old back in the early 2000s. In the Bronx, I was doing poorly in school. Schenectady is a vital place that allowed me to grow and mature into a functioning adult during my young adult years. I am grateful for it. I graduated from Schenectady High. I had my first job at Rotterdam Burger King ane then worked at the Rotterdam Wal-Mart. I even delivered the Times Union paper around schenectady for a few years while attending college. I graduated from SCCC. Took a year of classes at Union College. I graduated from UAlbany. I currently live in Tokyo, Japan and have been living here for almost 10 years. I would say that Schenectady is a great place to grow and work. It will help you get to the next step on where you need to go.

    I lived in Schenectady for over 30 years. I worked as an RN case manager for MVP. I had to leave for a better life due to the miss handling of this beautiful city by the officials. Taxes and crime. I put blood sweat and tears to remodel my paid home on Parkwood Blvd.
    I tried my best like a lot of us did. Now living in beautiful NC it almost feels like home. Cost of living is great and on my newly built home is only $2,000 in taxes a year. Schenectady will always be in my heart and soul. Wishing all who stayed best regards. Enjoyed the tour and seeing the sights.

    I used to work and live by the GE Plant during college , and then moved by Union College. They renovated much of downtown since I’ve lived there. I really enjoyed living there, some tough winters there. I actually got to visit again for job interview associated with Bettis Atomic Lab not to long ago. They have a Casino now near the river

    Was special when mom would take me downtown on the bus from Hamburg Street. The Carl Company, Wallaces, Woolworths, all had beautiful stores. Apex Records where you go in and actually listen to a record before buying it. Three movie theaters: The Plaza up on State Street hill, the Proctors and the State. The holidays were like magic when the city was all decorated and the store windows were a wonderland come true.

    Lived in Schenectady in the 60's on 28 North Jay St. I really miss this place. My dad worked at the GE plant. I went to Riverside elementary school. Ty for the memories. It was awesome.

    You should drive in a straight line for a little while if you really want to see the city. It's not a big city but more to it than the downtown/GE area, but I can understand why you may not want to. Spent half my life in that city. Thanks for bringing me back for a bit.

    I lived there 10 years ago. Retired and moved to South Florida. You know what I like the most about this video? I can watch it, shut it off, and thank God I don't live there anymore!! It's not that the city doesn't try to improve it's looks. I hate to say it, but so many of the residents don't give a damn about their environment. The city builds, and the residents just want to destroy public/private property causing it to look so ghetto. And those same citizens complain! No one builds ghettos!

    I spent my childhood (K through Nursing School at Ellis) in the 1940s through 60s living here and I appreciate the look at my old hometown as it is today. It would be so much more meaningful if the street names would show up at the bottom and also the names of the churches, schools, hospitals and other major venues.
    There's a really mixed reaction in me seeing these sights--all the bleakness of bare trees, icy street ruts with sooty snowbanks that made me want to get the hell out. And yet...some of the historical architecture is amazing and there is no dirt or decay evident. I love the little boulevards that have been placed on State Street, yet some of the ginormous high rise buildings seem way too overwhelming. With the right oversight it could become a wonderful town.

      Karen, thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video & post this thoughtful comment! I appreciate the tip and will definitely keep that in mind in the future as I continue my ✨ Get Lost with Me ✨ series.
      I agree that some of the high rise buildings are a little out of place juxtaposed to some of the more modest buildings. Otherwise, I'm truly in awe hearing some of your raw reactions to seeing your childhood hometown again. Thank you again for sharing! Let me know if you've been to any of the other towns featured on my channel. 😊

    • @kalskaleidoscope
      @kalskaleidoscope  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard that it is not the safest city in the Capital region (area surrounding Albany). With that said, I have always felt safe in the areas featured in this video which is in Downtown, Schenectady. Like most cities, there are some areas with more crime than others. If you can take a day or weekend trip Upstate I would definitely recommend it. When you look at apartments or homes check out the surrounding areas for sure to see how comfortable you feel personally! I have some other videos of towns Upstate--definitely check them out on my channel to compare 😊

    • @kalskaleidoscope
      @kalskaleidoscope  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This could be said about a lot of towns throughout the U.S. but it's not 100% true. Some people see the beauty in their lives there and enjoy the town very much as you can see in some other comments. It's just not for you, nothing wrong with that!

      Dying there was a big fear of mine! But after I retired, I left and never went back. I don't miss it at all! Even when I visit family in the Adirondack, I take the highway to avoid going through the city!
