    Hi Darrell Very interesting video. The reflections when you put the black dye in looked brilliant! Don't fancy your syphoning technique. Thanks Jon & Sandra

    Great vlog Darrell, that's a great idea for the water treatment. I think this could be make next garden project.

    Not sure about the black dye and birds. I tested the dye by putting some in the water bowl of my wife's thirsty cat. It jumped flips and ran sideways into a woodlot, never to be seen again. So I highly recommend it for cats!

    Look forward to seeing the photos! Im interested to see how much bokeh you get from the grass behind OR if it makes the image busy...but you can always move the grasses back to blur them out..Cheers!

      Good point. There are two trains of thought behind that. Usually I prefer a completely diffused background. However, in a reflection pool shot I think it looks very staged. See what you think in Sunday's video.

      @@DarrellOakdenPhotography Will do...i recently saw a clever idea where someone had put guttering down the sides and planted shrubs..not only does it prevent the birds from drinking from the side, it adds greenery!

    Hi Darrell, thank you for videos on how to build a reflection pool. I'm just putting a list of materials together. Thankfully I have spare timber over from house renovations, but I was wondering if you could share how long and wide you made yours. I look forward to hearing from you. Mike..........p.s. Just subscribed.

      Mine is 6ft long and 3ft wide. If I was doing it again I wide make it a bit wider and a couple of foot longer. More importantly I would make it higher or would dig a hole to get me lower. At the moment I have to sit on the floor which kills my knees and back. I didn’t give comfort enough thought. At some point I might alter it.

    Darell, next time you need to syphon your pool just lay the hose in the pool and fill it with water. Then put your thumbs over the ends until you have lowered the drain end below the pool water level and with the other end still in the water remove your thumbs. The water will start to syphon with no mouth sucking required.👍

      That’s some fine logic. By the time I next need to siphon something I am bound to have forgotten it though. Thanks for the tip.

    Does the black dye not colour the feathers ?

    • @DarrellOakdenPhotography
      @DarrellOakdenPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it is so diluted does not affect.

    Bonsoir Darrel, vidéo intéressante, mais juste une chose qui me chiffonne, les produits que vous mettez dans l eau ne sont ils pas nocif pour les oiseaux ? Sinon bonnes idées d aménagement

    • @DarrellOakdenPhotography
      @DarrellOakdenPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. They dye is plant based and they are specially formulated not to harm birds.

  • @mickmckean7378

    Ha ha, a better way to start the siphon would be to place the whole hose in the water, or run water into the hose from a tap first to fill the hose.

    • @DarrellOakdenPhotography

      I have had several better suggestions for starting the siphon. Always learning.
