Dr Roark is doing such a great service to pet owners with these videos!! People need to watch, listen and follow his advice. Plus, I really like the Monty Python reference.

I couldn't agree more! I jump for joy when I see this in my inbox! Todays episode worries me though, I had NO idea that Fish Oil was so bad for dogs!! Next I will find out that the pure pumpkin that I give them each morning is toxic! Woe is me! We have a long list right on the fridge of thing NOT to give dogs. I am so paranoid after two elderly dogs getting cancer. It is the "long term' damage that scares me because you don't know you have done it. Years and YEARS ago we had a beautiful chow/shepard furbaby that loved raisins and was given handfulls of them assuming they were a safe sweet treat! He got jaw cancer at 12....then Chevy, who we did NOT give raisins to got prostate cancer at 11. He was a red merle aussie with the most beautiful blue eyes. We now have 2 rescues and since Fish Oil saved Chevy from his lameness, I have been giving it as a supplement about 3 times a week (they are smaller dogs) so I guess I stop that now too. :( I take it as well, but I sure don't want Xylitol in my body either!

Hey Andy, I know this is an older episode but I wanted to tell you that your closed-captioning is really, really good. I know what it takes to do that as we trained instructors on how to caption their videos for classes. Great job and great topic.. minus the puns...Grape Job!!

kaberle7 Just seeing your comment now. Thank you so, so much!! Stephen works hard on the captions, and I know it means a lot to have that work noticed. Thanks so much again!

I love "new favorite" episodes! That mean's we're getting better and better, and that's the goal. Thanks a lot for watching and sharing the videos. We'll keep trying to make "new favorites" all the time!

    LOVE IT! :D
Been seeing an increase in chocolate calls lately... and it's not even easter yet :/
I didn't realize some fish oils had xylitol in them. Yikes.

Would you be able to do an episode about collapsing trachea in small dogs? Love your videos!!

Kathy Sochor This is an excellent suggestion! I'll add it to my list of topics to try to work in. I think many would find it useful.

Pleeeease help... I read from a valid website that it isn't necessary to give your dog heartworm medication. It's an industry ripoff & the side effects can be deadly. The best way is preventing mosquito bites in the first place like a light spraying your dogs coat with home made lemon spray. Anyway, my vet makes me feel ultra guilty & that I don't truely love my pet if I don't give her heart guard meds ( especially if it's from their facility). I really need closure in this issue.

+Warren Ricles I am with your vet on this one (not that you don't love your pet. Just that I think you got bad online advice). I'd drop the lemon spray ASAP. Hope that helps.

NO ONE should eat xylitol! YEch, it can cause serious seizures.

Fish Oils? Fish Oil saved my dog from lameness! Now I am SO worried about continuing this health supplement! He was nearly lame on one of his back legs, we put him on chondro something and he rebounded for another year and while we were 'shopping' surgery prices a vet of our neighbors suggested we try Fish Oil and it brought him back completely and he walks on the let just fine! WTH?

Who says fish oil is bad for our dogs? The 3 items were: chocolate, xylitol, and raisins/grapes.

      chinookvalley Look at the list!

Stu Cabe According to this, there is xyllitol in Fish Oil!! Second from the bottom on the list! Crap.

Hey Stu, You might want to ck w/ Dr Andy, but I've never seen xylitol in fish oil. Mercury, however is a huge concern. Call your pharmacy where you buy the oil to be sure.
