  • Mango Sticky Rice is probably the BEST THAI STREET FOOD item, and I would say the most popular Thailand Night Market selection. You'll find it in many South East Asian street food markets, but it's most popularly known as a Thailand staple. The ingredients are simple - sticky rice, mango, coconut milk, and mungbean - but the taste is nothing short of perfect.
    Recently brought to the world stage by Thai rapper Milli, the singer ate a bowl of Mango Sticky Rice on stage at Coachella! Go Thailand!
    In this video we compare Chiang Mais CHEAPEST Mango Sticky Rice with its most EXPENSIVE Mango Sticky rice.
    Which do you think will be better?
    Rice with dessert? Does that work? Well, you can find out in this video!

    Hi Josie! I'm Thai. I found your videos on youtube, and now I can't stop watching them (I have so much fun with your videos). I have a tip for the sauce bag because sometimes I'm stuck unpacking the sauce bag too. I bite the bottom corner of the bag off, but doing this is not that safe during the pandemic. Sorry for my English skill. I'm learning

    Mango Sticky Rice originated in Thailand hundreds of year ago and widespreaded all over South East Asia recently. It's not Mango and sticky rice in Laos as Lao don't use coconut milk and it's kind of main course not dessert (they eat sticky rice with other fruit) but in Thailand it's a dessert. It also tastes best because Thai magoes are sweet and have unique taste (The original Mango used is Ok-Rong but not popular nowadays due to its look.). Thais usually use coconut milk in food and dessert.

      Thai mangoes just might be the best ever in the world! Much better than mangoes at home. So much coconut milk or coconut food here! Thank you for teaching me this 😊

      @jirayuuttaranakorn503 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Just to add to the originally awesome comment above. Ok-Rong is unique because of its sweet fragrant. The sweetness of Ok-Rong is sharp but not too sweet. Its texture is lighter than Nam-Dok-Mai, which I assume was the ones served in this video.

      Eating sticky rice as desert and speacially with yellow mango dressing or topping by coconut milk is really original Thai.

      Don't be spreading lie that Mango sticky rice was originated in Thailand. You don't have fact to back it up. Fyi, Thailand became a country in 1932. Many parts of Thailand used to belong to Laos.

    • @SuperDiasuke
      @SuperDiasuke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnnybgood3724 Laos's one is totally different from Thai's. They didn't use coconut milk as an ingredient (No coconut trees to grow, no sea border. Growing Coconut trees requires sandy soil) until they got influenced by Thai recipe later. Laos's is some kind of food not dessert. Thai mango sticky rice dates back to Ayutthaya period (1351-1767). Thais usually use coconut milk in most of their food and desset while Lao don't use it. That is so obvious.

    My favourite! Along with Durian sticky rice of course.
    A nice little trivia for you guys.
    Traditional mango sticky rice would use our native variety (okrong, ok-rong; rong =split), a smaller, more rounded variety known for their sweet, syrupy taste, deeper more jewel-toned yellow colour and plump, juicy texture. But they’re a hassle to get a perfect harvest and don’t do so well when it comes to logistics, therefore they usually sell for higher.
    The first one you got was Namdokmai mangoes (sweet barracuda mangoes; dokmai = flower), the next best thing. A softer yellow colour, lighter floral scent and still juicy texture. They’re also better in size, do well for transport and less of a headache to look after during harvest.
    It’s how street vendors could keep mango sticky rice affordable and delicious.
    A tasty compromise indeed, but if you come across a place where they use the smaller, rounder okrong mangoes, make sure to try some. Taste the true gift of nature and human almighty big brain that is proper Thai Mango Sticky Rice. You’d love it 💚

      Actually there are more than hundreds types of mango in Thailand.
      Ok-Rong mango is the original dish of Mango Sticky Rice dessert as it's the most fragrant and extremely sweet but it's smaller than Nam Dokmai mango which popular among the foreigners. It's quite hard to find Ok-Rong from the vendor except in the local market in Bangkok. In my opinion, the taste and sweet smell of Ok-Rong is perfect for sticky rice with coconut cream.

    Actually, It's Thai food not SEA food. It's originally from Thailand. This dish has become famous, so some countries in SEA are trying to claim it. Please don't search the information from WIKIPEDIA..everyone can adjust the story. Thank you.🧡🧡

    • @enbiz8832
      @enbiz8832 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. No other countries in SEA use coconut milk on every food like Thailand especially when paired with sticky rice. Laos may share the the way of eating food with sticky rice for the main dish, not for dessert like Thais. Besides, Laos has no coconut to grow, how would they create menus that they have to buy all the time?
      Durian with sticky rice dessert uses the same component, but only different fruit.

    Many people already talk about Bingsu and I think you ordered the right menu but as they didn't have a traditional mango sticky rice so they thought you mean Bingsu mango sticky rice.
    One more thing about mango (and also other fruits in Thailand) is there are many different mango bleeds (or species? I'm not sure which word I should use) and each one suit a different menu. For example, the one that Chevit Cheva uses for Bingsu is mostly for a drink (e.g.mango shake) or bakery while the one from the cheap traditional dish is especially to eat with sticky rice (there are not many mango bleeds that suit sticky rice) that's why you love the cheap one.

    The thing with durian is, most people don't actually like them much on first encounter. Durian is an acquired taste, and can become addictive as you may find if you keep trying. Do also try durian chips which are very wonderful and moreish but doesn't have the strong smell of fresh durian. I personally don't like durian ice cream however, and I really cannot abide "turian-guan", a jam-like sticky dessert made with durian.

    Normally I do fond of durian, I like the one it’s not too soft or mushy not much too smell.
    But durian sticky rice, we have to use the one that very soft to make it easily blends with sticky rice so durian sticky rice is not my type.

Soft, mushy, hard, crispy! hahah hard for me to keep up! 😂 I don't know if I would like Durian very soft because the texture would be a bit much with also the smell hahaha!
