      @@JakesBricks Thanks! These are great. Watched your other video breaking down shipping and eBay fees. It just strikes me that an entire 1x of your return could be eaten by frictional costs. At what scale could you make it work where you just set up a Shopify storefront and actually pay search engine marketing to drive traffic? Have other investors ever thought about pooling together and setting up a trading/e-commerce platform? Get scale on shipping, marketing costs (which are basically what eBay fees are)?

    • @JakesBricks
      @JakesBricks  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eliseychou this is a great question… I would imagine building traffic takes a lot of marketing dollars. And because there’s so many scamming Lego websites out there, it makes me nervous that people would take a while to determine if it was legit.

    As someone already mention, LEGO GWPs would also be interesting topics.
    As I was complaining before, regarding EU vs US LEGO market, with GWPs is a little better. From my experience, selling multiple copies of same GWP is fortunately not in issue. There is still quite strong market and buyers for this limited sets, even in EU.
    Yes, there are some hit and miss GWP sets, where for a lot of them, we can see so called the race to the bottom and prices on aftermarket plummets, even below LEGO suggested MSRP. Last example is Tribute to LEGO House. But you have some really good ones, that hold the price well, like Blacktron and Forest Hideout.
    Price threshold, to get this GWPs is another story all together, especially for the recent 40583 Houses of the World. You can also also touch on that topic... 😉

    Love to watch this content, great video series.
    Maybe in the future videos you can touch on comparing different markets, especially Europe vs US. Really interesting, how US market is so much stronger regarding LEGO-s overall. Discounts are greater, demand for current and retired sets is way bigger, etc.

    • @JakesBricks
      @JakesBricks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really should do a video on this although my knowledge of the UK market is limited

    • @tomyboy1
      @tomyboy1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JakesBricks Unfortunately UK is not a part of EU anymore. From what I hear, UK has quite strong LEGO market, probably second strongest behind US. Interesting, how LEGO is from Denmark Europe and EU market is lacking behind with quite some margin and it is getting worse and worse, compared to US and UK. Maybe we can only excluded Germany and France, the two richest EU countries.

    Hello from France ! I rewatched the first two videos. Thanks and nice work ! Popularity is important also, of sets and themes, even in the long term, just like with the Elvis set. Elvis will always sell at some point. Not all obvious choices are the only good ones, though. So, this is a pretty tricky topic, and would this be your next topic of choice ? You partially touched on it already with the unique minifigures and pieces, and now colors. I think we have a winner here. 🙂

    Hey man, love your stuff, i think a cool vid would be to sort of document your own growth as an investor. So, for instance to say..."well year one I bought these x number of sets...then i put all of those profits plus some more income back into the biz for year 2 and bought x type and number of sets etc..." I would find that interesting at least ; ), to see how you went from the beginning to now where you appear to have an inventory valued in the mid 5 figures range at least. Also (and maybe you have covered these) but some of the ups and downs of that journey etc would be interesting...like the HS castle sounds like a win, but maybe you have a few you bought 20 of that never moved etc, and what you learned from that...anyhow good stuff, best of luck bud

    Jake do you ever take advantage of cash back on credit cards to lower buy in price? My local sales tax is ~6%. Depending on which credit card I use and from what store (Walmart card, Amazon card). I can get 1.5-5% cash back. So best case, it helps cover most of my sales tax when I buy my sets. The key is you HAVE to pay it off before you get charged interest by the credit card company.

    I’m interested in price point, like how many sets you buy at retail vs discounted. Basically is it a hard rule to never go full retail or does it simply depend on the set? • @JakesBricks
      @JakesBricks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Szymon! This is a tough question to answer. I made a video about this here: th-cam.com/video/Gn_hAAcnDeg/w-d-xo.html
      The quick answer is no, I don't think any set held for 7-10 years could "lose" money. I think re-release would be your biggest concern. So over the years your investment could go down in value but you likely won't lose money.
