Hey, Nice video guide and thanks for linking and not stealing all the credit as many others have, I haven't watched all of it but you just popped up on my homepage so I thought i would comment. Obviously, I am the creator of the guide on cyanlabs. Just a quick note on something you skipped over that can cause issues if not done is to make sure your USB is set to the older MBR partition type instead of the newer GPT (GUID on mac) partition type, this can be done In the Disk Utility app on your Mac, choose View > Show All Devices. then erase the device itself rather than the partitions.
Just did this on my 2018 RS and it worked great! Used a USB 3.0 and the process took about 30 minutes. The first half of the loading bar took 20 minutes, then the last half was 5-10. Climate controls worked right away! Haven't tested navigation, as my parking garage has no service, but I typically use carplay.
@@It7xc ya it definitely takes longer than a normal update since it’s such a big change. I think the biggest thing was the maps updating. All the updates I’ve done since the initial update to 3.4 have been normal (around 15 minutes) since you don’t have to update the maps every time.
Works perfectly fine with 2017 Mondeo (Fusion). I have a non-nav version so the update was about 4x faster. I did not install 20021 but 19200 as the non-nav might not have enough space. Have to check and might try later. I previously had SYNC 3.1 and recently updated to 3.3. The update from 3.3. to 3.4. was okay though. Had to start the car twice after updating but now works great. Great video guide - read the webpage though as well.

Just did a update for my mondeo mk5 2017 with sync 3.0 and F8 maps . Had startup logo " ST performance " and as screen the lincoln version. I am a happy man. Everything works perfect and the same as before. THX Great update.
First off, great detail on the video. I am in the process of following your step by step tutorial to update my f150. One question for you, do you get the Mustang logo at each start up and can that be changed to the Ford logo or F150 logo?
Just did it on my 2018 st2 but I didn't get the climate control button. I'm not mad but I'm curious as to what happened. It looks like the same sync otherwise, just with a gui refresh. Still worth it though, I'm glad Ford maintained the compatibility.
I've been researching doing this since 3.3 came out and they didn't support the 2017 Escape APIM. This is an awesome video. I hope you see this question. Once you do this, how will you update? Does it *see* updates like normal or do you always have to make a USB. I know the reformat is just a one time thing. Please let me know and again... Fantastic walkthough. Subbed.
To update past this you will have to go the USB route again. The website has more details because it's different depending on which version of sync 3.4 you have.
I'm helping a friend that has a Canadian 2017 Ford Explorer and he wants to update his maps will this method work on his vehicle? All the reading I've done from the info your provided tells me it can be done. Since I never did any updates on a vehicle before I would just like to confirm.

Probably depends on what kind of dealership you go to. I have warrantied flashed apims. As long as the engineering number matches your hvbom, the dealership should have no problems.

It should be released for you car I believe. You won't have to update this way if I'm not mistaken. You can check the Ford owners website (just assuming they have that in the UK) and yeah a dealer should be able to update you to this too.
I checked on ford.co.uk , says my software is up to date. I have heard of people getting 3.4 from Eastern European websites! I think I’ll wait until it’s officially released for UK.

Awe man. A friend of mine just told me if i have the GEN 4 late 2019 APIM with 3.3 on it, i can't do this upgrade on mine. Only if i have a GEN 3 APIM 2016-2018. :-( Is this true? If so, how can i upgrade my 3.3 to 3.4? i have Maps 1-19 on it already. My APIM is from a late 2019 Fusion.

Is your APIM a manufacturing date of 2015? I messed up a got a GM5T-14G370-KL from 2016 focus RS but it was manufactured in 11/2015 sync 3. Not sure what version is defaulted on there. Was told I need to find a 2016+ for stability. Was wondering if you know you module born date as I didn’t want to Have a buy yet another one. I think I can get this pen updated to 3.4
TORQUE & TECH maybe by the VIN. Its on a sticker on the backside of the radio . I’m upgrading a 2016 ST1 with a 2016 RS donor reprogrammed. I’m guessing you might be on a 2015 module as you mentioned 3.4 was not intended for this model update. Any stability issues? Have you ever had any issues with your screen prior and after updates?
@@gofast8144 yeah I would assume so too. And nothing major. Screen flickering sometimes. Bluetooth can be a bit shaky (skipping or disconnects here and there)

The month and year might tell a lot which one you have based on the car build month and year this one was 11/18/2015 going into a 2016 RS. Thanks for replying. @@danvalder No. The Sync 3 Nav APIMs have a different module. It is larger than non-nav units to store the map data. If you wanted to add Ford navigation to your APIM, you would need the APIM of a car that came equipped with it. MyFord used an SD Card and could be enabled by enabling the Nav option with third party software.

@@TechnationXyz I got it to work finally. I had a to use an app called Rufus that I use to use to make boot drives for Windows. It formatted the USB drive property. Im currently in my car waiting for it to be done lol
Hello, there is just a little bug. Some times it doesn't recognize my USB flash drive, and sometimes when it does, only half what's on it. That's the only miner. The rest works great.
TORQUE & TECH no it’s right off the start. when I plug it in and start the car it does everything yours did in the video but then before it actually goes black it just throws that error code. I appreciate the help
@@garrettkirby2132 hmm that's odd. Maybe the file was not unzipped properly. I know when I was trying to update officially from Ford once I was getting errors.

TORQUE & TECH You do need Forscan 2.4 (not currently available) or UCDS if you want station logos or calm mode to be enabled.

Dang so if you activated the Ford Performance boot screen through Forscan this would make it go away ?
Oh I'm happy you asked that I didn't update on this. It will go away. That Mustang was only there for that initial boot in the video.

Ford Performance screen actually stayed on the first boot for me.
Non Nav was very fast. Under 10 minutes. Was able to use a 4Gb flash drive as well.
Went to the Cyanlabs site but could not find where I can download the software on their site. Has it been removed?

Yep. All of my programmed features still work after doing this.
When I download on to my Mac laptop it doesn’t download as a zip like yours did just into a file folder
Go to Safari prefences and deselect the checkbox that says open safe files, then download again
Why are you getting files from a third party and not from Ford?
On most Sync 3 systems Ford has decided not to officially issue updates past 3.0.
Not sure if you check here anymore, but did you ever do the APIM firmware. If not, what did you lose by not doing that?

Just using 1 flash drive and updating regularly you should be fine. With the update provided in the link I sent

Your 2016 originally had Sync 2? I hadn't heard of that one. As long as you have Sync 3 you should be good to update.

I'm seeing different things people saying updating from cyanlabs with 3.3 to 3.4 works by following all these steps. It's saying that for USB 1?

It should be released for you car I believe. You won't have to update this way if I'm not mistaken. You can check the Ford owners website (just assuming they have that in the UK) and yeah a dealer should be able to update you to this too.
I checked on ford.co.uk , says my software is up to date. I have heard of people getting 3.4 from Eastern European websites! I think I’ll wait until it’s officially released for UK.

Hey, will there be an official release of SYNC 3.4. on Ford's website? I have SYNC 3.3 on my Mondeo (Europe) now and have read that people with 3.2 or 3.3 should not do it via this and wait for Ford's release. Which version have you updatet from? Thanks
I updated from from 3.0 I've heard that 2019s will get it officially.

Yes. I'm not aware of anyone going from 2.2 to 3.4 so if you wanted to go from 2.2 to 3.0 then to 3.4 you could do that too.

No you need to switch out your Sync system for the Sync 3 system.

Awe man. A friend of mine just told me if i have the GEN 4 late 2019 APIM with 3.3 on it, i can't do this upgrade on mine. Only if i have a GEN 3 APIM 2016-2018. :-( Is this true? If so, how can i upgrade my 3.3 to 3.4? i have Maps 1-19 on it already. My APIM is from a late 2019 Fusion.

Is your APIM a manufacturing date of 2015? I messed up a got a GM5T-14G370-KL from 2016 focus RS but it was manufactured in 11/2015 sync 3. Not sure what version is defaulted on there. Was told I need to find a 2016+ for stability. Was wondering if you know you module born date as I didn’t want to Have a buy yet another one. I think I can get this pen updated to 3.4

TORQUE & TECH maybe by the VIN. Its on a sticker on the backside of the radio . I’m upgrading a 2016 ST1 with a 2016 RS donor reprogrammed. I’m guessing you might be on a 2015 module as you mentioned 3.4 was not intended for this model update. Any stability issues? Have you ever had any issues with your screen prior and after updates?
@@gofast8144 yeah I would assume so too. And nothing major. Screen flickering sometimes. Bluetooth can be a bit shaky (skipping or disconnects here and there)
TORQUE & TECH didnt think to mention your build date also on the driver door. The month and year might tell a lot which one you have based on the car build month and year
this one was 11/18/2015 going into a 2016 RS. Thanks for replying. I use usb audio why I’m wanting the oem car play and just line converter and power my speakers with 4ch and mono for sub. Thanks for replying

@@danvalder No. The Sync 3 Nav APIMs have a different module. It is larger than non-nav units to store the map data. If you wanted to add Ford navigation to your APIM, you would need the APIM of a car that came equipped with it.
MyFord used an SD Card and could be enabled by enabling the Nav option with third party software.

No mostly to keep you from going back in and redoing the drive for the second part of the install

@@CryptoCwis it's a two step process I'm not sure that would work but I also haven't done the update for none nav.
Hello, is it possible to activate NAV on a NO NAV sync3 ?
As far as I know I don't know of a way to activate navigation on no nav cars with Sync 3.

@@TechnationXyz I got it to work finally. I had a to use an app called Rufus that I use to use to make boot drives for Windows. It formatted the USB drive property. Im currently in my car waiting for it to be done lol

Sadly no. You'd have to actually buy the Sync 3 system and install it then you can do it.

Hello, there is just a little bug. Some times it doesn't recognize my USB flash drive, and sometimes when it does, only half what's on it. That's the only miner. The rest works great.

When I plug in the first USB I’m getting error code PKG_ERROR. Any suggestions for this?

TORQUE & TECH no it’s right off the start. when I plug it in and start the car it does everything yours did in the video but then before it actually goes black it just throws that error code. I appreciate the help
@@garrettkirby2132 hmm that's odd. Maybe the file was not unzipped properly. I know when I was trying to update officially from Ford once I was getting errors.
