My mom discovered that I could play by ear with one hand When I was 8 years old and I started taking piano l lessons. I started playing for Sunday school age 12 then church not too much later. I stopped taking lessons after 11th grade because I felt had learned everything I needed for church. My piano teacher never taught church music to me even though she was a head musician and was called songbird of the south. Keys: she said just look at all the scales at the back of the book when you have time. Key signatures:nope lol. Later in life, I took piano and organ in college. Still wasn't prepared for 12 finger chords. Lol. I wish someone had prayed for my hands. They preyed on my gift. My lessons costed more than my pay forca long time but that's another long story. BEAUTIFUL MUSIC AND DEMEANOR. ❤

i know how it feels to be a self taught musician ,it hurts so bad , i started piano in 2019 im trying to teach myself but im so frustrated . i wish i could just wake up one day doing some crazy movements and runs but it's just not happening or at least as fast as i want it to 😔

Great inspiration to me. Whenever I need a lift in my spirit I have the habit of pulling up one of her videos and play it over and over. It does the work every time. You are a great asset the Kingdom. Nuff. blessings. DJ.
Some people are naturally gifted, have a natural facility and take to their instrument like duck to water.. they don’t have to “practice practice practice…”. Only if they meet something they cannot do do they dig in. It really is like God taught them how to play or sing.
And improv is really an art form.
The rest of us have to work at it day and night.

The first thing I thought the first time I saw that video of her in that plad 👗 dress I thought to myself that she was not doing anything all that technically complicated but I felt touched in a completely different way other than how we as musicians over analyze things. I felt comforted by her hyms. Just as Corey Henry usually is a great technical performance he was very different at the Melvin Crispell tribute. If you have a connection with the most high he will bless your playing on some days more than others. And you think to yourself after service 🌞. Where did all that come from???😁
