    BARRY HARRIS ONCE TALKED ABOUT FAMILY OF KEYS ITS FUNNY HOW IM ONLY ASORBING IT NOW AFTER A FEW YEARS.. HE STATED THE NOTES IN C DIMINISHED ARE ALL FAMILY OR LINKED WHICH WE CAN TRANSITION BETWEEN THE REST OF THEM , SAME APPLIES TO OTHER TWO DIMINISHED SCALES, THANKS SEAN, THEORY JUST DOESNT ABSORB OVERNIGHT, THANKS AGAIN SEAN✊🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

      I’ve seen it from Barry Harris also, all this keys share the same diminished, half a step bellow them, that’s actually why it works.

    I’ve been watching this video over and over😭😭 and one thing I picked up is that when he’s doing the 2-5-1 progression as he changes keys, it can also be seen as a 7-3-6 progression in the original key (but the 6 would be a major chord because at the moment you’re thinking of 2-5-1) I hope that helps and hopefully if you guys see anything interesting to point out y’all drop it in the comment section too!✨

    EXCELLENT VIDEO! To a guy that was labeled as "gifted" playing by "ear" and playing the piano & organ for my church the age of 11 - 18, growing up in the church, where I was doing some of this without able to describe it at the time...but I had developed an excellent "ear" from my practice in being in a professional boy's choir, from ages 9 -12. Now, as I'm getting back into playing as an adult, I will take advantage of your training, to help me get back into it again. Thank you so much.

    The B minor seven flat five (b d f a) chord belongs to the C major scale as a seven chord. The B minor seven flat five (b d f a) chord also belongs to the A harmonic major scale as a two chord. This makes it a great chord to pivot from C to A. Sean says when we hear this chord b d f a where are we? In C or A? Thanks Sean for your gifted perspective.

    Sean, this is such an informative and pedagogically sound video! My question is: when I am pivoting between keys, do u recommend pivoting with the melody note of the new key, or the 2-5-1 passing sequence, depending on the proximity of each? So if the melody note of the new key is closer to what i am playing, should I go with that over the 2-5-1 passing sequence method? Will the ear be more accepting of a change that doesn't have to travel as far? Thx!

    • @SeanWilsonPiano
      @SeanWilsonPiano  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Both could likely work although I prefer using a melody note common to both keys and chord it from there. This video was more of an intro into this topic … the 2-5-1 was more of a teaching method to show the point, but when I played examples I focused on melody to pivot to new keys

I see some musicians that play random chords that don’t go in the particular key so it causes some dissonance but they transition and it all makes sense!

      Yeah I’ve seen folks do it but it’s better to plan in advance unless the singer is really skilled

      @@SeanWilsonPiano So true! Some singers don't have a trained ear and it can cause some serious issues if they don't know what's coming.

    It’s crazy how some musicians go decades transposing on the keyboard. It’s like learning Ebonics as a child from hearing your folks speak and never learning new vocabulary words.

    Really interested in learning this concept but having difficulty hearing the piano when it is mixed so quiet compared to the voice level.
