I have a 14" Amati snare in my shop at the moment, beech shell. A gorgeous drum. I need a drum key for it though, as i sold my last one a few months ago before this snare arrived....

    Hi,
I'm also an owner of a 14" Amati snare drum (copy of Ludwig Supraphonic, probably the third or fourth snare from left to right in the photo in the beginning of the video). I replaced the batter and reso heads (for Remo Ambassador/Remo Ambassador Snare Side), and got new snares, but I have trouble setting it all up. I tuned the reso head pretty high, then tuned the batter head somewhere in the middle of the range. When the strainer is off and I hit the drum, it doesn't have as much of these sweet high overtones, but it's rather dark and boomy. I also can't get the tightness of the snares right. Can you explain how to attach the snares to the strainer properly? And how to get the tightness of the snares like yours? I'm also interested in how you tune your reso and batter head.
I really like the sound of your snares, you did a fantastic work. Also love your playing

+adulio98 Hi! Thank you for your comment.
Maybe some day I'll make some video about how I tune my drums.
Can you hear the note of the batter head here, in the video? Choose the drum that you think sounds better than others. Have a try and tune the batter head in the same way. It is very important to obtain the same note beside each of the ten screws.
Now about the reso head. I even don't know why but when I tune 14" snare drums I like to tune bottom head in G. Higher than the batter one. Very high.
I can recommend Puresound snare wires. They are "well suited" to these drums. For Amati drums you need to use a special strap (or cord) to attach the snares. You may buy it in the music store. Check the length of the strap while mounting the snares. You need to have absolutely the same interval from the snares to the hoop on both sides.
And one more thing. Amati "Supra" does not have a snare bed (some of them have but it is too small). So that you can tighten bottom head near the snares slightly more (these 4 screws near the snares). (Of course, you can carry your drum to some workshop and make the snare bed. I made it with one of my drums. But it's not a big deal.)
After that you may have an experiment with the batter head tuning. I hope now you will be able to get a good sound!
      Enjoy!

Great video and great snare drums! I have couple of older ones 5" and piccolo and they are beautiful in sound and appearance also!
Did you made some changes in edges and snare beds of wooden ones and did you replaced snare strainers? I always had trouble with those Amati release side strainer....

      Turkish Cymbals Srbija Thank you!
I made no changes with edges and snare beds of wooden drums but I certainly replaced snare strings. Strainers are original.
