I sit here and watch this video in total awe that such a beast of a game exists. The poor Turbo Duo got the raw end of the deal Stateside but you have a title like *THIS* on it (and the best that can I tell no ports of it either) makes you happy it certainly did have one in the 'ol win column. Great video.
This is a game that every Turbo owner should have the pleasure of going through. It's relaxing yet has it's moments of stress! The game is so enjoyable and just a work of art. Another game that has similar game-play is Loom, also for the Tg16 CD.
Almost no replay value for me, but the adventure was so much fun! So many different paths to take and different ways to win. I had to call the Turbo hotline when I got stuck, and it was incredible how the little and seemingly mundane items you pick up during the game have major effects on how to finish the game. Had to save the game every 10 minutes (it's very easy to die), but it was worth it! Phenomenal game!
HI CHRIS ! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FINALLY REVIEWING THIS GAME ! I'VE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR THIS REVIEW ! IT WAS AWESOME HEARING YOU SAY THAT THIS IS YOUR FAVORITE GAME ON THIS PLATFORM, BECAUSE IT'S MY FAVORITE GAME TOO ! I JUST WISH THAT ERIC WAS ABLE TO EQUIP WEAPONS, ( LIKE SWORDS OR BATTLE AXES ), INSTEAD OF JUST PUNCHING ! BUT, OUTSIDE OF THAT, I FREAKING LOVE THIS GAME ! I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT SOMEONE SOLD A COPY OF BEYOND SHADOWGATE ON EBAY FOR $409.99 ! THAT'S FREAKING NUTS MAN ! IF I KNEW THAT BACK IN 1993, I WOULD'VE BOUGHT 2 COPIES, AND SOLD ONE OF THEM FOR A NICE CHUNK OF CHANGE ! LOL ! I HOPE YOUR DOING WELL CHRIS ! THANKS AGAIN FOR REVIEWING MY FAVORITE GAME ON THIS PLATFORM ! I HOPE YOU HAD A MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR ! TAKE CARE MAN !
Great review. This game always behooved me as I was a big fan of the Kemco/Seika published adventure games. Glad to see a lot of the traditional elements of Shadowgate maintained while making an interesting adventure game around it.
I've been hoping you would review this game, ever since it was mentioned in a Gamesack episode. This looks fun as hell and has beautiful artwork. Great review as always!
So many memories. That intro music gives me chills. The game was scary. Especially the gruesome ways you die! ouch! Thanks again for doing these! PS. I didn't realize it was worth so much! I still have mine right next to me! (no poster though. bummer. not sure where it went)
It's great to have you comin' out with videos regularly again! Another great review as always. I've never heard of this game, but it looks fun so I may check it out. All those different ways you can die remind me a bit of Sierra games hahaha. Love it! Happy Holidays!
On Ebay, the CHEAPEST Beyond Shadowgate sold this year was for $409. The game also sold for $479. I've seen other sellers selling it for MORE than that. SHEESH. Almost everything with the huge DUO logo on the box art (when they threw out the Turbografx-16 logo and officially rebranded everything as "Turbo Duo" during 1993) is mega expensive. The CD version of Bonk 3 (which has the DUO logo on the cover) is about $600. Even the card version of Bonk 3 (which has slightly different box art, but still has the DUO logo on it) goes for about $300. Dynastic Hero (a another DUO logo game) goes for, on average, $500. Another game with the DUO logo on it from 1993 is "Madden Duo CD Football" .... right now, the CHEAPEST price for Madden with the DUO logo is about $100. It shot up in price because earlier in the year, the highest price for that same Madden game was about $40. Sheesh, $100 minimum is expensive for a 16-bit Madden football game. I think I'll just buy 1990's TV Sports Football with the good ol' Turbografx 16 logo for two dollars instead. LOL. Granted, I haven't played that game yet, so maybe it's $2 for a reason? At least Sherlock Holmes 2 (with the huge DUO logo on it) is only $30. However, that's still expensive compared to the Sega CD version which is about three dollars. Sheesh. On a side note, I just saw a bunch of Darkwing Duck cards for Turbografx-16 (NO cases or manuals, game only) selling for $40 - $60 and someone is selling a complete copy of Darkwing Duck for $369 (dead serious. Check out ebay to see the insanity). $369 for Darkwing Duck on Turbografx-16? I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that. LMAO.
I have always thought this game was so gorgeous looking, and the animations (TONS of them) were incredible!!!! This is one of those games I have always said I would try and make time to beat one day, but have not.
Great review as always, game remind me of old Sierra games, at least in Shadowgate you could backtrack, while in Sierra games, there often were points of no return.
My introduction to the series was the port of the original on GBC. I guess the boxart made me think it would be up my alley, but when I got it, I wasn't really prepared for it being a hard to figure out (I was a kid at the time) adventure game. I ended up just getting a walkthrough (probably on cheatcc, my go-to site for codes and stuff at the time) so I could see the ending. That was still in the N64 era but I never did try out the N64 version. It's been so long that I definitely could go back and play through the game; at the very least I remember liking the music.
bartsimpson83 Yeah, that's why i recommended it as a method to play it.For the TG16 at least, prices have climbed so much at auction it is rather insane.
Yeah, barely. Lol. Man that was tough. I might have read one tip or something in a magazine though but I remember beating that one (at least getting ONE of the endings, ha ha)> :)
Just download the ISO and burn it. Works perfectly. I don't know about buying a repro. Sound a bit fraudulent. Might as well burn it IMO. Plus it's free
I waited for this game for ages and was deeply saddened when it didn't seem to materialize in a Babbage's near me. That sucked. Seeing this review, that the game was awesome, sucks even more.
+Paul May OMG, Babbages!!!! I used to go there ALL the time!!!! There wasn't one by me sadly. But, in Ohio (about an hour and a half away) there was one. Ha ha! Love it. :) Thanks for watching.
Man I wanted a Duo so bad back in da day....this Lords of Thunder and Shapeshifter were all ones I drooled over......
Just wanted to say thank you for all your great videos, I watched them extensively leading up to my purchase of a used system and several games!

I appreciate that, truly. Thanks for watching!
Another great episode. Good to have ya back!
Thanks for the kind words. Have a great holiday season!
I'm hear because of Johnny from Happy Console Gamer! I loved Shadowgate on the NES! Sadly I never played this one.

Great review again, I always loved the artwork to this game and it really showed off the power of the Duo then.
It so did. I love this game. Thanks Ryan and have a great holiday!
spida1a You too dude!

It's like a 3DO game that doesn't suck.
This game looks pretty awesome, putting this near the top of my Duo wishlist.
Thanks for watching my friend.

Yup...indeed. If I did not finish my collection in 2003, let's just say Turbo Views would not exist today. Thanks for watching. :)
If I ever get a duo, this will be on my list! Looks fun
Excellent review as always. I am always when I see a channel update from you in my list.
Thanks my friend. I really appreciate that. Have a great holiday!

I am desperate for a copy of this and Dungeon Explorer 2 but...those prices. They make me weep salty tears.
Yeah, I hear you. I wouldn't have my collection if I started today. Ha ha. Thanks for watching!
spida1a It's a pleasure as always Chris. :)
Just checked this game on E-bay....... ya I'm not getting a Turbo complete collection. :) Great review though
Yeah, indeed. Trust me, if I didn't complete my collection in 2003, Chris wouldn't have a complete collection either. Lol. Thanks for watching!
The TG16 has no copy protection, burn it if you want to play it that way.
bartsimpson83 Yeah, that's why i recommended it as a method to play it.For the TG16 at least, prices have climbed so much at auction it is rather insane.
i was thinking u finally made a review of a turbo grafx game without complaining about it. hell no. but was close lol
this game is not available for the turbo grafx. it is for the turbo super cd rom system, much like the sega cd add-on for the genesis.
It is available for the TurboGrafx-16 with CD-ROM add-on along with the Super System Card, yes. It’s an awesome game as well. 😊
5:04 DAMN!
Lol! Right!?? Ha ha.
are you still doing reviews??... there are alot of PC Engine games that have translations now
Looks great
Thanks for watching.
better graphics thsn kings quest is pretty dam.impressive
Did you beat it back in the day without help?
Yeah, barely. Lol. Man that was tough. I might have read one tip or something in a magazine though but I remember beating that one (at least getting ONE of the endings, ha ha)> :)
🤔...💬
I like puzzle games like this
they don't make games like this either anymore
Today is Sunday July 19th 2020
After the dismal sales of the Turbografx 8 in my country they never released the 16
I was not in any club, so that means I am probably not awesome...
No wonder why I am still single! Wait.... that's probably for the best.
Lol! Nah....you're way better off. Ha ha. :)
its basically a darker kings quest clone
Oh boy $400...just a lil out my price range lol
+jet fire That has changed recently with pce works reproduction of the game. It's the cheapest way to have a copy now.
Just download the ISO and burn it. Works perfectly. I don't know about buying a repro. Sound a bit fraudulent. Might as well burn it IMO. Plus it's free
