Cluster conversation from Prefacelift to Facelift Audi A4 // Project B5 Quattro

In this video I will show you how to convert audi a4 b5 pre facelift speedometer cluster to facelift cluster.
Main difference between these are connectors, backlight types, screens and also fonts on the cluster are different.
Facelifted cluster has updated backlights from light bulbs to smd led's, screen has different connector type old one has graphite ribbon cable which can't be repaired if the need be so, facelifted cluster has speaker for warning like temperature and fuel level as well as headlight buzzer when lights are left on leaving the cabin, also the connectors changes from 26 pin to 32 pin ones on the facelifted version.
All of these extras if we consider them like that come as neat little upgrade over outdated cluster.
I was doing this only for the newer type of vdo display and the fact that it hadn't lost all of it's pixels and is repairable in the future.
This upgrade took around two days to complete including collecting all of the info and wiring.

where did you get that frame for the stereo? i took out my old original cassette stereo and put a new Sony one but it seems too little for the radio hole, like there's some plastic frame missing that didn't came with the car nor the radio
Well, actually it not a FL if it has no CAN Bus, clock is still analogue. But its nice. I like your car. :)
new cluster shows 254xxxkm is it showing right or is it showing km from previous car?

hi, my cluster don't have oil temp and volt gauge, if i retrofit one with those gauges it will work? thanks.
If you have existing wiring for the oil temp go for it, otherwise I would suggest aftermarket oil temp gauge and sensor or the reading may be off.

Also, can I upgrade it from the 95/96 model to the 2000/01 year model, bcz of that my old cluster isn't working properly.
Hi there! I'd like to do the same with my B5 but in the video you said it gave a some work because of the sensors. You said you had to disable them by connecting sensors to the ground... what does it mean? that they're not working?

I don’t recall clearly so I won’t be saying definitive answer, but as I remember it there were left over signal sensing wires like parking brake light, washerfluid level warning and some other, If I remember correctly I did ground those wires for unimportant sensors to get rid of the warning lights, wiring for theses cars are peace of cake and if you or anyone else would like to do this, please be very careful wiring diagram may look easy, but it doesn’t take a lot to kill a control module or other electronics for that matter. This took a while to figure out, but good luck anyway!
Hey, my cluster is dead in A4 B5 1995 1.6 And i want to take the instrument cluster from A4 B5 1.8 1998. Did it work? Thanks for the answer sir ☺
If the plugs match it will work. I had an 1.6l cluster in my 1.8T for some time. 😉

How do u change the info on the centerdisplay? What button do u press
On the right side of the steering wheel I had a switch already installed for multi display controls.

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade my cluster as well, but I have the digital clock clusters.
Can you tell me where did you find the information about which cable is which and the pinouts for the ports? My 2 clusters are also very different because one is Magneti Marelli and the other is VDO, but the connectors are the same. I can do the digging myself, just tell me where to start looking please.

Where did you order the new cluster, and is there anything to have in mind when changing it?
Hi! I found mine from local seller on Facebook, but you can order these also on ebay or secondhand parts shop online or from local junkyard.
To be honest just be careful and don't mess with anything that you're not confident working on and keep in mind that older vdo screens that have graphite ribbon cable are not replaceable and newer kind are pretty hard to change without right equipment. :)

Flavio Silveira You will have to look for the new wiring diagram for the new cluster and use existing old cluster wiring diagram to match them.
@@KRX_WestCoast can you share where did you find it or do we have to do it pin by pin... im asking this because im stuck in the diagram some of the wiring is not explained or spelled different thankls
