  • With some newfound issues, tuning is currently on hold until they get resolved. On top of that, I test some theories on oil drain design for bottom mount turbo setups (specifically ebay manifold) and find out that...well watch the video and find out.

    Hey man im glad u finally make an update 🤙🏻
    I saw dylan hughe’s e36 turbo build video on royal purple youtube page. He modified that turbo manifold to allow the turbo sits a bit higher and he doesn’t got smoking problems. Probably thats help. Good luck with the build man

      @@nuisance_carl Bro I don't know alot about turbo builds but I have an e46 I do alot of work on and I can tell you it came with maxpeedingrods suspension and the car was literally undriveable, it felt broken. I would never support that company or buy any of there products again. That manifold could be your issue right there

    • @nuisance_carl

      It's a bottom mount manifold. Some have used it as top mount if you make a custom adapter.

      Hey brother...i intend to use that same manifold for a top mount set up waiting on it from ebay rn everything else is in hand..anyway do you have any idea what type of fab is needed to run this as a top mount. Like a t3 to t3 45° or a 90°??

    • @nuisance_carl
      @nuisance_carl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrispuff5278 Sounds about right. 90° might be a little over the top but I've seen as much as a 180° to position the turbo behind the headlight.

  • @keshav4324
    @keshav4324 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know it's old video but the problem is the concept. Your idea about the water thing is correct.
    But if your drain line is at the same level as your oil in your oil pan then the drain tube will act like a dipstick tube.
    The oil in the pan will create pressure which will make the oil go up and restricting the oil draining from the turbo because the oil is draining due to gravity not atm pressure as the oil drain is not open to atm pressure.

    • @nuisance_carl
      @nuisance_carl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the video, I added a vent to the drain so that both the drain and oil pan were under the same atmospheric pressure. Theoretically, the oil level should have equalized (obviously it didn't).

    • @keshav4324
      @keshav4324 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nuisance_carl yes but it is still at oil level
      And also take into consideration crankcase pressure that may create back pressure in the turbo drain line.

    • @nuisance_carl
      @nuisance_carl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@keshav4324 It's definitely not crankcase pressure that's causing it to back up. Verified that by removing the oil cap and no change.

    Hi, it told you the oil drain problem of bottom mount. I had the same manifold and the same problems. You can not solve this without scavenge pump......
    Oil level is to high with bottom mount. If you fill up the oil it will be in the level of turbo shaft, also with your small catch tank there

    • @nuisance_carl
      @nuisance_carl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I also hate this pump. Im building a mid mount manifold. When im ready i can give you the cad data.
      If you want to remain this manifold then you can bolt the pump at the dip stick und pump from turbo to connecting point of ccv of dipstick

    where you have the bung on the sump is too low that is the problem need to move it up near to engine block. gravity feed on return is the problem also the push on the oil in the pan from blow by also. you need a propper oil catch can set up also factory stuff now is rubbish, also to add that ccv will be restricting crankcase breathing! This is one of the disadvantage of having bottom mount manifold, this is why most people choose top mount manifolds on these engines.

    • @nuisance_carl
      @nuisance_carl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a little too late for me to add a higher bung to the oil pan, and still have a possibility of it not working. I already have a catch can setup but will be adding 2 -10an breathers in the future. I also don’t like top mounts lol

    i had same issue and solved it with scavenge pump, and i made drain to the oil pan on the dip stick side.. right near it at the highest possible place on oil pan... i have some pictures( i guess) can send u them on instagram if u want... i located scavenge pump near crank shaft pulley (where factory AC pump sits) and hose goes from scavenge pump to oil pan righ above place where oil dip stick sits in oil pan. with low mount u cannot really do better without scavenge pump because oil level as i measured on my m54 is right under oil pan gasket... so basicly ur oil level is in ur turbo drain line ...

    • @nuisance_carl

      Not necessarily because it’s bottom mount. There are bottom mounts that work with just gravity drain. It depends on manifold design, how much oil your turbo requires, and your oil drain design.

      People have done it before, but I personally am not a fan of it. You’d still have to drill it out to have the same inner diameter as 10an, which I wouldn’t do on the car. At that point, might as well put a separate bung on

    • @nuisance_carl

      It was at the injectors. A good way to test it is to spray carb cleaner at all possible leak areas. If it is leaking, you’ll notice a change in idle. Don’t do this on a warm engine though.
