    Love the idea of puzzle mats. I’ve wanted to build a space in the garage but carpet foam just isn’t dense enough and I didn’t want to spend the money to order foam and have it shipped. This is perfect. Almost makes me wish I was in your area, you all have figured some things out and I bet that carries over to how you teach as well.

      Thank you for the comment. The system we use at the Academy is 3/4 inch carpet padding underneath the 1 inch foam. There is definitely a cost investment for these materials as well as the tarp we end up velcroing over the top. You could just build the system with layers of puzzle mats and not have to order the foam. However, your cost per square foot may end up being a little bit more to build the foundation of your mats. Let us work on a follow up video where we break down the cost of all the materials and therefore total cost per square foot of the training area. All in all, it is way cheaper than ordering the traditional 8‘ x 4‘ pre-manufactured grappling mats. if you are ever in our area please stop by and see us. And our apologies for taking so long to respond to your comment. 😀

    Would you please link to the 8ft polyethylene mats you found? I can't find them anywhere.

    Will these puzzle mats be effective and safe for me and my friend to have a couple of matches on?

    Will this be effective if i dont get carpet padding and use pure puzzle matts?

    • @northerncoloradojiujitsu6171
      @northerncoloradojiujitsu6171  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Carpet padding tends to be a little bit softer to have underneath than puzzle mats would be but it would still help to complete the system effectively

      I would also look into the cost per square foot of a 3/4 inch thick puzzle mat compared 3/4 inch thick carpet padding

      @@northerncoloradojiujitsu6171 Could you give us an idea of the thickness? I know we can get these things and 14 mm, 16 mm, 20 and so on but I would like to know what I could shoot for.
      I am brainstorming on a smaller bifold wall storage set up in my basement theater room, with wheels, A frame flatten out to the floor, gobs of fixed padding and velcro. Should be awesome, wife will love and committed to roll with!
      I've got a nice sewing machine to attach the velcro. Now what thickness of vinyl matt should I go with?

      @beaugaskell We use three-quarter inches of carpet padding along with 1 inch foam. We have had some really good response and questions regarding how we build our mats and are planning to follow up with another video regarding the breakdown of cost as well as other materials that you could use. Hope this helps. Keep up the training

    What type of Vinyl did you use?

      I am trying to help set up a BJJ gym in the Philippines we are looking into the foam. I think we have figured that out but we do not know what type of Vinyl. It is not cost-effective to order vinyl from a mat company outside the Philippines. shipping would double or triple the price. I have seen PVC but they are I lot of different kinds of PVC vinyl. It is frustrating the how-tos we have found on the internet have international links. They do not explain the pacific vinyl.

      We ordered the vinyl from a company in California named Polyfabrics
