Sylvia Robinson is extremely influential in the history of hip-hop. She founded and was CEO of Sugar Hill Records - the label that introduced most of the world to a whole new musical genre. "Rappers Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang and "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash are just 2 examples. Also, she was half of Ian and Sylvia in the 50s and famously sang "Love is Strange" back in 1957. Off topic - gotta check out Teddy Pendergrass "Close The Door" and many more for some 70s romance.

I never knew that. Thanks. My oldest sister bought the record but I bet I could put my hand on it right now if I tried. I recall singing it on the way to 4th grade. Funny. I pretty much blacked-out the 80's but I recall the 70's quite well through music.

Oh, this is SOOO GOOD! My mom bought a 4 record set back in the early 70's titled "Easy Listening" and it was chock full of pop songs from the 60's and up to that early 70's time frame, and THIS song is on there! Love it! And thankfully, I still HAVE that record set! Motown and every other type of music back then was just SO FANTASTIC!!! Thank you guys for doing this! Two more songs from that record set that I'd recommend from roughly that same era are Freda Payne's BAND OF GOLD, and Love Unlimited's WALKING IN THE RAIN WITH THE ONE I LOVE. You WON'T be disappointed!!!

There were lady artists putting out sexy/sensual stuff in the decade before Madonna and Vanity 6 and those who came after. Sylvia was one of them (check out her song "Sweet Stuff" too). Another was Millie Jackson. Betty Davis (not the actress) was another. Some of Ms. Davis' stuff was so risqué for the time it couldn't be played on the radio. She sometimes wore lingerie in her live performances. I read somewhere that the police raided at least one of her concerts. She did songs like, "They Say I'm Different," "Your Mama Wants You Back," "If I'm in Luck I Might Get Picked Up" and "Anti Love Song." Betty was married to Jazz great Miles Davis.

There were a lot of amazing women artists, but I think most never got the recognition they truly deserved. I am 69, so I hope you forgive my lapse of memory, but I vaguely seem to recall there were a couple songs like the Dinghy song, and Lick it Before You Stick it. But don't recall the artists.

I recommended this to another reactor years ago. This is a cut that is never reacted to. Glad you found this hidden, erotic R&B gem. Her first bit hit was in the duo Mickey and Sylvia, and they had a bit hit with the great song "Love Is Strange". A great companion song to "Pillow Talk" is Donna Summer's "Love to Love You Baby", both of which are similar in presentation and content, and both released around the same time. Give them all a listen.

I have not heard that song in so long. Her voice is so beautiful. You got to remember when she did this, is was really unique. Women didn't sing about those feelings so openly. Even though it was shocking back then, I am touched by just how sweet and gentle her words are. Reminds me a little of the Donna Summers song "I Love to Love You Baby". It was having fun watching all the dancers in the back ground, it looked like Soul Train. Great pic! Have a wonderful day. :)

1973 was a good year. There were so many cold-blooded artists out during this time period, it would really blow your mind. The 70s was 'very much' into making 'love', not 'war'. I don't know what the hell happened with today's music! Thanks for checkin' this out.

Sylvia, a real Jersey girl. She wrote that song, 'Pillow Talk'. A real talent. Most people don't know that she was one-half of an influential duo in the 1950s called 'Mickey and Sylvia'. Their big hit was 'Love Is Strange'. There's some very fancy guitar playing in that song. Both Mickey and Sylvia played the guitar while singing on that song: th-cam.com/video/0fGizY77-q8/w-d-xo.html. Mickey was one of the great guitarists going back to the '40s, and he taught Sylvia how to play guitar.

Awesome Awesome Awesome YES!!!! someone finally reacted to this song. this is how you sing a song about sex and not making it sound filthy. Not one dirty word. But yet probably one of the sexiest songs ever recorded. Sylvia Robinson and her husband Joe are responsible for making some of the greatest Sweet Soul Music to ever come out of the late 60s and 70s. Their record labels all Platinum/Stang/vibrations.Had one of the baddest groups ever.Want to talk about baby making music. I'm talking about the Moments this is just a teeny tiny bit of a few their recordings Not on the outside but inside strong. Sexy mama love on a two-way street. Look at me I'm in love. I Do. Gotta find a way Candy shack. I believe in you. Which has one of the most beautiful intro ever put down on wax all 56 seconds of it.Girls which was the moments and the whanauts. Another fantastic group. The great Linda Jones Leslie Valentine she recorded the original love on a two-way street and I won't do anything just to name a few. Not only that but Sylvia Robinson is considered the mother of hip Hop when she signed sugarhill gang and recorded rappers delight. Oh yeah I forgot she also made a great version of my thing originally recorded by The Moments and also recorded Love is strange as the duo Mickey and Sylvia and also when you listen to a lot of the recordings on all Platinum.. it's Sylvia doing a lot of the background vocals on the recordings✌️♥️
