I worked for Sylvia Robinson at Sugarhill Records as a producer/engineer for almost 2 years. Ms.Rob was the real deal. What a multi talented woman! Rumors say that the character Cookie from the TV show Empire was derived from Sylvia Robinson. Ms. Rob was also a savvy business woman, but she also was compassionate. I helped her pick up Toys and gifts that she bought for kids in Englewood N.J. and the Bahamas. She did this every Christmas. God bless her soul. Gone but never forgotten and forever loved.
She wasn't a savvy business woman she was a blood-clat thief who ripped off young Blacx rappers with bad contracts that affects them right up to this day.😠

Yeah it was a dope romantic song and I was only 8yrs old. But I had a connection with music early as a child. I remember I had to 5 or 6yrs old. I told my mom I loved "Bob Scaggs, Dirty Low Down. Remember the slick drum beat
Growing up in a lily-white town, and being 13 years old when this song came out, I didn't know what hit me. Wow! One of the greatest songs and singing performances of all time. Still sounds fantastic a half century later.
I really love this song. I was a little girl when this song came out. I love the sound of her voice. She sounds like she's whispering through the whole song.
To this day, when I listen to song, I just melt. Not only is it one of the sexiest songs in history, but Sylvia absolutely nailed it. No one else can cover this song and come near the original.
She was never on Motown. This song has an Al Green grove to it. Al turned it down because of his religious leanings. 🙄. Ok Al. More like Memphis or even Philly.
Remembering: SYLVIA. May 29, 1935- September 29, 2011 Sylvia Robinson-Singer and Founder of Sugar Hill Records. She had 2 gold records: LOVE IS STRANGE (1957) and PILLOW TALK (1973). She was founder and CEO of Sugar Hill Record label. Her 2 landmark gold singles were: THE RAPPER'S DELIGHT (1979) by the Sugar Hill Gang and THE MESSAGE (1982) by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
Thank God you said that! I had 45 records of Pillow Talk and Sweet Stuff and those two songs were suggestive for their time, and radio jocks had to fade out the orgasmic sounds from both records. It wasn't until 1976 Donna Summer came along with the 10 minute long Love To Love You Baby adding her moans and groans thru the entire record, and once again radio jocks had to fade out the suggestive parts. But those songs were tame compared to the overtly sexual lyrics of so-called "love songs" now where u hear the f bomb , and d*** and p***y all thru the songs. Now, I never heard Sade do any suggestive sounds in any of her records and I had all of her albums. She has a naturally husky voice which could be mistaken for suggestive. The only two that did it as u said, was Sylvia Robinson and the Donna Summer.
Damn! Talk about nostalgia, this is the ultimate epitome. I remember my uncles and aunts listening to this classic song by Sylvia. Just reminiscing and it is so dear. My! My! My!
I was only a year old when this song came out but growing up in a household where Oldies but Goodies ruled I remember hearing it later as a little girl

I heard this beautiful song on Polish Radio. How I envied you in the West that you could not only hear but also see this artist. In our country, behind the "iron gate" there was no such possibility, even on TV.
This song makes me think of the first day of summer vacation 1973. I was 9. A teen age neighbor was washing his car. This song was playing on KASH AM, Eugene, OR. I feel sorry for anyone too young to have experience that era.
