I sometimes get frustrated when I practice and I end up taking a break and coming back to it. And i get it sounding better after I calm down
YES. That's the key though. Most people don't ever come back! That's where the true magic is!
I really enjoyed watching you practice and work with yourself when you messing up. To me, all your practice videos are very inspirational and they always make me want to practice!! Also I love the fact that your roommate listen to you practice, I think that's fun to always have a live audience even when practicing. Keep it up I'm loving this 30 Days of TVK
Seeing you practice was so helpful to me. I'm going to be principal cello for my high school's symphony orchestra and chamber group, and I've been practicing super hard to get ready to lead a section. It doesn't help that the section leader last year was a prodigy (who is now studying music ed at a conservatory), so I have big shoes to fill. Seeing your frustration makes me feel a lot better about my own frustration while practicing. Love your videos, keep up the great work

Okay, I feel better about my practices being an exercise in frustration. When I grow up I want to play as well as you do. Your intonation is beautiful.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I also study viola at college and completely understand the practice struggles. I actually just came from a particularly frustrating practice session and this video helped me feel better. Just wondering- do you find making videos yourself helpful for practice reference? Maybe not solely for the sake of watching later but to have the feeling that you're playing for an audience? Also, do you have any tips for dealing with hand pain while practicing? I have very small hands and am constantly having to stretch my fingers, which causes a lot of strain in the muscles by my thumb and the tendons in between my fingers.
Anywho, so thankful to see someone who is sharing their passion about the viola! I love how you said that the instrument is like the human voice, because I really get that sense when I hear someone play with everything they've got. You are a really good example of this because your sound is so full and rich and resonant (so jealous but also proud)! Keep doing what you're doing- you inspire the viola nation!😄🎻

Thank you for this video !! I honestly get super frustrated practicing viola and like you said, it shows that you are human. You're an amazing violist and it's so great seeing people play such an underrated instrument. Seriously, the viola doesn't get as much credit as it deserves. Actually would be very valuable for beginners. "Adam Neely" posted a 5 hour scale practice (bass) and it gave some good information on habits and practicing techniques for scales. Would be very nice to have something similar from a string instrumentalist - a raw/uncut, natural, everyday practice session preferably with your technique exercises and even a "new" piece of "in progress" repertoire..

Hey! I absolutely love your channel. Although I play the violin I find your videos very helpful and encouraging but I have only been playing for two years. I can't believe you don't have more subscribers because you deserve more! Anyways I just wanted to say thank you for your dedication. Whenever I feel bad about my playing I always watch your videos. All my friends are in the top orchestra and it's hard knowing that they're all better than me, but your videos motivate me to do the best I can. Thank you.

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but why didn't you get a card reader built into Gizmo? Or even remove the flap? I have had an inbuilt card reader for several years, and it works great :) As for music, one day I might get a viola, but for now videos like this one inspire me to find out how to make my harp playing better.
I just didn't think about it when I was making the build. It's not a big deal though--this'll work well!

In your past video you said to prioritize your work ethic, but I have a love in music but plan to go to a non music school for my undergrads. So I need to study in school and practice music. But in the 4 quarter that is easier said than done. So im confused on what I should be doing with my time.
You need to focus on your studies. Music will have to be a hobby. You can't do everything, homie!

Omg the fingernail struggle is so real. I'm studying classical guitar and I can't count the number of times I've messed up passages from fingernail buzz. Also as a classical guitarist I have to keep the nails on my right hand at the right length/shape to pluck the strings so nails are a daily struggle for me lmao.

thanks for showing your practice session, making me feel less alone... sometimes practicing can get really frustrating when you're trying to perfect a whole piece, but you keep messing up a little bits every time you start over. haha

I don't know anything about teaching haha. I think you just need to share what you know. Your student will have plenty of questions, so just answer them! Let it happen organically
