Fellow Oregonian here. Really appreciate these videos I’ve watched then ran the Timothy lake marathon thanks to you. Planning to do the 50 miler in 2024! Appreciate the content buddy! Well done! You make it look easy haha

Mr. Mueller, that is awesome. Congrats on running the marathon and getting some inspiration from me. Remember that Mt. Hood 50 Miler is a lottery, good chance of getting it, but be sure to sign up on Ultrasignup so you don't miss out starting around New Year. It's a great first 50 Miler course. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Adam thanks for watching! I plan on doing a future video on the setup. The rooftop tent is a “GoFastCamper” and the drawer is “DECKED USA”.

I'd love to see an update on your vehicle. All inclusive. What worked? what didn't work? What are you using for power? What's in your Decked?

Very cool!! I did a 50k in Colorado last yr and am considering 50m in the future. Do you have any videos on how you trained? Or tips for peak week mileage?

    • @TheDisillusioned1811

Kathleen, thanks for watching and the positive feedback. Go for a 50 miler! For training, it really depends on which race you pick, Look at the total vertical ascent/desecent for the race and that should dictate the amount/type of training you should do. For this race it had around 6,000' of vert for 50 Miles, so I did a lot of "running". I averaged around 60-65 miles a week with 2K -5K in vert. For a first 50 Miler make sure you don't pick something with a bunch of vert or if you aren't from Colorado, don't pick a race at high altitude. Set yourself up to succeed with the right race, find terrain profiles that mimic the race and train on that. Play around with running with trekking poles. For training I am big fan of uphill repeats along with polarized training. For example go do some uphill running/hiking on one day, then the next day an easy recovery run, then the following day run flat and work on speed, repeat process. Be sure to take some de-load weeks 50% volume, to let your body recover and grow from all your hard work. I can go on for hours about this stuff, good luck and go conquer.

@@TheDisillusioned1811 taking a screenshot!! That's all so helpful! I do live in CO! The 50k was a little longer, 34mi with 4k vert. My longest run was a marathon and i trained on 3 runs a wk +2-3 strength sessions. For the 50miles I'm thinking to do an endurance run in the springs that loops a lake and is flat. I feel like it'd simplify training and as a mom of a 1and3yo, simple is helpful. I kinda think the jump from 34 to 50 but *without* the vert would kinda level out in some ways and maybe my training could be similar to last yr. Perhaps just two marathons vs 1. Idk tho, I'm gonna chew on your advice!! I'm really still feeling it out as an idea but I'm 75% sure I'm gonna do it!! I may end up asking you more questions 😅

@@kathleenbolanos sounds like a great idea. The loop can be your aid station, if it’s flat you probably won’t need trekking poles. If you can run a sub 2 hour fairly flat 1/2 marathon without destroying yourself I would guess you could do that 50 miler in about 11 hours or less. You can contact me on instagram @Matt_Mankey and just DM your questions if you have any. Consistency is key and try not to do “Hero” workouts. I would add one more run into your training program and make it a back2back run. So 2 continuous days of running with one of them being your long run for the week.
