- Best oil catch can & Worst with PROOF of damage? If you own a Naturally aspirated engine or a GDI there are many benefits such as how to stop oil consumption that could lead to catalytic converter problems. Also buildup on the intake valves is a issue. Oil catch cans work but it depends on what you are using. I have the same foamy goo in the breather of my sand rail......I cleaned it today and a ton of that goop came out.
It's not just what catch can one uses. If the car engine is in good shape you collect less oil from blowby. If you use good quality oil, you get less blowby. If you drive more conservatively (mostly on low rpms) you get less blowby. Catch cans only can catch whats thrown out of the pcv valve. Catch cansz do not make thAt gunk.
I’ve asked him here on the replies. He hasn’t answered. I’ve wondered as well. Also he gets a lot of deposits on his valves. Must have a bad PVC valve idk.
10k miles during a dry spell will give different results than 10k miles of humidity like during a rainy season.
That's what I'm discovering with mine. At the same time I catch can media got coated with pudding, my thermostat was holding at just 180°. Ten mile trips were not burning or vaporizing all the moisture out of the engine.
In fairness, my catch can had been installed for 4 months and the average temperature for the last month hasn't been much about 42 degrees. My coolant level hasn't changed much, so I assumed a lot of this is condensation.
I'm building a new 32 oz catch can, twice the size of my old one. I also replace my thermostat so it's at 195 now. I'm sure and during cold weather, 15 degrees too cold is a tremendous difference.
I upped my thermostat from 192 to 195F and it made a huge difference in burning off that condensation. @@randywl8925

Videos are getting to be too fast, to quick. A little confusing. Im gatherong the gold can is breaking down. You've been using it for the past year. My catch cans are similar to your black can. They work great.

Tu sistema está mezclando agua condensada con aceite. Revisa la tapa de aceite de tu motor, quizá tu empaque de cabeza esté dañado. O tu sistema de admisión turbo está condensando agua si tienes conectado el retorno a la admisión.
Tengo un GLI 2.0 tfsi, recién instalé catch can y sale igual al del video, cabe destacar que no consume nada de refrigerante, hace como 1 año se cambió junta de cabeza por otro problema, el coche anda sin problema pero me sacó de onda el porqué sale agua con aceite repito. Idéntico al del video
Do you think you could por seafoam into the catch can and when the
engine is running it will gradually pull vacuum and atomize the seafoam
into the intake and clean the valves for you?

Great for most. Over engineering for some, but when has doing better been a bad thing?
For direct injection motors mostly. Port injection it’s not as effective. But anytime less oil drips on to your valves the better

I've purchased a Jtl brand for my 98 chevy silverado and it seems to catch about an ounce every thousand miles but never has the oil 🛢 looked discolored its always black not brown
It would seem that yours is mostly oil vapor and less fuel inside it. Thats good and Thanks for sharing with us.
Hey Nate. If I recall, you used one of those small air compressor filters on your car. Would that be safe to run between the clean side of the engine into the air box hose? I have a 2017 impala ltz with the 3.6, I have a catch can on the dirty side. When I changed my spark plugs I noticed a small spot with oil on it. Seems the air box vacuums when full open throttle. Should I run a small filter then? Thanks for any help. Your channel is awesome.

Thats a blown head gasket. No oil in the world should have that color, doesnt matter if is changed or not.
if there is a vacuum leak in the can that would foam up the oil like that I would bet.
Hello sir , why we need to use oil catch can ?
It’s usually for older cars that would have a vent in valve cover that would lead back into the intake and any oil vapours that vent out are meant to be burnt off by the engine. This can lead to gunk build up overtime in the intake and on the piston heads, leading to loss in power and performance. The oil catch can basically allows the venting to pass through it and allows that oil vapour to collect. Basically all that oil you see collected would have been sucked into the intake of the engine and burned off over time. I haven’t used one since my 85 Toyota Trueno, but I wonder if any are still needed today?
@@EpicBenjo There is a interesting video on youtube that advises against a catch can, it went something like this.. A catch can basically slows down the venting so that the vapours condense into a fluid and can be caught, the problem is that the vapours are not being burnt off quickly enough due to the can and the length of the hoses etc, This causes a build up of gases which then causes issues..The guy tested this by pushing air through the original crankcase breather and then the catch can. there was a marked difference in the psi from the can, it was much lower..So its not allowing gases to pass through it quickly enough.. I'm presuming that the many videos that claim to have engine damage after using a catch can is due to this..His argument was that the risk of engine damage kinda outweighs a little build up of oil etc in the inlet manifold, which can be cleaned..After watching this i decided against a catch can..

@@benjammin1212 The whole point of a catch can is to slow down the velocity of the crankcase vapors/contaminants so they can drop out and be collected, instead of being deposited on valves/pistons etc. So I don't quite follow what you stated there.
@@clarkharvell5242 you have basically stated exactly what the problem could be, the slowing down of the vapors, as i stated, i'm no mechanic, but there are plenty of utube vids talking about engine damage.. once you add the can and its hoses it possibly slows it down too much..
OCC shouldn't be installed by all means in any modern cars the harm it will do is much more than its benefits

i see some good benefits but saw video of scotty he said good for gdi but not in ejections cars or new mondern car but i see even small bad oil better than nothing? some say in winter need to keep can empty? so hard to understand@@FalconWing1813
