    I’ve been djing close to 30 years. I don’t own a set yet but after playing on 1200’s vinyl and cdj 1200’s(sl-1200dz) in clubs , house parties, etc. I can see how phase will allow you to still play on your turntables without worrying about needle or record wear . Also vibration from speakers and the person who bumps your table. It’s definitely my next purchase for my set up. Great video!!!! 💯

    Not many people who invest in a turntable system can keep up with the maintenance of buying needles and vinyl over time🙋‍♂. Especially when you're starting out and want to practice everyday. Phase was my best friend during 2020-2021! Can't believe I could just keep practicing without worrying about snapping a needle or fading my vinyl. The less we have to worry about hardware, the more freedom we have to enjoy DJing.

    • @djcarlo

      Now you've to worry about when your batteries will fail and you will end up with a nice and useless piece of plastic. Not to mention the time it will take to send your remote (if still in warranty) to the manufacturer and wait for return. Not to mention the issues involved in using a licensing propietary system.

  • @billbangz
    @billbangz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    Technology has literally watered down the basic art form of DJing. Balance & Touch is the beginners first basic lesson of becoming a DJ & we used a penny or nickel until we didn't need them anymore. Today's DJ wants to drive the Lamborghini without ever learning how to ride a Bicycle. I'm not knocking anyone but fancy equipment & technological advancements alone doesn't qualify someone to call themselves a DJ it just makes them a studio engineer...

    • @reno5159
      @reno5159 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Phase is rubbish. All serato gear. Sound quality is limited to the connection speed of ur laptop. Tunes sound way fatter on vinyl IMO. Cdjs are different cus it's all standalone but I'd still prefer vinyl giving the option

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's a fair assessment of it Bill, though I do believe that technology has allowed old school DJs to flourish in different aspects too. They've got the Lambo, but now it's an SV the way I see it

      Do you mind explaining the penny or nickel part for me?

    • @billbangz
      @billbangz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@MautreXvids It's nothing complicated. With the older style turntables the tone arm would jump/skip while learning to dj, so we used to place a nickel or penny on top of the needle head as a makeshift weight until we learned to control our touch better.

I enjoy the challenge of needles but I know when I'm playing in a loud setting I wouldn't have to worry about that needle going off of the record. In my institute we have a teacher who uses a device like this (very similar, I don't know if it's the same brand), but he doesn't teach in my class, and he still hasn't taught us how it works, we did go to a session of it and I saw it running but that's it.
    I would love to have one like this so I can try it out on vinyl and to be able to take it to class so that we can use it with the equipment that we have in the institute. And learning to use it correctly. Since we are studying an Intermediate Degree in which a part is focused on the world of Deejing
    It makes me very curious and I would really like to have one and see how it works.

    I’ve had phase for about 7 months and I love it. It has taken a second to get my father onto the phase wave because he’s a true old school dj and doesn’t even like using anything having to do with digital but I’ve finally got him onto it lol. The only problem I have is because of the style of beatmatching that I do. I can’t use the spindle to slow down the song but it’s made me able now to match by nudging the sides

      Hopefully! But something like my problem may end up needing a hardware update

      @@UONeal My anti drift has always been off. It's not that sadly.

    These are some cool devices! Back in the day with turntables I always had to put some foam underneath the deck case to avoid rumble.

      It's a legit issue Peter! Even with the perfect set up, you never know what *could* happen!

    I started off on turntables back in 1992 because that's the only option. There were no CDJs, no computers with MIDI controls. Over time, I got into CDs and then digital and never looked back.
    Outside of the problems shown here in this video, there was also the issue that for a while, I would show up to events and their turntables would be broken, malfunctioning, or just messed up. It becomes disconcerting when you're going to play and the club's equipment is broken.
    After a while, you just started to not see the turntables around any more. I also would notice if those turntables are broken or faulty, and you're trying to use time code vinyl, it becomes sketchy and problematic.
    What I love about a MIDI control is that I can walk in, hook it up quickly, play, and I don't have to worry about if the club's equipment is solid or not. We can all say that a club should have proper equipment, but reality shows more times than not that it's never the case.
    I've heard the death about the touch of vinyl, the warmth, comment, etc, but to be honest, I love the music more than I love the medium. I think now turntables are more a niche thing if you want to do it. However, the days of turntables being the standard are far over.

      Brutally honest, but it's indeed the truth Alex. Time marches on, and so does technology. I'm just glad some tech (like Phase) allows some of us to still keep the old ways alive in some form or fashion.

    As a Bedroom DJ and hobbist. I started my set up with Turntables but I have been looking for an opportunity to try out Phase. I am tired of using my needles as sometimes they skip or I get feedback from dust. I hope that I am not to late to enter the giveaway.

      Ahhh, the needle dust. Always a problem for me in certain environments. For now, good luck on the contest Nicholas!

    I'm thinking of purchasing this but 1 thing come's to my mind: what about when the PHASE rechargable batteries don't charge any longer after several year's of use? Are the batteries replacecable or would I need to buy another pair of controllers? I really don't want to buy disposable controllers for over 400 dollars. If this is the case, PHASE should give djays this option, especially for what they charge.

      From what I recall, they've got a replacement service for dead or dying remotes! You'll just need to get in touch with them
