Thank you for sharing. The stitch was a little hard to make as my hook would catch on the last two stitches, so I make one with just half double crochet and it turned out lovely.
This is really adorable! My niece is having a baby and we are not too sure what baby is yet, so I am preparing. Thanks so much for sharing, and I can't wait to start making some!
Yes. You can add as many chains as you need to the pattern just know that you are adding those chains to the side of the headband that does not have the hole in it. So once you create the hole for the other end to go through, you should not have increased on the bow side of that hole. I hope that makes sense.
I am a beginner. You explain everything so well! However I used same crochet hook and medium 4 yarn but I don’t understand how to gauge size? Can you help me? The headband I made turned out beautifully, but too small. Did size for small baby. TIA
Gauge is simply measuring the number of stitches per inch. If I have 4 stitches per inch and you have 5 stitches per inch then the sizes will be different. The most stitches per inch the smaller the item will be. If yours came out too small then I would go up a hook size.
Ok I’m making for a newborn girl . Today I did another style it had 50 chains - I chose 67 chains however I decreased my hook size to a 3.5 . And yes I had never done a YOSLS before after watching it 3 times and screaming at my iPad I got it as well !
I only have it up to toddlers, but if you don't mind the size of the bow, you can add as many chains as you need then just follow the video or written pattern and it should still come out. I wrote it that way so I didn't have to add any confusing sizing instructions. You will see the pattern says Yarn Over Slip Stitch "across". That allows for the different starting chain amounts.
Upon finishing everything before assembling the bow, would you recommend I block it before I assemble the bow just to make it sit better and more evenly? This is only me second project I've done so far and it's looking great but I don't know when to block and when not to lol
If you find that the bow is curling you could block it. If you assemble it and then the bow is curling, you can still block it then to get the bow to lay flat.
I’m a beginner and I can’t seem to get the hang of the YOSLST. I can’t get my hook through this SL through the other 2 loops no matter how loosely I make my stitches. Any suggestions?
The best thing to say is to yarn over really loosely but it is it giving you too much trouble you can replace it with a half double crochet. It will look a little bit different but you would be able to finish the pattern.
You want to make the size that matches the head circumference of the baby. This head band is worked as all one piece so when you chain, part of that chain is the bow and will not be part of the headband circumference.
If you are adding more rows then you will need to add the same amount of rows before and after the row that adds the hole to make the bow, but to make the headband bigger you will need to add more chains and not rows.
With a half double crochet you will pull up a loop from the next stitch then yarn over and pull the first loop through the last three loops on the hook. With the yarn over slip stitch you do not do the last yarn over. You pull a loop up from the next stitch then pull that same loop through the last two loops on the hook. So the difference is that last yarn over.
It is probably just or tension difference. Make sure that you are working yarn over slip stitches and not half double crochet stitches. That would add more width. They are very similar stitches but not the same.
So do you know what size a baby 3-6 months will be? Im making a dress so Im gonna make this headband d match! The dress is 3-6 months. I cant really measure the babies head bc its not born yet.
The Craft yarn council puts a baby headsize at 14-16 inches. My 9 month has a 17 inch head and she was born with a 13 inch head. So maybe 14-15 inch range.
@@WindingRoadCrochet I used a 5.25mm hook it's not too tight but I did notice when I completed it was a little more stiff but it still looks good, I will definitely work on my tension and I will also block before I assemble the bow 🙂
I’ve chained 87 stitches for a large baby. There is no way this will fit a baby…I will finish it and show you. I think it will fit an adult. I am determined to finish, the stitch has given me a hard time. 😅
Did you check your gauge? Also remember that part of the length will be used for the bow. This Bow headband is worked all as one piece. I want to say roughly 4-5 inches of the length will be used for the bow and not be a part of the length.
Your gauge is the number of stitches per a certain number of inches. Everyone crochets differently. We can all use the same yarn and same size hook, but some people crochet loosely and some crochet very tight. So when people work 87 stitches the end measurement will all be different. Sometimes it will be a drastic difference and sometimes it will be a small difference. We use a gauge to help make sure the size comes out correctly. The gauge for this pattern is 8 YOSLST X 8 Rows = 2 inches. So if you measure out 8 stitches, it should equal 2 inches. If it equals more than 2 inches, then you will need to use a smaller hook. Here is a video from a friend of mine that explains gauge very well: th-cam.com/video/iE-x56v59Vo/w-d-xo.html
I also have a hard time with the stitch when pulling the yarn through the last two loops on the hook. The hook just doesn’t want to go through. What I do is turn my hook toward the back and pull through. Hope this is helpful!
The largest size I have is to CH 97 for a toddler size and the headband should be 18 inches in circumference and fit a 18-20 inch head. My head is 22 inches as an adult so I would try that size for a 4 year old.
Did you check your gauge? Everyone crochets differently, some crochet tight and some crochet very loose. Make sure to adjust your hook size to meet the required gauge for the pattern.
Have you completed the pattern? Part of the length (about 4-5 inches) are used for the bow and does not contribute to the final circumference. If you have taken that into consideration already then I would check your gauge.
Make sure to check your gauge and remember that this is worked as all one piece, so some of that length is used for the bow. I would say about 4 inches of the length gets used for the bow. The gauge is 4 stitches per inch. 96 sts = 24 inches - (4-5 inches for the bow) = about 19-20 inches circumference for the headband. If that still seems big then you can go down a size to get a headband that is 17-18 inches.
Did you check the gauge? Also did you finish the pattern or just work a few rows. You have to remember that the bow is part of that length and it will overlap and make the headband smaller.
How didn't I know about you before? Someone used your half circle apron pattern and commented on it for Wings donation at Roselikescrochet. I subscribed to you now. Hi! 🤗😇 That's a really cute baby headband.

That is a great alternative. This stitch can be a bit tricky.

My pleasure 😊 They work up fast.
Very good tutorial. Thx
Thank you!!
so nice
Many many thanks
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks
You're welcome 😊
You think if I do super bulky yarn it could still work? I have some leftover super soft
You would have to experiment. Start with the smallest size and see if it is big when completed.
These are adorable❤
Thank you!
So beautiful,must try
You should!

@@WindingRoadCrochet yes it is beautiful

I loved the simplicity of the headband for little girls. Do you have a pattern for older or women?
I only have it up to toddlers, but if you don't mind the size of the bow, you can add as many chains as you need then just follow the video or written pattern and it should still come out. @@WindingRoadCrochetawesome thank you so much 😃
Love the headband, could you give me the measurements for a 0/3 month please.
12 inches circumference for 0/3 months. It is pretty small. That is with a gauge of 4 sts per inch.
If I’m using a #5 chunky yarn and a H hook, how many less to chain than the 67 for the smallest pattern you provide
Thx
It would depend on your gauge. Size 5 yarn is double the thickness as size 4.
Thank you for this video! One of the bow ends were to big and not curvy. Do you know the problem. Also I'm 11 rears old making this.
The ends are meant to be flat but might pick up a curve because we are cinching down the middle.
@Winding Road Crochet. Thank you for telling me that! I just undid and restarted my work. And it seems like that's the problem.
I’m a beginner and I can’t seem to get the hang of the YOSLST. I can’t get my hook through this SL through the other 2 loops no matter how loosely I make my stitches. Any suggestions?

IS SO LOVING❤❤❤❤❤ PIEASE DO U KNOW HOW TO KNIT HIJAB
I am not the best knitter. I mostly crochet.
Should I chain according to the head circumference of baby?
You want to make the size that matches the head circumference of the baby. This head band is worked as all one piece so when you chain, part of that chain is the bow and will not be part of the headband circumference.
very nice work💗
Thank you! 😊
For a tiny wool and small knitting wool... please how many should i crochet at the beginning 😢
It depends on your gauge.
@@WindingRoadCrochet thank you very much
I am knitting it already
Can I add more rows and how do i do that so the baby gets it tight
If you are adding more rows then you will need to add the same amount of rows before and after the row that adds the hole to make the bow, but to make the headband bigger you will need to add more chains and not rows.
Wow ❤
Thanks
Good 👍👍😊
Thanks 😊
Would it be the same if u used size 3 yarn?
Size 3 yarn is half the thickness of a size 4 yarn. It would turn out much smaller.
What is the difference between this stitch and a half double crochet?
With a half double crochet you will pull up a loop from the next stitch then yarn over and pull the first loop through the last three loops on the hook.
With the yarn over slip stitch you do not do the last yarn over. You pull a loop up from the next stitch then pull that same loop through the last two loops on the hook.
So the difference is that last yarn over.
Love this but why is your band so narrow? My 13 rows came out very wide!! 5-1/2 inches with an H hook.
It is probably just or tension difference. Make sure that you are working yarn over slip stitches and not half double crochet stitches. That would add more width. They are very similar stitches but not the same.
Yep!! That’s it… thank you so much!!

@@WindingRoadCrochet hmm ok ill try that out! Tysm for answering my question! :)
Why does hair band length decrease while adding more rows?
It should not decrease with adding more rows. I would count your stitches and make sure your stitch count is the same as the first row.
I have the same size yarn but I am missing a 5mm hook and only have a 4.25 mm or 5.25 mm hook so I will have to choose between the 2 lol
Yes. Do you tend to crochet loose or tight? I used to crochet very tight and I would lean towards the larger hook but it just depends on your tension.
@@WindingRoadCrochet explain the gauge part to me. Thank you
Your gauge is the number of stitches per a certain number of inches.
Hi I want to do the toddler size 97st how many stitches do I need to do till I make the hole for the bow thanks
What size did you make.
How many chains
I believe the pink was a small baby size and the grey was a large baby size. Chain counts: 1:00
How many did u do???
The grey is the toddler size I believe.
how can you change the color of the bow
i dont want a solid color
You would have to change colors while working the row. Since it is worked all as one piece it is easiest to make it just one color.
How many chains for 4year old child
The largest size I have is to CH 97 for a toddler size and the headband should be 18 inches in circumference and fit a 18-20 inch head. My head is 22 inches as an adult so I would try that size for a 4 year old.
I chained 67 for a 4 month old and it was a bit too tight/small
Did you check your gauge? Everyone crochets differently, some crochet tight and some crochet very loose. Make sure to adjust your hook size to meet the required gauge for the pattern.
Hook size?
Size H 5mm crochet hook. All materials needed at at 0:30
Mine came out so big
Did you check your gauge? You might need to go down a hook size.
Has anyone else had this problem? What am I doing wrong?
Have you completed the pattern? Part of the length (about 4-5 inches) are used for the bow and does not contribute to the final circumference. If you have taken that into consideration already then I would check your gauge.
The split stitch is so hard
the yarn over slip stitch takes a little getting used to. It is especially difficult if you have a tight tension, but it is lovely when you get it.
I'm trying to make a headband for a toddler and it says chain 97. There is no way this wouldn't even fit me
Make sure to check your gauge and remember that this is worked as all one piece, so some of that length is used for the bow.
Yes mine came out too big too
You do your half double crochet different.
I am doing a yarn over slip stitch and not a half double crochet. This stitch can also be called the Half double slip stitch.
I chained, 66 For myself, and it was too big
Did you check the gauge? Also did you finish the pattern or just work a few rows. You have to remember that the bow is part of that length and it will overlap and make the headband smaller.
Ok ty
