It's not a normal law in the sense that the federal government didn't hold debate and vote on it; it's just subordinate legislation under an existing law, so it can come into effect pretty fast. Transport Canada devises regulation as they see fit... but once drafted they do have to get it through a Department of Justice review... so yes, it was speedy, but maybe not unprecedented.
The rules are specifically for air shipments from certain countries, so it's a response to specific intelligence. The new method is not the usual "get it to Canada and then get it inspected and sorted out" thing. If you don't have a pretty long and well documented business relationship between shipper and receiver, your stuff doesn't even get on a plane.
This isn't enforcement of old rules, but an entirely new and much more stringent regulation than anything we've had before. They're taking this threat very seriously. It's disruptive in the extreme, very hostile.

Because of Joe Bidens' weak ass leadership is why this has happened. Yet, no one bats an eye on why creepy Joe has bombed Syria or sent troops to Samolia and other regions in the Middle East and parts of Africa. Im sick of wars that I did not vote for while I'm being forced to pay high prices on everything to fund these stupid wars. America first!!! Down with globalism

It's one thing to cry wolf, and there to be no wolf. It's another thing entirely if you call everyone a wolf (aka a fascist), and then expect them to take you seriously when you call someone else a wolf. Well, we're all apparently wolves according to you, so what's the problem, sheep?

@@justanghozzst8218 So your answer would be to pretend nothing happened? Don't you understand that fear and the apathy and inaction are exactly the response Russia is looking for. It's a sign for them that they can push even harder. Appeasement and "de-escalation" work exactly the opposite way you're assuming. With Russia, appeasement and inaction invite war, not the other way around.

Wes, c'mon. We already had a big provocation earlier in the war when a russian missile landed into Poland. Two polish civilians lost their lives. And that was POLAND! You know they would jump on the opportunity to get back at the russians. If that didn't cause a full-on conflict, then i don't know what will...
