It's tragic how most people have only heard "Loser". Beck has so many cool songs.
Yes it is. Sadly beck isnt a global megastar he has probably only sold about 10 million albums world wide. Thats still a lot but nothing compared to a popular musician.
Its still enough though for plenty of people to know how cool he is and spread the word :P
He is easily the best musician america has produced in the last 25 years.
Daniel Wood Only?
And that is the one Beck song I can't listen to lol
Fero
That "Mellow Gold" album is one of them "regulation" rock albums that any collection should have(if you still actually have albums/CD's LOL) . Kind of like the first Boston album or Led Zep 1 and 4, Back in Black, etc. It is up there with those.
I don't trust people who don't like Beck.
Can’t stop laughing! Brilliant comment!
This guy hits all genres of music and usually in the same song. Way underrated!
In the 90's, he definitely wasn't!
Genius stuff!
He's a Grammy winning artist. Nothing about Beck is underrated.
He's a genius of the stature of Bowie
Drop acid and you'll appreciate Beck much more! 👍
This dude is original AF.
John Fontenot Yes he is.
Not saying he isnt, but this song sampled Chameleon
by Herbie Hancock
he samples A LOT but he can do new & good things with it. i love sampling and really think you can find originality in taking something that exists and pushing it forward.
Ironic comment given the fact that this song is ripped off of Herbie Hancock
@@phantomprism7659 people also get paid for using their original beats .. if they are passed away it ( the money. )
goes to The Estate Of ...
If not that's poor management of any sort.. Really Eitherway not the first. You would hope the last...you do at least have to give it to Beck like any Artis he makes it his Own ..
Like you stated plenty of Artis did it and still are.
They put their own twist on samples. That doesn't mean it's not Original. Just a different vibe.
Does Kanye have a bear for a drummer? Didn't think so.
Two year old comment, i know, but the irony is Kanye was a bear for his first few albums
BronzedMocha the bear brought me here. I'm a big fan.
Or 8 year old dancers with plaits
That grizzly bear is JAMMING OUT
Neither does Beyonce
Can we please give Beck a Nobel Prize?
Yes,. :) EXCEPT: it would be beneath him. Too ... ordinary and predictable!' ;~)
he can have mine im done with it
For integrity... They should make that prize... He's the only entrant.
Think you have to drop bombs 💣 not beats 🥁🎶 to get one of those 🤣
@@WoodysAR Ah, well, we can't truly know. However, I think if his fans all got together and MADE him a trophy and then took it to him, as one huge mass - he might like that.
Beck's insane creativity and eclecticism distilled into one track. Talk rapping? Hip-hop beats? Melting pot of crazy fucking noises and country twangs? Ambient/psychedelic vocal backdrop and outro? Strange scary dancing child? Who thinks of this shit?
The information is by far his best venture
Exactly why I love Beck...so offbeat & original, and it works. David Bowie was another person like this. We are truly blessed to live at the same time these talented people did.
amen.
The bassline is from a Herbie Hancock track...
@@AdeshaNuts 🦎
so true both beck and bowie were musical shape shifters!
Indeed, this certainly sounded like Bowie.
Man, how I love this video! It's a pure trash, utter nonsense, bad acting, terrible hypnotic dancing and lame camera angles. It all works perfectly, like magic. One of my favourites from Beck.
I suppose that was the whole point of the video. To show that "this jam is real" because is not just another overproduced, overhyped song. That's probably why they had a little girl dancing "spontaneously" instead of a group of dancers following a choreography.
Yeah I love the music video. I just works somehow. It's kind-of hypnotic, actually (referring to the whole thing, not just the dancing).
amen
Eat about 2 grams of mushrooms 🍄 and watch the whole DVD. Life altering. Starts out with positive vibes then gets pretty dark.
Though it is his custom to make novating and fun videos, he must have made a real effort to look so "bad"
I love this song...Beck is just timeless and will always be brilliant and never gets old
This whole album is space gold .
This jam is real.
My beat is correct.
Like a man from a casket.
! ;)
(That's right)
I was sure the lyric was "fish jam is real"
The ending of this song is one of the greatest endings of all time, and if you disagree you're wrong.
Agreed 👍❣️
@Alexis Pequeno that’s right
his vocals are quite unique..............I actually didn't like the second part of this song for awhile but I listen to it a lot at work and it grows on you. My favorite song of his is "Bottle of Blues"....being a guitar player myself who dabbles in writing songs....I love that lyric "Its hard to want someone who doesn't want you". Beck is very talented. Alcohol B side used to be an old favorite of mine....he's quite nifty on the guitar as well.
yes, I also agree, I wait all the song for listening to the end
i was going to leave a trolling comment..but you're absolutely right
Beck has put together so many great albums.
One of the greatest basslines of all time.
Check out Herbie Hancock's Chameleon. This fact in no way detracts from Beck's musical genius.
@@fourierxfm I'm actually curious as to whether that's what we're actually hearing but rearranged on a sampler, or if it was played live on a moog with intentionally similar settings.
Major facts!!!
This jam IS real.
The thing that always gets me about this video is how the little girl starts moving at the beginning, and we get like twenty seconds in or something, and she's like, "Hmm....something's missing, what could it be....Oh yeah! Any sense of rhythm whatsoever!", and then she just suddenly HAS IT for the rest of the video like nothing happened. Almost like the footage isn't even correctly synchronized to the music, but only in that one part.
It's his niece. Lucia Ribisi. She's killing it! 😊
I don't have the IQ to process this music appropriately. But... I am feeling some refreshing breeze on my synapses.
A Hartley ......you should try the salmon....lol.
That sounds like something Beck would say.
Oh my hahaha
Ah yes, a stylish nod to Gen X pop culture. ❤
Like if Beck raps better than Kanye Pest!
Best instrumental kickdown ever. This Jam is Real..
I arrived on your comment on the exact moment! It is cool.
Herbie Hancock may have something to say about that. Check out Chameleon from '73.
10 years on, still sounds like it came out yesterday
agree
nope sorry, we all rode through that long ago with the Gorillaz
Will Good - I remember buying this album... er CD and remember a bunch of stickers packed in the booklet. Swear I put them all over my t.v.
Will Good right on 11
This album is wayyyyyy underrated.
A bear playing drums, ok I'm in!
I don't see why not
this jam is riel
Perhaps not the kind of bear some may be thinking of.
Beck, you deserved that grammy, and this is why
He got one for "Morning phase" which is a BEAUTIFUL album , but nowhere near the funk of this shit.. 😆
That little girl is all grown up. The inexorable march of time ...
Musical genius, Kanye West ain't fit to hold the awards this guy should receive every year just for being Beck. Remember listening to Loser before classes in college back in early 90s, he's come a helluva long way since then.
Kanye who
Sam Murray
MerkinMuffly yep. he,s a genious... he,s probably the most eclectic musican out there. he plays all styles...
Word...he can improvise a hit in 11 minutes. got more talent in his pinky finger than a lot of so called artists.
I was happily surprised when I saw the video and heard the song for E-pro especially. Yeah Beck's super talented.
This whole album is so addictive! I can't stop listening to it!!
Herbie hancock - Chameleon. What a sample man!! Amazing
This jam is real..
Love you , Beck...
That cello there... only Beck could do this
Beck's most underrated single I've discovered so far. This is just the sickest beat I've ever heard.
check Chameleon - Herbie Hancock, almost 15 minutes with this beat, and almost the same melody
The workout lady, the little girl, the drummer, and everything else in this video is perfect
Beck have always been incredibly underrated. I remember playing this song and album on repeat back in 2007 whilst I was travelling backwards and forwards on trains to university. It blew my little mind then and it still blows it now. I'd never heard anything like this album before and it still sounds fresh and totally different to anything else.
JennyLucy beauty that’s how he works best.. he is like Tom Waits, Radiohead, Eels, Björk and so on because they either is something underrated or only knows by music lovers who respect creativity and music itself then it’s can live.. the moment this becomes too popular it’s losing its magic.. just ask Rolling Stones after Exile On The Main Street..yeah.. exactly
Now that he's eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame its time that Beck gets in.
Damn straight.
Just wish The Information wasn't his last decent album. I love the old stuff. Fuckin w My Head, etc.
@Glenna Foreman you really should listen to Modern Guilt and Morning Phase again. They are fantastic, especially Morning Phase imo. The last two I couldn't enjoy much, but who knows maybe one day I will.
Elftzar I agree re: modern guilt. Morning phase is fine but lacks the creativity, lyrical strength and freshness sea change had.
"I tote my hopes like a juggernaut walks"... That is so sic.
On acid at the lake with 20 other people and not one of us had realized this album had looped around over and over for 8 hours lol
Turd Furgeson jar of flies also great to trip too. Or go og larks tongue in aspic
@Turd Fergeson Your name makes me so happy! ; D
this reminds me of the old school boom boxes with auto reverse. we used to play a cassette all night.
sounds fun, or some shrooms
For me, it was Mr Dobalina ... same scenario
beck for superbowl 🎉
This album got me through so many rough times in Iraq in 07, and through the rest of my time in the military. Last album I was actually able to buy from a brick and mortar music store too.
@@seancomrie4714 lol for me, it was about coming back to the combat outpost after a mission, putting on the headphones and imagining I was just home chilling. Little stuff like that makes all the difference some days. Beck was a reminder of home and good times. All the best to you too!!
Thanks for your service man, I was planning to go into the military myself but life stuff got in the way. My mom got be into Beck, would watch the music videos on a tube television with her when I was a kid. Still years later, no matter what mood I'm in, this song sounds good and is nostalgic.
I bet it did! I can relate to that...I had a traumatizing experience and Beck's Odelay did it for me. Thanks for your service!
This jam is REAL.
Im always a little jealous when I watch this video bc I wasn’t invited to be in it 🤣
His beats 'are correct'! & coordinated w/everything else, I can't even describe how good this is!
She’s doing jumping jacks ina new ways 🤸
2013 and this jam is still real.. that's right.
Beck meets Herbie Hancock meets Depeche Mode meets Radiohead meets Bowie. Love this song.
My god this shit is legendary
Alexa Baldwin troop right on man
Alexa Baldwin yeppp spell check
awesome gee gee i love that Girl
Utterly! :)
Amen!
My favorite aspect about beck is I genuinely don’t think there is a single person on the planet that could create something like this
If you ever have the pleasure of seeing Beck live, make sure it's a small venue. Pay whatever they want. His sound doesn't translate aswell in large places. Dudes one of a kind...amazing!
agreed!!!
I've seen him at MSG... for $25 minimum, they were practically giving away the seats! Would love to see an intimate show
I saw him in a stadium (Wien Arena) and it was incredible... Especially the opening song (The Golden Age), even better than the album version
Yes yes totally agree! Saw him Aug 14 at Ogden (Utah) Twilight, outdoor venue seats only maybe 3 or 4 thousand. He took a break from his tour with Phoenix to do an acoustic performance, was out of this world. Was hoping so much he'd play 'Blackbird Chain' from Morning Phase.... alas my lucky stars were aligned and he played just that. I cried, made me so happy. Beck my all-time favorite!!!
I've seen him do both , FLAWLESSLY
the jam session at the end is the funkiest thing i have ever heard 3.20 onwards and i have listened to a lot of music.
Still fresh af after all these years. So good!!
"Robots talking with a Southern accent" The first thing that comes to mind is Bender from Futurama hollering "Ya'll bite mah shiny metal ass!!" 🤣
I can literally play this song every time I listen to music, it’s such a good song for many reasons. The low fi video effects are what Euro-Rack video effect modules are producing now-a-days... so good
_Euro-Rack video effect modules_
exactly what i was thinking
Yes. Take me back 06- 09. The kind of music I'd wake up, get ready to and have my breakfast too. Giving my VH1's Jump start
Beck’s songs age like fine wine
Très fort, très très fort ....
Beck's music has skyrocketed in popularity since Grammy call out, hmm wonder why??
Beck = brilliance
Always said it; if Mozart ever came back he'd be playing with Beck.
mozart cant come back
mozart never left
Beck is the 21st century Elvis.
hey Beyonce, Beck already did a visual album
Wait what?
hahahahah ouch
Sonic Youth before that.
I believe INXS were the first
not in 2006 dumbshit
I love what Beck does with sounds.
His music has so many layers to it - just wonderful.
his wonderful music has many to layer it just so
Super facts.
Beck is a genius
So thankful for beck !!! Truly inspiring! The vibes the soul the sound truly one of a kind!!
I'm on the pace bus having a dance party all by myself right now...
R.I.P Jeff Beck
I know that guy playing the drums. He likes fresh salmon, right in the teeth.
Turner Rentz + That's my brother, he also directed this video, Beck loves his perception and besides; us Grizzlys' work cheap..later, salmon are flying today!
Hahaha!
few diners could bear such a grizzly eating habit and it would polarize the dinner party leading smaller groups to panda together
possibly the best bit of nusic abd video i havs witnessed in a very long time......still a little shocked at waht i just watched
The legendary Mr. James Gadson on drums... - I love!
which is odd, because Harvey Mason plays on The Information album and this is his groove from Herbie's Chameleon, the synth bass line here is almost identical yet no sample credit on the record... all very odd, probably use the "interpolation" defence.
The day I ate a heroic dose and discovered the dvd that came with this album on cd hidden under the tray of the jewel case changed me forever
Greatest song to listen to drunk/high. Nuff said
what is drunk high and how might one enter such a state
One of my favorites I love you Becky
Herbie Hancock-Chameleon... Anybody?
was thinking that today
+Peter Maes that synth bass it's totaly chameleon!
Yep, he sampled it.
+Peter Maes
Harvey Mason plays drums on this record. He is the person who plays on the original Headhunters' record as well.
I came here just to say that, haha and to listen to this awesome song
quite possibly the best music video I've ever seen. There is no drama, just chill. And funky. thumbs up.
you dare to casually dismiss this videos
i. lack of risibly-overcompensational narcissistic cinematography
ii. dearth of expensive jewelry
iii. absence of dancers executing synchronous moves that Bob Fosse first choreographed 60 years ago
this video is nothing more than heresy and nothing less than iconoclasm
i have never seen such a shameless case of an artist not making the exact same video that ten thousand other artists have made a hundred thousand times before
in the entire film i did not see one single person posturing and flexing in a pitiful attempt to represent himself as having an exponentially greater state of coolness than he could even recognize if he ever saw it
WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT FUCKING SONG!!!!
Pioneer , Grammy long over due.
thats one badass grizlly on drums lmao. this reminds me of the old devo or talking heads videos.
Everything is influenced by Devo
Talent is talent and this is it.
Mad Love fo this track
November 2023. I hear this tune for the first time and now I know I've wasted my life.
He's a genius.... .
Can't believe the diversity of styles Beck has.
the ending of this could go on and on
it does
I remember when beck was cutting edge. I liked that guy.
I LOVE THIS SONG, one by one I'll knock you OUT...this jam is real
Coolest Beck song, for far
The full dvd that comes with the album is just nuts hahaha.
is so cool how this dude songs all sound different.... true genius!!!
The Music at 3:16 is so great. The whole damn song should be that.
Agreed! From there to the end of the song is the funkiest trippiest music i have heard in my entire life and i have listened to a lot of music!
Thanks D, no thanks E
Yeah, where is it from?
I know, right! Put that on a continuous loop and I'd listen to it all day. Genius. Cellos. Background vocals. Beck melds and fuses sounds together so masterfully.
Totally. A total trip this song and gets even better from 3.16 onwards. One of Beck's best.
Beautifully layered, crisp vocals strange video amazing sampling. Masterpiece
"Get a tow truck, it's after dark... dance floor's full, but everybody's double parked"
Never change, Beck.
I mean... continue to constantly change and evolve as you feel the need... which, for yourself, is kinda "never changing". 😊
Great artist.
Haven't heard it this guy before, impression is very good. Sound is great, unique, inspiring, and catchy. Wish I'd found him earlier
That's awesome!
Check out Mellow Gold and Odelay.
he's like a national treasure in america
Beck has always been before his time. Welcome to the fan club! ha✌
@@jalcobo I love those songs how about the song Girl? So awesome .
Beck always comes up with such intriguing and wonderful sounds!
I feel like this song could cause me to fail a drug test simply by viewing it
what 'feel like'
this song got me charged with three federal felony crimes: possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (21 U.S. Code § 812 (c)); conspiracy to distribute (21 U.S. Code § 846); and intent to deliver (21 U.S. Code § 841)
im glad it did not happen
any more soon
by the time i got arrested
my brain was on the moon
they say _you are under arrest_
i say _what does that mean_
they say _you on your way to jail_
i say _im on apollo 18_
Bravo
Yeah. This is the stuff to listen at...... 2:00 in the morning!!!!!!😎
Real music made by real people... :)
what about electric music made for the summer people?
This is the band I want to be in ! I mean that's a big ass, bad ass grizzly bear on the drums! what - check it - that is all I need man!
I swear Beck does Mushrooms...This is weirdly genius.
:) Have to spend some real time there,. on that,.. 'PLANE' of existence ;) to express it so well!
I need to know which ones... ;-)
Some folks are creative without the need for aid
@420 Friendly You're in the same boat as him homie. Heed your own advice.
@@LOCKEYJ Zappa is the best example of this.
I love this song. Beck is a really good singer and beautiful man
Beck is very difficult to describe he has created a wide variety of music. Personally i believe he was the best musician to emerge from the 1990s. This particular song is quite hard to categorize but i will try jazz funk hiphop!
@dispicablenerd
That's a great description. Give a listen to Headhunters, a group w Herbie Hancock at the helm, and tell me what you think. Hope you're in good health after all these years! 4:49 4:49
This song is that 70's groove in my head. 👍🏾😎
Herbie Hancock - Chameleon
hahaha same
