Beck is one of the most talented musicians. Ever. He goes into every corner, dusts things off, and brings them out into the light and re-introduces us to sounds, sights and motions we forgot about for awhile. He’s a great, great musician but also a great music historian and visual artist. Long may he reign.

Want to live like that? Go low information (quit watching the news) and low tech (no smart phone, no internet, no social media, buy magazines). Buy a watch. Only shop the local stores. You'll be the Amish living among the modern folks. Not a bad life though. The 1980s and 1990s were good to me after high school. High school sucked.

Then recreated this rhythm and made music!!! What was that guy's name, Adam or something, iono, f it, blame the sun.

I'm glad the Grammy's aren't the VMAs... Daft punk, arcade fire would never win album of the year at the VMAs. Kanye storming the stage was a joke. Look, Beyonce has accomplished a lot. Beck has been a solo act for the better part of three decades and writes all his stuff...Beyonce has needed 4 vocalists, countless songwriters and a marriage to one of the greatest rappers ever to enjoy moderate success. I'll take beck any day, thank you.

"That was a good drum break....." As with everything Beck there are always open ends and zero relevancy. It's actually therapeutic for me because I feel like I'm flushing all the junk out of my brain and it's void of thought (and refreshed) at the end of each of his videos.
I always laughed at the segment of Beck looking befuddled during the middle hook where his two alter egos morph out of him. He looks genuinely perplexed with this 'what was I doing here?' expression.

Gen X? If you grew up in the nineties, you're Gen Y. I was born in '86, I'm Gen Y and I grew up in the nineties. Gen X ended in like 1980. Gen Y is early 80's to late 90's. I suppose you can be a nineties kid and be a Gen X'er if you were born right on the cusp (early 80's). I just normally consider nineties kids to be Gen Y. Gen X'ers grew up in the 70's and 80's.

I can't believe I've never heard of Beck until after he released Morning Phase, and he's been around longer than I've been alive! (I'm 19). What Kanye did at the Grammys certainly wasn't right, and trust me, I'm a HUGE Kanye stan, but I'll go as far as to say that what he said about art wasn't true. Beck certainly deserved that award for the amount of work he puts into his albums. One guy doing virtually everything. Production, instrumentation, songwriting, mixing, everything. And I love Beyonce as well, but she has tons of songwriters, tons of producers, back-up singers, the works. That doesn't make her any less of a great artist, nor does it make Kanye any less of a great artist. He's a very decent MC, and an INCREDIBLE producer. He's just very opinionated, for better or worse.

@ 1:20 is one of the finest musical equivalents to a Family Guy cutaway gag. I remember when this first came on MTV and I'm glad to see who continues to discover and appreciate it in the years since. The crispy feedback noise and sonic collage all add to the eclecticism!

I was 11 going on 12 when "Loser" came out and it was the first song I discovered lyrically "in tune" w/my "outside-the-box" brain & my going on 35yr strong rhyming obsession. More specifically the "rhyming of words that don't typically have any business even being in the same sentence together; let alone making up song lyrics meant to speak to people...🫠😬😆🤷
Tl;Dr: Beck Rules and to this day is prob the only artist I have ever been able to relate to from a "I'm nuts too” standpoint. Now, go shave your face with some mace in the dark.
