There are a slew of versions of this song on TH-cam, but I really love this one for how it cleaves to the raw simplicity and sincerity with which I must imagine the song was originally performed. These other versions have a huge range of inventive instrumental and even vocal embellishments, but to me, they too often veer into the theatrical and incohesive. This version proves my suspicion that by and large, any ornamentation of this beautiful song is really gilding the lily.

So LIVE, and the 'hang time' on that reverb! Fully agree. Pretty sure any group singing there would produce sounds they'd not heard before. We used to sing in a fairly live four floor large spiral staircase 'room' to do little 'pop up' mini concerts at church and it was very live, but junk compared to this acoustic environment.
Absolutely beautiful. I listened to this after hearing it sung by The King's Singers, who seemed to rush through it and add strange sounding "non-period" chords in an effort to be "artsy". The rendition we are listening to here is spot on. Another nice version is by Anuna.

The piece is not medieval. So if they do use proper medieval harmony its not accurate, but fair dues to them for being so radical.
