Brandon Victor Dixon has officially tied with Carl Anderson as the best Judas!! He made his own while honoring the original so well. And that ROCK SCREAM!!!! If John Legend couldn’t do it at least he could!! Truly the Superstar of the whole show!
This production touched me deeply, but the original Broadway production and cast recording is what made this play an iconic masterpiece. This performance by Dixon is the only time I've ever seen anyone match (or surpass) the original, and Sara Bareilles (SP?) did a good job with Mary Magdalene's parts. John Legend gets props for TRYING to mimic Ian Gillian's vocals, but he failed. Neely and Anderson were also very, very good in the original movie. I do believe that Andrew Lloyd Weber and Timothy Rice were inspired to write this; it brings tears to my eyes every single time.
I remember i decided to watch this when it came out as a joke I knew nothing about jcs besides it was a rock opera about Jesus but then i was blown away by it.
Ironically enough, I first heard this song at a youth church event years before I ever knew the musical existed, let alone seen it in person. But now that I’m an adult and I’ve had time to see it in person multiple times and understand the context of this song, it’s surprising and a bit funny how they didn’t really understand the meaning or gravity of this song when they performed this song for a bunch of 8 years olds. It’s not necessarily meant to be a moment of praise and being in awe of what Jesus had done up until his crucifixion, as much as it is a grandiose moment ofJudas’s spirit looking on from wherever the hell he is (pun partially intended), and sarcastically saying “Well, that all worked out just fine, didn’t it?”
Yeah but there’s a nod to the resurrection at the end as well…. But I agree that the point of this song in particular and the theme of the show is one of question. ALW and TR have also said this song is also sort of an author insert revealing their true feelings.
I believe Judas isn't in hell, since he fulfilled his role in God's plan But also kind of weird for them not to get the point since the lyrics are pretty explicit
It's more of a perspective of someone from the Modern Day, Reference to Mass Communations and other Religious Figures like Buddha (Older than Christianity) and Mohammed (Younger than Christianity). Wondering in a confused manner what did Jesus meant, Was he lying? Was he just insane? Or is he really God
The whole description of the show is wrong??? Or at least the cast is. And the date it’s from... This is Brandon Dixon as Judas. John Legend was Jesus. Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene. And Alice Cooper as King Herod. It aired in 2018 in April on NBC. I wish I still had the DVR it was saved on because it was amazing to watch.
If AC ever reads , b makin said she was mother of birth , unsure through , no dna. Thank you for doing this with dress rehearsals and rehearsals . This is a message that needs to go on. Sincerely , Beth Franklin
He was so miscast- couldn’t act and didn’t have the vocal range or power for any of the songs. It was just poor. The Jesus I’ve just watched in the U.K. cast was 100x better!
I have seen many versions, starting with Broadway in the 70's. This Judas is among the best... who is he, anyway? I wish I could see the whole show. Who plays Jesus in this one?
Love this song alot. The show was awesome. Dancing was good. Love when Brandon Dixon stole the show with this song alot. The costumes on the cast was good.
I absolutely agree. This was the first version I saw and I thought no one could ever do better then Brandon but then I found Tim’s version and it blew me away. I still appreciate this one though
Murry Head, from the original recording was the best Judas and Ian Gillian from Deep Purple, who played Jesus on the original recording was incredible. This is my opinion of course, but if you've never heard the original, you definitely should give it a try.
i'm surprised Christians haven't BASHED this for being over the top. i am a christian and found no problem with it. i know some may say retelling the bible in a broadway way would be blasphemy but i thought it was well put together
@KrystalHarwood-ty7rk They did but it was the exception, Mainstream Christians and the High Churches (Orthodox and Catholic) even praised the production since they know it's a secular project and that Christians who watched the Play didn't really lapsed but strengthen their faith in many cases like the song is like by many Christians because christians can fill in the blanks during the part of "What did you Sacrifice?" though ironically the biggest backslash was from the Jewish community
I was 16 years old, A runaway from the the state of Oregon from Foster care in 1973, dancing in Laurelhurst Park in Portland Oregon, dancing to this music singing with my girlfriend, I remember...
This is kind of weird. You show Brandon Victor Dixon’s performance, but the rest of the description is about a completely different performance? This is still the best JCS, though.
I remember thinking the same when I was watching it back in 2018. Brandon Victor Dixon blew him out of the water. He did not only out performed him, but he also out sang him.
He was simply miscast. He really is a phenomenal performer and artist, his voice just isn’t up for the material and that’s not even his fault. This show is HARD and considering his limitations, he gave it his all and I respect that
could someone point me to unedited footage of tim minchin doing this? i watched his version on this channel but there were so many cuts and the autotune on his singing unfortunately which just killed it dead for me, i prefer this a thousand times over because they actually let the work of the cast and crew speak for itself instead of trying to dazzle us out of our minds with unrelenting flash. i thought i just didn't like this musical after trying to watch the minchin but now i'm like o this is pretty great even if webber is not my fave
Good question. It is a 2018 TV performance. It is also the worst, most incorrect description of this video. The title is correct. The Weber/Rice part is correct. OK, I am sorry but that is all. Oh, my irritation is right, too.😠
Dixon rocked this.... Alice Cooper as Herod was just great. Sarah Barrallis was Brilliant in this.... John Legend was NOT the best choice for this. As a matter of fact, I think he is rather overrated. Brandon Victor Dixon was absolutely amazing.
The worst Judas and Jesus I've ever seen. And it's not about whom I saw first, I like a lot of different Judases. But these two just don't seem to understand the characters at all. Couldn't finish this version.
Brandon Victor Dixon was so amazing as the rest of cast but I had never seen him before and what a voice !!!!
I know we are appreciating Brandon Victor Dixon’s singing but can we also appreciate how he’s just effortlessly schmoothing on stage
I originally watched this for John Legend, now I'm not even a big fan of John Legend but I absolutely fell in love with Brandon Victor Dixon ❤️
Brandon is AMAZING!
DID YOU KNOW... That film received the stamp of approval from the POPE!!
Same here. Brandon brought his A-game 🙌🏽
Brandon and Alice Cooper nailed it. Everyone else....ehhh
In Legend’s defense…he was sick for this live performance
Brandon Victor Dixon was so fucking amazing. I forgot John Legend was involved.
Brandon Victor Dixon has officially tied with Carl Anderson as the best Judas!! He made his own while honoring the original so well. And that ROCK SCREAM!!!! If John Legend couldn’t do it at least he could!! Truly the Superstar of the whole show!
I think Tim minchin had the best Judas
@@steaminghotbelgianwaffles Tim is certainly up there
Karl Anderson just inches it for me.
Tim Minchin and Colmn Wilkonson are the best ever.
Those background singers tho 😍
Only musical I would ever go and see, I love this since it came out, a long long time ago. Thank you Jesus amen
Carl Anderson will always be the legend for this. ❤️ But Victor did do an amazing job! ❤️
I wish nbc would show it again, or let it stream on apple.
I think you can find on Peacock 🦚
This version of Jesus Christ superstar and the one with ted Neely are both amazing
I remember when I first saw Jesus Christ Superstar. It was EPIC!! Still sends chills down my spine and THAT is a good thing.
Amazing that it was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s first musical
I think I reached enlightenment during that screaming high note! 🥹

I am absolutely obsessed with this!
Yes. Me too
WOW! They sure brought this song alive. As said, this was stunning.
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!!
I find something amazing in all the renditions of this musical.
Just saw the Seoul production so this is a nice throwback. The Seoul cast were phenomenal 👍
One of the BEST Broadway plays in modern times...amazing....

@@HoorayBagels Nope. Peter denied Jesus three times and repented. Judas had a chance to repent too but chose to kill himself instead.

Honestly never thought I'd ever see someone measure up to Drew Sarich for Judas screams. Brandon said I see you, and I'll raise you an A5. 🤩
Yes someone who gets it. Although Drew is still 🐐
Teeeeeelllll....ellll..elllll .......mmmeee.... just awesome
Carl Anderson set the standard with his electrifying performance of this song.
It is a hard act to follow
Solid production. Perhaps the best rendition I've seen. (Recommendations welcome)
Jey, man! Carl Anderson is smiling to you from the heaven. It's so cool! Congrats from a JCS fan of Hungary!
Upstager! Fantastic performance 💫

It's not wrong, it's just referencing the 2012 version. All the information they're giving is correct, just from a different show for some reason.
3:41 I have an unhealthy obsession with this bit.
And then when the brass hits in the background. Goosebumps every time.

Ben Forster it says

John Legend

Judas is Brian Victor Dixon. Jesus is John Legend.
Carl Anderson would be proud of this performance. Stellar!
Wow he's amazing as Judas ❤
Hey TheShowsMustGoOn, when are you going to upload Jesus Christ Superstar LIVE!? Please make it be on Good Friday.
Love this song alot. The show was awesome. Dancing was good. Love when Brandon Dixon stole the show with this song alot. The costumes on the cast was good.
Great job!
Awesome!
Tim Minchin for me I'm afraid. Amazing performance every time

John English in the 1973 australian crew is freaking amazing also. Tim Minchin nails it
With all due respect, you and the several others that agree, must be respectfully smoking crack. Again, this is respectfully.
Well Down, BVD!!
one of my favorite judases besides carl Anderson!!
Brandon stole the show!!!! He was so much better than Legend! I loved him in this role!!!
Your description, for the most part, seems to be describing a different production of the musical.
Excelente
the best cast Judas
Did the full show go live on the 15th of Jan? I don't see where to view it at this point...
I’d love to see the full version
It's available on DVD
I know it's an Easter thing, but every year it's on TV at Christmas. Weird or what.
Murry Head, from the original recording was the best Judas and Ian Gillian from Deep Purple, who played Jesus on the original recording was incredible. This is my opinion of course, but if you've never heard the original, you definitely should give it a try.
Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson are my favorites

BVD should be the new star of Holywood, why are they not giving him new roles?
The only man who can hold a candle to Carl Anderson ❤
Carl Anderson and Brandon Victor Dixon are the greatest Judas's imho.
I mean he is great but I got spoiled on the gone but never forgotten Carl Anderson in the 73 movie version. Long live the King🎉❤

P.S. i dont think the whole cast did not see what was happening to Jesus Christ. John legend play the role so good.

This is still the best JCS, though.
This is still the best version of Superstar that I've ever heard. Sorry Carl.
Actor Vincent Tong could play Judas in an audio production of Superstar.
Blessings from Taiwan
Lol. They keep tagging him as Tim Minchin.
Right, this is like the 3rd video of him tagged as Tim Minchin. You’d think they’d notice after the first couple lol
Nice Judas! I do prefer a bit bigger voice than his, but he carries it off very well.
DAM HE IS HOT - JUDAS
The singer who played Judas really carried the show imo
It’s too bad John Legend was a bit underwhelming in this performance

John just doesn't have the voice for it

Judas genuinely asking Jesus >>>>> Judas taunting Jesus.
Agreed, they’re still good friends in JCS even after all that happened
Weird to pick this song for World Religion Day considering this is like the most anti-religion song in an already very anti-religion show.
This young man did a amazing job however, NO ONE mad e an entrance to this dong like Carl Anderson!! Love you Carl and RIP.
Carl Anderson still the best
It needs horris Morris and boris and The cast of sesame street
This Judas caused a whole new sexual awakening in me that I fear would only spread if I took it to confessional.

Nella canzone vengono citati Buddha e Maometto (translate italian)

Hmm thats no Tim Minchin. Not the strongst versions of Judas
Nor was this recorded in the West End.. And World Religion Day was last weekend. So 0/3, par for this channel.
Agreed. He has a nice voice, but it just isn't strong enough for Judas, imo. Would rather hear this guy sing Jesus... think he'd tear it up
Hmmmm... Idk fellas, this looks pretty stupid from here 🤷🏻♂️
It’s a crime against humanity that John Legend won the Emmy instead of BVD.
he was one of the executive producers, executive producers get the award when a show is named best show
When lgbt people dance and dress like this it’s inappropriate, but when Christians do it, it’s acceptable 🙂
to be fair i think most of the people in this video are probably lgbt+
who says they are Christians?
I mean he’s portraying Judas Iscariot so take that as you will
Nice, but give me Carl Anderson any day, and I've been listening to it for almost 50 years. You'd think they'd have taken away my atheist card by now.

Which is how Herod was written on the original record.
