- Ayup folks! Slightly different episode, this one!
I am also filming on my phone, so hopefully the quality is ok!
In March, for what would have been my sisters 50th birthday, me and my brother are cycling 200 miles for charity, so I need to get some miles under my belt.
I am joined by Phil, Nikita, and we even have Steve on loan from @LeiceExplore for the day.
We start the ride at Ashbourne on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border and follow the 1899 London & North Western Railway north as far as Parsley Hay, where we jump onto the 1830 Cromford & High Peak Railway, and take that line all the way down to Middleton Top, on the outskirts of Wirksworth.
We then cycle the same route back, hitting the 50 mile marker just as we pass through Ashbourne Tunnel on the return leg.
Loads of railway remains and beautiful scenery en route.
Also, a massive thank you to Steve for allowing me to use some of his wonderful drone footage of the Cromford and High Peak Railway, during this film.
I hope you enjoy the ride!

This was a really good journey and adventure through the historic sites in Derbyshire 🙂 It was such a beautiful views and scenery too. Thank you for this wonderful video Gareth 🙏💯
Awesome video as always ❤❤
Definitely a different trip on the bikes, I was out of breath the whole ride.. I'm always amazed how excited you guys get when you find some old original rains embedded in the trail. On a side note it would be interesting if there are similar railroad routes in the eastern and midwest of the US sharing some similar history of removal and neglect.
Wow, well done guys... looked like you all had fun. The video was fine.
Aww, that looked fun! Great to see Steve joining you all too. Thanks for sharing!
He's a good lad, Steve is.
An enjoyable ride - appreciate you highlighting some of the historical and heritage treasures along our stunning ancient railway lines
Thanks mate. It's wonderful up there. Only scraped the surface too!
Hayup Gareth absolutely bloomin brilliant that proper joyous you know got a real positive energy to it!
Ashbourne tunnel get in! not seen it since 1984/6 an twice too,
You’re definitely makeing tracks with the Walk! it’s like it embodies wellness an Freedom movement an fitness. there’s an undeniable camaraderie which is grand to see.
I was thinking that you can get tri bars them low down racer style exstensions for when cycling in the prone position, thing is they attach to any 25.4 or 1 inch or 22-2 handlebars so they may enable you to attach an alloy bar to hold your phone or camera, as one handed cycling is a tad sketchy.
I did a walk earlier today so I’m on it.
Cheers
After meeting you at Parsley Hay, my mate Ryan now wants to do the 50 miler... as a try-bike! Sod the walking 🙄 I can feel the soreness already, so thanks for that Gareth and team! 😂
That's too funny! 😂
Its a great route!
What a fabulous ride! Did you get your pint Gareth?
The ‘cycle’ instead of the ‘walk’ this time :)
Nice one Gaz. Great transfer deadline day loan move for Steve to haha.
Got him quiet cheap, as well !
It reminded me of when you'd see an episode of Family Guy back in the day, when an American Dad character would be in an episode! (Or Simpsons /Futurama!) Same, for when Phil was in a Leicexplore episode the other week. Adds to the fun! Thanks guys!
