It was very important for Ruby to have that vision, to see that her own mother wasn't perfect but flawed, made mistakes and had questionable judgement.
16:53 I don't know if I got that right, but IIRC, these were the last lines Billy Kametz were able to record before passing away in 2022.....and if this is true, it hurts double..... 21:00 I don't know how, but Miles' voice acting as "adult" Jaune is killing it..... this one liner makes me tear up everytime I hear it
I think my favorite part of this episode is bringing back two separate songs from volume 1. Ruby getting Red Like Roses part 3 when she choses herself, and my favorite a slow rendition of This Will Be the Day as the last notes before the credits.
Raven's semblance doesn't have to have a familial target, just someone she has a 'bond' with. Yang said she had portals for Tai, Qrow, and Yang herself, but that's because those are the only ones Tai was aware of to tell her - we know she at least had a portal for Vernal as well, back in Volume 5. Who knows who else she could have 'bonded' with?
@@robertpresley1503 I'm talking about the one she made right before the battle for Haven started. She was standing in front of Qrow and the others, and created a portal to Vernal that allowed her and Cinder's group to step through. I'm not saying THIS portal was to Vernal, I'm just using it as an example to show that Raven has portals to more people than the ones Tai told Yang about.
Just as an addendum to the Summer and Raven scene, do you recall in the vol 5 finale when Yang walked past Raven and shoulder checked her, she stopped protesting angrily, started to cry and said "I'm sorry" before running away That wasn't just to Yang now that we have this scene, she was remembering this moment, this exact moment before things went terribly wrong
12:51 the way Ruby reaches out for the falling Crescent Rose parallels the way Oscar reached out for Ozpin's cane when he was falling through the lower levels of Atlas.....each embracing their destinies.
I know some people say Ruby's trauma was fixed too quickly but I really think she wasn't as broken as people think. She literally just needed time to vent but it was literally nonstop from the end of volume 7 until she finally snapped. The others were also dealing with alot (not as much as Ruby) and thats why they didn't really stop to comfort her but if they had found some time to just as Jaune said lick their wounds they probably would have given Ruby the assurance she needed. Heck Weiss's speech about failure not meaning your worthless probably would have done the trick.
Ruby sent a message out to the world telling them that they need to unify in order to fight against Salem. Ozpin always said that humanity would panic and implode. However when they leave the portal in Vacuo you can see airships in the style of all of the kingdoms. Ruby did what Ozpin failed to do, and if you remember the brother's ultimatum was that when they return if humanity is still divided then they would destroy everyone and start over. If humanity showed that it could unify and become good then the gods would return magic and come and live back on Remnant. Ruby thought she had been the cause of Atlas being destroyed however she may have taken the first step towards returning the gods and magic. Not that id want those particular gods personally.
15:41, there's a chance they ALL could come back. If Noes Walkers are only PHYSICALLY copies, and don't posses the ability to completely erase someone from existence, then all that happened was him being ripped to pieces. And since an Afterian CANT die...
The Cat was tragically flawed/cursed....and it was the Brothers' fault....they jaunted off to go make Remnant and do other stuff, never bothering to check and see if the Cat was okay.
10:44, I'm VERY sure those scimitars were Cinders. In the flashbacks with Emerald, I think it showed her with those crossed her lower back, with her bow above them.
I'm not sure if the Brothers' "second form" (ie when they start looking like dragons, and not just goat & deer) is just their growing up or a sign that they already ascended once - given we only see them like that once the blacksmith tells us that they "grew ambitious" and wanted "to do more". In any case, given how we saw them behave on Remnant, they definitely could use a(nother) ascension / Tree Therapy session.
Agreed. The fact that they can't change, adapt, or possibly learn to think a different way without ascension actually explains a lot about their behavior.
Raven probably also has the ability to portal back to the members of the Branwen Tribe, given she explicitly refers to them as 'family'. My guess is that whatever mission Raven & Summer set out on, they did it from wherever the tribe was held up in Anima / Mistral at the time. But yeah, I knew you'd love how this all finished off!
I have to wonder now...Raven knew (and was supposedly close to) the Spring Maiden before she inherited the powers. I feel like, outside of Qrow, that's the only other person that would make sense for her to portal to.
8:56, CHICKEN $#!T!!! He couldn't get out of there fast enough!!! And he wanted Ruby!? If he tried hold that much pain and stress inside as she does his fuzzy head would EXPLODE!!!
27:32, here, they were creating whole communities. Making the I habitats to fit their environments. Problem is, add one extra factor, and EVERYTHING is thrown out of wack! That's why the Jabberwok wanders from Acre to Acre, never settling in one place, or it would drive the entire Ecosystem to EXTINCTION!
It has to be a time-skip of several months at least.....they somehow rescued Amity from falling into the sea (probably from ships scrambled from Argus Base)...then navigated it to Vacuo (and it doesn't exactly move fast, either)....plus if you look at all the ships in the air, they're airships from EVERY kingdom....Atlas, Vale, Mistral and Vacuo. In the air over Shade Academy.
Yes, the crossover looks dumb, and yet I enjoyed it and look forward to part 2. An animatic of the proposed reunion in Vacuo was not produced for this volume, but they showed it at RTX and it is on TH-cam.
I agree with people who say Ruby's arc was over too quickly, Volume 9 could've used 2-4 more Episodes. That being said, this Volume won't be the last time Ruby's mental health has a lapse, she's not 100% and most likely never will be again.
I agree she probably won't be the same as she was. She's (and the others) learning that life isn't always gonna have a happy ending or sometimes there is no answer that doesn't involve pain or loss, but I don't think she'll ever hit as low as she did here again. She's seeing firsthand her choices are making differences for the better. Inspiring Little to become Somewhat and basically being a hero to the Ever After, the fact her message did inspire people to come together, plus now that the others have learned this lesson they'll be there to give her emotional support sooner.
4:44, your right. My theory is she has a portal to SOMEONE Qrow and everybody else doesn't know about. But then, WHO, and if she was going after Salem, who could get that close to her with all her pets lurking around?
This is an interesting theory. It's certainly possible Salem had a mole that agreed to help. But I doubt they would go after Salem directly, and by themselves. I'm looking forward to getting more pieces to this puzzle.
Its floating around youtube but the RTX 2023 did actually have a storyboard of what was supposed to be the end of Volume 9 but got pushed to be the start of Volume 10 if it ever happens.
One theory I've run across about Raven's portal I've seen is that she's able to link to a person she's got a bond with, then maintain a link back to wherever she was. Take that and add in Raven essentially being a scout for Oz, I'd imagine it could've linked to somewhere close to Salem to do a direct assault on her. Admittedly its just a theory but does fit. I know that its obviously Summer speaking about loving Ruby & Yang just the way they are, but I do love the framing in it having the voice come from Crescent Rose; as if CR itself is reaching out to Ruby. I love how the Tree & Blacksmith are basically a cosmic counselor and the entire "soulspace" design is just fantastic. The bit about the cat really makes me feel for them, not in blaming Alyx; but in not being able to be repaired. Also in that same lore drop, the Blacksmith refers to worlds, plural, so that blows open the potential of an entire multi or omniverse (depending on how complex one wants to take it). On top of that really adding to the d-bag-ness of the brothers cause instead of the reincarnation system that Ever After has, they chose to implement death as a thing in their worlds. I can't wait for the soundtrack dropping this week (the 28th), all the songs are so good.
I love the fact that Team RWBY and Jaune basically just met God- since the Blacksmith is the Tree's avatar and the Tree created The Brothers, the Tree is basically God, and they are pretty chill about it lol
I read somewhere Roman's semblance was planned first the same Fiona has the "portal hands" - quite handy for a thief, but they decided, he is without semblance to show that he can be a formidable opponent without one.
We only know Raven's bonds from outside sources, so there can be more, secret ones we don't know of. I refuse to believe Qrow knows what happened to Summer (unless he blames himself for her death and is too ashamed to talk about it, which would explain his alcoholism), He would know, they need closure and deny them even out of shame feels out of character from him. But I can be wrong of course. (Some small part of me still thinks Qrow could be Ruby's real dad, which CRWBY denied at some point in the past)
Also, if you have not already please do a reaction to the RTX Volume 9 epilogue that had to be cut, its so nice and gives a lot of direction for the start of Volume 10 when it eventually happens.

And the ending shot implies that Ruby's message worked and the militaries of Remnant have all gathered at Vacuo to unite against Salem.

It's true, she could have more people she's 'bonded' with. Perhaps the Spring Maiden died on the same mission.
Did she have one for Vernal? Or did she use the one for Qrow because he was with everyone?
@@robertpresley1503 According to the RWBY Wiki, she did have one for Vernal, but I don't think Vernal was a part of the picture at that time.

29:15, that was the Cats job. But, who tells the Repairman to be repaired?
Exactly!
The person who Raven portalted to could have been the Spring Maiden before whatever happened to her, happened.
I wondered about that too.
The Tree is like the og Mother god, and the gods of Light and Darkness are like her 2 sons. 😂
Yes! I love the symbolism there. Very reminiscent of many creation myths.
