SharePoint list - is a list of (text) data. SharePoint library - is a list of documents; you make it so simple and so clear to understand. Thanks a lot! :)
Double Thumbs up. No, QUADRUPLE. Thanks so much! You always explain things in a way that puts the conclusion right up front. It helps me decide which feature will suit my work projects best.
Thank you, Anialisa, for such a positive comment! Happy to hear that my blogs and videos help you to make the right decisions. Again, sincerely appreciate your feedback - you made my day!
Hi Greg: Another great video. Thank you so much. One suggestion might be to explain the two views, Client Docs (Folders) and Client Docs (Metadata), shown in Quick Launch of your video. As memory serves me, you can have files in multiple folders but display them all together in a flat view. Not sure how, though.
Thanks, George for the feedback. These are not 2 different views. In my case - these are 2 different libraries. I did not explain them because they are not relevant to this video. I explain flat view of a library (folderless) in this video: th-cam.com/video/RDAHack9HTA/w-d-xo.html
Another Great video. Thank you. How to manage document library for large numbers of files like 1 million files and avoid List View threshold. I don't know if there file management in share point instead of creating multiple folders in the site contents.
Thanks. You should never put s many files into a single document library: sharepointmaven.com/how-to-deal-with-large-document-libraries-in-sharepoint-online/
so lists is basically an excel spreadsheet where we store items instead of storing files like in library and also libraries have document management functionality.
Hi Greg! Would u please explain how to set up a column in Lists with current date? I mean so that a date would change day by day, showing current date, not only at the moment of creation of a record. I want to use it to count days left to deadline, but did not manage to find it in Support... thanks!
Hi Greg, is it possible to use a list in 2 different sites? I would like to display the data items. For example, I would like to use the existing list app in my parent page to display the data to a subsite.
Hi Greg, thanks for sharing this. I see you use folders in your Documents library at 3:22. I read a blog from you from a few years ago about not using folders, using metadata instead. What is your current stance on this? Thanks again, Sean.
Thanks for being my loyal blog follower. Metadata vs Folders depends on the use case. Both have a reason to exist/be used. Suggest you check out this post: sharepointmaven.com/does-metadata-still-make-sense-in-sharepoint-online/
Hello Sir, may i ask how would I restrict attachments when uploading a certain file in the list. I would only want to allow pdf, xls and docs. Thank you sir
To request a service in the organization that I work, I have to fill a form and attatch a few documents like blueprints, documents and etc... In this case, should I use Share Point List ou Library?
When I go to add an app, I get very limited options compared to the video. I only get [Document Library, Calendar, Custom List, Import Spreadsheet, Site Mailbox]. Is this a licencing issue?
@@SharePointMaven yes, that I saw just after in one of the other tutorials you made. Sadly my organisation is still working on an older version of sharepoint, so I won't be able to use everything you talk about.. yet!

You can use Calculated column or Power Automate for this
Hi Greg,
is it possible to use a list in 2 different sites? I would like to display the data items. For example, I would like to use the existing list app in my parent page to display the data to a subsite.
No, not possible

No, you cannot restrict by file type
Super helpful. Thank you!

Neither. Use MS Forms: sharepointmaven.com/what-is-microsoft-forms/
Hi, i would just like to ask. Why do i need a list everytime i create a new workflow?
You don't. It depends on what you are trying to create with workflow.
When I go to add an app, I get very limited options compared to the video. I only get [Document Library, Calendar, Custom List, Import Spreadsheet, Site Mailbox]. Is this a licencing issue?
No, it depends on the site template you chose. Some site templates have limited # of web parts available
If the sharepoint site is deleted. Will the firm lost all the documents?
It goes to Recycle Bin first - you can still restore it from there within 93 days
Hello Sir, Is it possible to convert share point list data in to PPT and how?
No, it is not possible
Hi , if I want to become a sharepoint administrator are there specific things I need to learn about sharepoint?
Yes, there is a lot to learn about security, site management, etc.
Cool, but why would you not simply link from the list to the document, and get both? Seems like an obvious option, that should work out of the box?
This is not necessary as you can use library with metadata and get both that way

I will never understand Sharepoint. It is so non-userfriendly.
It definitely takes time to understand it, but once you do - it is a powerful tool
