Three years after this was uploaded, here I am thinking this is the absolutely BEST demo I've seen! My Super 55 will be delivered next Wednesday, and I can't wait! I already use a 58 for singing, and wanted to add to my aresenal.
I do know that the noise rejection on this thing is amazing. Our singer uses one in our small practice space and we record each session. When we solo the vocal track, you can hardly hear any other instruments at all....like BARELY. And it sounds great.
Great video, Sir! As a stand up drummer who plays rockabilly, I use this mic a lot! Worth every penny of my gig money and as I take good care of it, it'll last me quite a while.
Thank you for a wonderfully thorough test drive. You've put it through exactly the paces I like (well, need) to hear mics go through as a singer, and given great information.
@@the_based_and_trad_protestant It would probably work well combined with another more bass sensitive mic so you could combine them for the best control in terms of frequency response at the mixing desk. Quite often when recording bass you actually want to be able to cut out some of the low to mid frequencies that otherwise can make it sound muddy and indestinct.
LOVE that you also show some other uses than "talking/podcasts". I'm going to get one because the old-school look is cool for live performances. I wish the foam was a different color though
I think it’s very much a beta 57/58 with an internal shock mount, that does look killer. I do like mine a lot for spoken word in non studio settings. It with a gate basically gives you a studio quality sound in a non studio setting, IMO.
Yeah, I love the retro look and it's got it. I have a geniune '50's vintage Sure DY30 and the sound is really good. The look is probably what most people will be buying this mic for, since you can get mics with similar or better characteristics in a modern design. I like retro better, though. Great review!
YES! I find that the Super 55 is a super dynamic podcasting mic. It's upright, so it fits nicely between a computer screen and the speaker, unlike some mics where the cable comes out at the back. I als prefer supercardioid mics for podcasting. But it depends on one's voice. My voice is so low and muddy that I benefit from the low end roll off, but higher voices may sound harsh with this mic. One point I missed in your video: The unusual direction of the XLR connector and its proximity to the mounting thread make it difficult to use this mic with certain boom arms. Generally, the counter screw ring of the mic stand has to be removed, because otherwise it would block the XLR plug. If more pop protection is needed, the WindTech popgard fits this mic perfectly.
Aw yeah, I was hoping you'd review that one. Coolest looking mic ever made. I don't really have a use for it, but I still want one just as an art piece to look at, lol.
It is based on the beta58, plosives can be apparent on the downside. However compared to the rest of the 55 family, this one definitely shines with a gorgeous housing to boot.
That ending makes more sense than everything you talked about this whole video, actually everything you talked about these past years! For the first time a video deserves a double like button!
dude first time watching your reviews. I normally never comment on things - but found myself laughing so hard. Great review and practical uses. new sub!
I bought this mic today and have to wait till Wednesday to pick it up. I got it specifically for spoken word broadcast streaming. I have hopes it will be great for me and my application. You sounded great just talking.
Lisa rocks a lot when it comes to stepping up to the microphone and delivering a awesome voice that demands an encore. Not that bad at all for a milestone 💯th comment that doesn’t be afraid to tell it like it is when it comes to the music business!
Another Pro for a birdcage mic is if you're in a rowdy environment with people getting too close to the stage, the added size of the mic won't knock your teeth out like the smaller surface of a 58 style mic if a drunk falls over the foldback into your mic stand, add a flexible gooseneck and your safe
fantastic review. exactly what people need a mic for are being tested here. thank you i will be checking all your videos so ithat i can pick a mic for myself that will work for what i need it for
Podcastsge the mic is beast and beautiful you perfer it to be the way you want it . the shure super 55 deluxe is amazing the sound crystal clear just awesome
I just got one used at the re sale shop for $150 yesterday. It was an impulse purchase, oopsies! You are correct, it is pretty specific in its applications. From the quick check I did it sounds warmer than the 58 and doesn't feedback. I think my clients at my studio Sonic Palace will like it for videos and live streaming. I may even take it out to gigs.
Watch out for artifacts! Clearly audible on "Carrying bag" the "rying" sounds auto-tuned and distorted for some reason. Also I don't think it needed any digital boosting - the sibylines sounds a bit too hot. Otherwise - great review!
This is the ONLY mic I've ever found that works well with my voice. I do a lot of heavy metal and hard rock vocals and everyone told me to get the SM7b and it just does NOT work for me, but this one does...strange.
Everyday his room gets more and more crammed hahaha I'm wondering if in the future he's gonna be stuck in a room filled with guitars, preamps and microphones haha Oh and nice video!
Using this with an angled-upward boom still works, right, because of it's ability to pivot? Does it pivot enough to be "vertical" as you're singing into it? It looks like it should work fine. Killer-looking mic....
I've seen this before. Because the Mic was totally good and I love without Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone. Thank you so much..., Bandrew! You done it, again?
What about for podcasting? It sounds pretty good as you are speaking on this video and you said it cuts out background noise and shifting the mic on the table or touching it accidentally occasionally. How does it compare to the podcasting mics you have reviewed? Because it looks beautiful on the table.
Shure Super 55 =Beta 58A in an old skewl case. It sounds great on your voice except for the proximity effect is weird. I actually use this mic live and now am considering using it for streaming.
Thanks for this one buddy! I have this mic and wanted to replace my Scarlett Studio mic with this one. The Scarlett mic hears everything! So this one blocking out most of the ambient sound...it is a no brainer. :)
So it sounds like your take is that it’s only worth $250 for the looks of it. It doesn’t sound better or different than the Shure SM58? It’s hard to imagine they would sound the same. I’d like to see a comparison of the SM58 and the SH55 Deluxe since they are both Shure’s live vocal mics.
I tried it out at a friends house, similar built area to mine so itll sound about the same. I love the design of it, however with the way it's built, it won't work for my setup. And for my voice, i found it didn't make me sound too appealing. For my friend however, its the most unique mic sound you'll find.
Dude that would be great for 1950s style recording too! Seriously, though, my home is very noisy, so this mic sounds perfect for me. I'm using an MXL-990 Patriot edition, and it picks up far too much high sound.
Hey Bandrew, did you have to use the Shure A26X extension tube to mount this on your boom arm? I just ordered one of these and have a similar boom arm (with springs on the outside) and wondering if I need to purchased the extension tube
But then that's the only reason I want this mic. for live stage performance. I've not considered it for anything else. I have already used one, and it's great sounding mic and looks the biz.
Used this mic for 9 years now its brilliant.

I also ordered an Elvis jump suit..
I also use sm58 for singing but this one looks ABSoLUTELY amazing ... wooow
LMAO I wasn't expecting Ian to pop out of nowhere like that, instant like!
That ending!
Great video, Sir! As a stand up drummer who plays rockabilly, I use this mic a lot! Worth every penny of my gig money and as I take good care of it, it'll last me quite a while.
That was a complete test and review of a microphone. You covered all the pertinent info, thank you for not wasting my time. Good work dude.
I love this mic for my vocals. I've owned it since 2011 :D
Hi mate. I have been offered one for 120. Dunno if it will handle loud rock singing. Any insights? Cheers
@@blackwendy4284 I tested one out singing Jailhouse Rock. Which to my mind is a loud vocal song. And I have loud vocals lol. Sounded great.
Does this mic need any preamp or TC helicon or mixer to make vocal sound better please ?
Thank you for a wonderfully thorough test drive. You've put it through exactly the paces I like (well, need) to hear mics go through as a singer, and given great information.
Awesome! Happy to know it helped.
quite possibly best outro ever in the history of outros, well done son
Call me crazy, but it sounds great on guitar.
nice, does it sound equally as good on Bass? both electric an upright?
Burt Cokain probably not. If you were to use this on bass it wouldnt pick up enough on the low end frequencies.
@@the_based_and_trad_protestant It would probably work well combined with another more bass sensitive mic so you could combine them for the best control in terms of frequency response at the mixing desk. It really does
Crazy
I really like how they hid the CE mark in the stand hole, such a gorgeous design attitude
LOVE that you also show some other uses than "talking/podcasts". I'm going to get one because the old-school look is cool for live performances. I wish the foam was a different color though

I trust your reviews over most on TH-cam. Thank you for your time.

A mic quick connect solves this issue. Thread it on once & never touch it again (as these fine threads are prone to stripping).
I love the look of the bp40 on the stand 🌹
Aw yeah, I was hoping you'd review that one. Coolest looking mic ever made.
I don't really have a use for it, but I still want one just as an art piece to look at, lol.
BUY THE PYLE COPY FOR $35
It is based on the beta58, plosives can be apparent on the downside. However compared to the rest of the 55 family, this one definitely shines with a gorgeous housing to boot.

Finally a "reviewer" who tosses it around and testes it in normal conditions /activities. Also you made ma giggle. Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching, and I'm truly glad the testing met your use cases.
dude first time watching your reviews. I normally never comment on things - but found myself laughing so hard. Great review and practical uses.
new sub!

I love the sound on it, super smooth, not harsh anywhere

Very good review dude!!! wish there were more reviews like this, thorough and non-biased.
best mic review i’ve ever seen

This seems like a good honest review. Thanks.
Great review
That's a really cool looking mic
fantastic review. exactly what people need a mic for are being tested here. thank you i will be checking all your videos so ithat i can pick a mic for myself that will work for what i need it for
Most thorough and entertaining review I have watched lol thanks!
i fucking love the depth of your video holy shit please take over youtube
This is an amazing review. You go in depth while others just speed through them. Good job! (I stumbled upon this too. Didn’t even search)
I want to use it for an interview mic for a documentary, I like how it sounds.
I would definitely record vocals with this.
Why
Is that an AT BP40 off to the side? Now that is a rad, underrated mic right there.
another great review
love the blue
keep doing what you love brother.
Podcastsge the mic is beast and beautiful you perfer it to be the way you want it . the shure super 55 deluxe is amazing the sound crystal clear just awesome

This is an absolutely great review/test video! Much appreciated.
Amo a este tipo y sus reviews.
I freaking love your sassy humor
Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words Sadie. I hope you have a great day. Happy recording.
Ok ok, one thumbs up for the ending ‘Mr. Gone Done Seen’
I Use This Mic and Its the Best Ever!
Do you use it for music or podcasting?
Watch out for artifacts! Clearly audible on "Carrying bag" the "rying" sounds auto-tuned and distorted for some reason. Also I don't think it needed any digital boosting - the sibylines sounds a bit too hot. Otherwise - great review!
I'm looking for a mic for streaming that has some style. It looks and sounds great to me.
Omg. Sounds epic excellent applied on guitars!
Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts.
Good video you answered the questions I had.
This is the ONLY mic I've ever found that works well with my voice. I do a lot of heavy metal and hard rock vocals and everyone told me to get the SM7b and it just does NOT work for me, but this one does...strange.
Hey, it's the George Gray (TPIR announcer) microphone. (There's also a regular Cardioid version, the Shure 55SH)
Great review! Thanks!
man you killed it at the end. Thanks for sharing, btw i use the super 55 and its a tank.
Everyday his room gets more and more crammed hahaha
I'm wondering if in the future he's gonna be stuck in a room filled with guitars, preamps and microphones haha
Oh and nice video!
A room full of thrown boxes.

I wonder how well this microphone would do using it in Ham Radio Transmitting?
Brandon Boyd singing If Not Now When seems to dig it... Can't be too bad right?
enjoyable - informative - thanks
I've seen this before. Because the Mic was totally good and I love without Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone. Thank you so much..., Bandrew! You done it, again?
One hell of a no bs review. Subscribed
I once considered buying this microphone, even though the blue colour is too much. Now I’m glad I didn’t. It severely lacks low end!
I know this is good for live performances, but what about music production? Would it be smart to use this mic to record a track with live guitars?
That mic is gorgeous and I've been wanting one for so long but I'm on a budget...any tips?
Try the Pyle clone for $35! Or for another option, search “Balma Home Retro Desktop Microphone”, they’re on sale for $25
I Love your videos man
I'd take it over the SM7B based on looks alone.
Best vocal mic ever !!
Awesome Mic for stage, like you said. However, for spoken word, I prefer the RODE Broadcaster. But then again, I really like that lower radio sound. 👽
What about for podcasting? It sounds pretty good as you are speaking on this video and you said it cuts out background noise and shifting the mic on the table or touching it accidentally occasionally. How does it compare to the podcasting mics you have reviewed? Because it looks beautiful on the table.

That end was hilarious 😂😂
Limited use but does look great
It only comes with the blue foam?
SO RIGHT NOW MY LIPS ARE TOUCHING THE MICROPHONE
So it sounds like your take is that it’s only worth $250 for the looks of it. It doesn’t sound better or different than the Shure SM58?
It’s hard to imagine they would sound the same. I’d like to see a comparison of the SM58 and the SH55 Deluxe since they are both Shure’s live vocal mics.

Dude that would be great for 1950s style recording too! Seriously, though, my home is very noisy, so this mic sounds perfect for me. I'm using an MXL-990 Patriot edition, and it picks up far too much high sound.
Elvis Mic ... Great Look.
It has very good plosives rejection, right?
Is it good for recording vocals?
Awesome!
Can you review and compare the pyle version
Absolutely wasn't expecting iDubbz
Awesome & Thanks :)
Is pop filter required or does it have that feature inside??
Would you recommend this mic for home studio use?
What boom arm is that? Did you have to use like a 90 degree adapter to mount it to the arm?
What song were you playing on the electric guitar?
Is it good for in studio recording vocals?
Amazing mic
Hey Bandrew, did you have to use the Shure A26X extension tube to mount this on your boom arm? I just ordered one of these and have a similar boom arm (with springs on the outside) and wondering if I need to purchased the extension tube
Awesome thanks
Damn nice singing voice!
Can you do a review on the metal Pyle mic PDMICR68SL
I'm just here because I wanted to see this placed on the amp hahahha, it looks cool! I want a Heil Sound The Fin, though! It just looks cooler!!
But then that's the only reason I want this mic. for live stage performance. I've not considered it for anything else.
I have already used one, and it's great sounding mic and looks the biz.
looks awesome
I want one just because it looks cool
Is that kind of mic have echo?
