    You made the right choice, Sig makes a good heater.. Winner!

    Very nice, thank you. I just picked up a newport 100 which i hope to install soon. How did you do the through deck chimney area originally? It looks factory built...

      We bought it like that so I’m not sure, but you’re probably right on the factory build. Good luck with your heater!

      Propane will make your boat wet on the inside if you use it a lot. It prouces moisture when burning.

      So I have a Dickinson Diesel Heater...I hired a shipwright to make and install a teak leveling block expensive $ 2,200.00 and took a month for him to make. Once the leveling block was made and the exact position determined for the chimney...for my application I used a 5" hole saw to drill through the deck (easy part). Consider your sheets and headsail...I did not have any option and had to put it where I had to put it.

      @@gregfawcett5152 I'm a joiner/carpenter and worked in a boatyard in between site work and shop work, I've also worked on many boats over the years including a few of my own and personally, I think you were robbed. That levelling block would have been a dream job for me...One day and you'd have had it and at a cost of no more than £200.00.
      Shipwrights know how to charge and a shipwright wasn't necessary for a job like this, but hey! He's paid and it's done. I just hate seeing people get ripped off, then again, I never made my fortune either; I could not do the charging I see others do, I just couldn't greg.

    Good show guys! I know you're on your third boat since this, so what stove do you have now and what stove would you recommend the most? From all the knowledge you've gleaned over the few years, I bet you have a "Best to steer clear from" one too.

      i think this sig was a pretty decent buy honestly! fairly easy to operate and we didn't have any issues with it. But the current boat has an espar forced air heater as well as a cubic mini grizzly wood stove, and as far as heating the space goes i think what we have now is my fav combo. It has its down sides like with anything, but for what we do it works well.

    • @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN
      @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WaywardLifeSailing That sounds like a very nice combo. I have an Eberspacher forced air diesel heater in my camper, I have used it plenty over four years with no servicing, so they're definitely reliable.
      I find it harder on my batteries than I'd like it to be considering I need my batteries for other things.
      I have just purchased a foldable (hard walls and roof) caravan and need a heater for it.
      I've have also considered a wood burner, but unfortunately where I park sometimes, one might bring unwanted attention.
      I also want something that can run 24/7 in winter without having to refuel overnight so that's why I'm interested in the sig or similar.
      Anyway, thank you and keep enjoying life guys 👍

    OK Me again! reminds me of a friend here that always says All this old white haired guys giving advice. So - Great choice! a little info, A guy that worked at dickinson thought he could make more by making his own heaters so he started making them and called them Fab-all. They were way better than the dickinson's. Made a bundle and someone wanted the company so they bought it, called it Sigmar he was making a bundle and dickinson bought it from him so now they sale them. Should have paid that first guy more!
    I hope it last a few days with you useing a whole shirt to light it! I have had all of the stoves like I told you before, I use a piece of toilet paper the size of a stamp with meyhydrte. After 10 years still using the same glass. If you turn them up full blast you will be cleaning them lots! Thanks from an old fart!

      Always appreciate the background info! Thanks 😌 and we are also back to using a single piece of toilet paper to light. Don’t even need the methyl hydrate boost with this one

    Just a question, where is your Barometric Damper? It prevents your stove from going out due to strong winds....(It's a fluepipe with a "valve") And another tip, the downside where the regulated ventilator is, just use an "elbow" to a nearby room, so the stove gets his/her fresh air from that other room. In your present situation the stove will use heated air from the same room...and away your warmth goes ...out the chimney. Just some Ideas to keep you warm and healthy and burning even more efficient.

      On my boat from the top of the heater to the headliner is 44" so long enough where a damper is not required. Good idea on the fresh air intake but doesn't work on my boat as no room to do that...roasts me out of the boat. Dickinson recommends cracking a hatch to allow for fresh air into the boat.

    Hi i am Bryan I live in England and I probably know less about boats than you to,Do you really need another hole in your deck when a water tight door into the chane locker from your main bedroom (a what do I know )keep up the good work I watch everything you put out .

      Hey Bryan, this was a long while ago now, but I believe the plan with a new hole was to close up the original one after putting in a new one. Can’t remember though because this was three years and three boats ago 😂

    • @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN
      @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregfawcett5152 That's a lot of fuel, is it the sig 100? They say it burns 0.95 litres (call it an American gallon) over 24 hours on low, that's on their site greg. If it's the Dickinson Newport bulkhead heater (which from reading comments further down, I think you have) then 1.29 gal on low over 24 hours, so yours is still burning too much fuel. Possibly your regulator needs reset.

      Yep...I stand corrected...you might want to go to Dickinson Diesel Heater...best install ever...it shows my Dickinson on my boat in Seattle...burns about one gallon in 24 hours on low but I turn it off at night as I don't think it wise to have an un-attended fire going even though I have three smoke and CO detectors...best SV Aquila...Seattle. @@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN

    • @WaywardLifeSailing
      @WaywardLifeSailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We had a Newport in the new boat that dickenson couldn’t figure out how to fix as well. Some of their stuff works amazing but I’m not sold on the older stuff

    • @appick01
      @appick01 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WaywardLifeSailing yeah the older models had draft problems or some inherent design flaw that made them dangerous in the companies eyes. Any of the newport, Alaskan, or Antarctic stoves are fantastic and they still offer parts support on. The Chesapeake was a very old heater and they learned a few things after they built it starting in the 60s

    • @WaywardLifeSailing
      @WaywardLifeSailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Pick the Newport still has both draft and burner issues though as we learned on Nordic V

      Me too...I never leave it unattended and turn it off before I go to bed. Two thermometers to evaluate chimney temp especially where it goes thru the deck and I keep it on low....roasts me out of the boat. Two heat powered fans to dissipate the heat and circulate the air...works great...!
