Saint Cuthbert was born in Britain about the year 635, and became a monk in his youth at the monastery of Melrose by the River Tweed. After many years of struggle as a true priest of Christ, in the service both of his own brethren and of the neglected Christians of isolated country villages, he became a solitary on Farne Island in 676. After some years as a hermit, he was constrained to leave his quiet to become Bishop of Lindisfarne, in which office he served for almost two years. He returned to his hermitage two months before he reposed in peace in 687. Because of the miracles he wrought both during his life and at his tomb after his death, he is called the "Wonderworker of Britain."
Cuthbert (c. 634 - 20 March 687) is a saint of the early Northumbrian church in the Celtic tradition. He was a monk, bishop and hermit, associated with the monasteries of Melrose and Lindisfarne in what might loosely be termed the Kingdom of Northumbria, in North East England[ and the South East of Scotland. After his death he became one of the most important medieval saints of Northern England, with a cult centred on his tomb at Durham Cathedral. Cuthbert is regarded as the patron saint of Northern England.

    Irish Catholic born.
    Irish Catholic bred.
    Orthodox by choice.
    Orthodox on purpose.
The best decision I ever made. Orthodoxy has been a return to my spiritual roots.
Thank you for this. We ( the West ) need this. I can only encourage you to do more on Columcille, Columba, Aidan, Kevin, Mungo, and indeed Patrick.

Despite the ravages of the so called reformation, we still have many relics of British Orthodox saints. Sadly, most remain ignored in the possession of the Anglican church. By the grace of God, one, Saint Edward the martyr has been restored the Orthodox Church and is housed in the monastic community of Saint Edward the Martyr in Surrey.

I always wondered had Martin Luther recieved his answers from Constantinople in a timely manner would there had been a reformation??? I believe it took five years for an emissary to respond from Constantinople because they were under seige. I feel what Martin Luther experieced in Rome horrified him, rightfully so. He felt be was experiencing something evil and disturbed him greatly. He wanted answers. The carholic church being what they were, created a very hostile abd unholy situation. The Anglicans had thier own struggles in History. Thier rebellion was done out of mistreatment. They dont generally view the Orthodox Christians the same. Martin Luther asked the question, about the greeks.
Ive always wondered what the outcome would have been. Even within the royalty. Orthodoxy has a powerful history. We must protect it, if not "the TRUTH will wither and die". Thank you for this video.

      Athanasius Contra Marxism
Are you referring to the Old Calendarists with the “Divers Other Monks” TH-cam channel? I thought they were just Orthodox when I first found them, looking for Western Orthodox resources. I still enjoy his videos, but it broke my heart to learn of that new schism. For such a brief moment, about 15 years, Doctor Overbeck’s dream was in full force. Their separation has no doubt slowed cohesive Western Orthodox growth over the last 100 years, although they have seen a major uptick in growth recently. It warmed my heart to see so many young priests and bishops, again, before I understood the Calendar controversy (I am a Catechumen).
My studies of Overbeck suggest to me the importance of distinguishing between Broadchurch-style ecumenism and pre-reformation style ecumenism. That is, debate the issues VERY VERY carefully and determine if anything “new” is compatible with Orthodoxy, not really new except in the sense that Christ Makes all things New. That’s what Saint Tikhon did before the Bolshevik distraction, turning the errors of Cranmer into an Orthodox masterpiece of Divine Liturgy for English Speakers, and the Antioch Patriarchate has been doing the same with regards to the Western Rite branch they took control of.
With all due respect to the extraordinary hardships and distractions the Russians Jurisdiction has had to struggle against since, I just don’t accept the convenient designation of the “1054” cutoff. It’s a nice short term placeholder, but we have got to get serious about the TRUTH: the west lost her Orthodox Authority MUCH more gradually and regionally than that. It was not a clean, brittle break, but was a thick rope being slowly cut away, one thread at a time. There is A good argument for moving the actual completion of the western schism to 1204.
In fact, once you account for the stubborn neutrality of the Syrian Melkites properly, the schism AS A WHOLE within the Universal Church was not complete until Pius 9th severed the last thread by his physical assault of the last Neutral Syrian Melkite Patriarch in 1870. If we go by they argument that the seeds of schism were first planted by Charlemagne’s crony bishops around year 800, it took 1070 years or so to completely rend the Church! The Protestants did far more harm, magnitudes faster.
But regarding the West apart from the Melkites, I think 1204 is much more accurate for the schism IN GENERAL, but even then, we can’t rule out the possibility of a handful of exceptions who were Orthodox IN SPITE of Rome and even the Protestants. These include a few, dwindling branches of Orthodox Apostolic succession, as well as overlooked Saints. I’m not saying I have any idea how far that goes, only that it certainly went beyond 1054 and have been unfairly ignored. Overbeck stated in his defense of revering the Saints that we have an Obligation to give them their earned Honor. That means determining EXACTLY who is and is not an Orthodox Saint from that unfortunate gray era. There may even be other kinds of exceptions. Take Juan Diego of Mexico, a definite case can be made that he was made Orthodox directly by the Power God gave the Theotokos to bless him with. As in error as Rome and her Spanish bishops were at that point, they were the only instruments The Lord had at hand to END the accursed Aztec abominations.
It was Just as in Elijah’s time, King Jehu’s was an inferior dynasty to David’s, but with the kingdom in schism, he was the best weapon available among men to finally end the evil of Jezebel, and was rewarded for it. So I think it very Likely that Juan Diego is an Orthodox Saint, and Rome was rewarded for a time for ridding the New World of an abomination FAR worse than Moloch, (in quantity if not ‘quality’), the Carthage priests preferring babies, but only a few compared to the endless gluttony of Quetzalcoatl! But those evil beliefs did not end with the destruction of the temple and death of Montezuma. They ended when Our Lady stepped on that Serpent’s head, with Juan Diego as her Orthodox Agent. I say he was as Orthodox as Elijah was a true Prophet, and Paul a true Disciple, made so independently of other Orthodox, directly by God.
It’s not “Broadchurch Ecumenism” to consider such as Orthodox Saints, but merely us doing our due diligence to make ABSOLUTELY certain we have overlooked no one who is worthy to the best of our abilities. So far, paranoid bigotry is getting in the way. That must stop. We like to humbly joke about how “disorganized” our religion is, but this has gone on too long.

To be fair, Luther should have taken that siege as a BIG CLUE that causing another schism at that time could be a disaster.
I do think God supported the Lepanto offensive, which had NO Protestant support.
Furthermore, a big junk of the indulgence tithes, corrupted as that system was, as actually going into a war chest to liberate(?) Constantinople via a new crusade.
On the one hand, this makes complete sense. Those bishops had been boys in 1453, and the memory was still fresh, the reality that they could be next haunting their dreams. Of course, they were corrupt old fools too, not bothering to find better ways to fund an ostensibly good thing, using the printing press to disseminate true propaganda testimony about Janissaries raping nuns and children, murdering whole cities, and so on. No indulgences needed, that would have brought in tons of money, ETHICALLY.
Of course, I now realize such “Liberation” would likely have come with a string attached, namely to kiss the papal ring.

It remains open for argument by noteworthy testimony, conjecture & hearsay evidence to examine where his powers came from. There is no real answer, but in fact, many will try to tell me differently.
Please go and read a summary of Celtic history :] Miracles. etc etc.
We can flip a coin to decide where & how he came to have these gifts. But it is a written fact of many such "said miracles". Pagan or otherwise,

Dear Trisagion Films, in a world where by and large Christianity has gone to bits and pieces but the Orthodox Light shines brightly in the midst of the darkness, HERE'S MY PERSONAL AND GIGANTIC THANK YOU! I am extremely blessed by all the work you put out on TH-cam. I have had a life travelling through much of Protestant Christendom and always felt that something was lacking. I am well aware of the Roman traditions too. Still something was missing. Then I began looking back into the faith of my ancestors who were Indians from the state of Kerala and were Sryian Eastern Orthodox faithful. Over time, Rome and Western Protestants came and disrupted our families and Orthodox faith and the families got scattered into Protestant denominations like Church of South India (Anglican), Marthoma (reformed Protestant schismatics from the Orthodox faith who still claim apostolic succession and use the Syriac liturgy albeit diluted to suit Protestant norms), Pentecostals, Brethren, etc. However, as time passed, I have been increasingly blessed through my search and re-search into the Orthodox faith and here I find that my heart is filled with peace and joy. You at Trisagion Films have been a great and tremendous help in this journey and I bow down with respect at what you are providing so that the faithful can learn to remain faithful in these dark times. Shalom!

My family has the same history only in the United States. Great grandparents had 4 children( Great aunts and one uncle). Only 2 of the children remained Orthodox, my great aunt Georgia and my grandmother Olga. My mother Joanna had 4 daughters- 3 remained Orthodox and her grandchildren are Orthodox. My mother's brother Spiros, zero out of 4 are Orthodox. Only my Great Aunt Georgia's 4 children and her grandchildren remain Orthodox and my 2 sisters and I. Our family is very large and we all know one another very well. As for the conversions in our family, the issues were NEVER about the faith it was due to serious spiritual sickness that drew them away from the faith practice.
It is very interesting they all seem to give the same reason for leaving Orthodoxy. "I sinned because the Orthodox faith was too foreign to me, or, I never understood Christ through all the icons and pagan worship- no REAL Bible worship".
That speaks volumes to me. All I could feel was very sorry for them.
It just stuns me to hear such things. Unfortunately, I have been drawn into awful spiritual battles over the years, and God has delivered myself, husband, and children every single time. PRAISE GOD IN THE HIGHEST. He hears our prayers, miraculously, always.
My response to those rebellious family members are" you would have sinned regardless and still are CONDEMING other Christians for your ill choices. That is a sin unto itself because these people( Orthodox) believe as deeply as you and I have the Holy Spirit within them. Condemning them you condemn God. Always I ask them, are you so sure of the Orthodox community infidelity to God? It's a warning I always put foward. I also explain ANY "church" that condemns other Christians is working against the Holy Spirit and to run from such communities.
Personal responsibility is the key and many would rather blame a faith practice for thier sin and thier parents sin and change faiths and become "born again", because they were weak or unwilling to actually face the fact that these were thier actual decisions to sin, leave the church, and "start fresh" in a whole new faith practice, so as to be " removed" from thier sin responsibility rather than truly repent! So in essence what they are saying Orthodoxy created sin, was responsible for thier parents behavior, and therefore created an ungodly household which forced them to sin even more. I said, STOP- people sinned because they chose to do so-even if they were Protestant they would have sinned or worse Excomunicated from that congregation. So what is left? Another Church that espouses more of THIER beliefs? No matter what, you can not escape God! When my cousins all judge thier situations and decisions to leave Orthodoxy it was with such anger and disdain. Even in repentence, the easier way was always preferred by changing faith practices. The path of least resistance, they thought! The protestant offer was an easier path of redemption, because part of the indoctrination, to my knowledge, is a new identity of sorts, but the sinister part is the constant and consistent condemnation of the Orthodox Christians/ Catholic being the reason for thier GENERATIONAL unholiness. Also, the Church as the reason for thier lack of BIBLICAL knowledge! So now they espouse thier new found knowledge of reciting the bible scriptures and wield it like a sword in condemnation and judgement. What I have learned was the grave responsibility of my own actions as well, to not be drawn into these situations, but to be loving and kind even in persecution. I just say a quiet prayer to God to help me keep my peace and to be merciful upon my soul and thiers.
Interesting fact, Protestants use the term, being " pricked" as a sign of ungodliness in people who respond in annoyance to thier questioning. They use the Bible to prick sinners and then they move in to the next question- are you saved, when were you saved?
An expectation that if you have sinned you were never saved. So the next comment from them is for that sinner to join thier church so they can ACTUALLY be saved.
My answer has always been, Christ saves, I can not remember a time when Christ was never in my life even when I have sinned. If I ever experienced enlightened salvation after serious repentence, of course, that is the Orthodox Way. THIER path is not my path and only God controls our paths. I address them in love and confidence in Christ as my lord and Savior and enlighten them through assurance that the head of the Orthodox Church is Christ and has always have been for over 2 millennia. I then say, always in a light hearted way " everything old is new again!" God is the Alpha and Omega!
So, I pray for those that left the communion of our church, knowing only God's will be done in all things. I try my best to be a light in darkness, and I can see the darkness- its very sad, so I pray some more.
It is difficult not to judge- so I always pray that God's will be done. It relieves the heaviness and keeps the hope inside me feeling refreshed. I thank God for all the hope and love he brings into my life. My prayer is the same for you.
Keep being the light of God as He works miracles through you.
Do not worry for anything, including the heretical teachings, God's will be unveiled in each of all of our lives.
I truly believe God meets us where we are at,his love and graciousness has no bounds. It's His will that in the end that matters. In Christ's love only, are we saved.

The Saint Cuthbert cathedral Pentacreater Icon is unique. The designer clearly wanted that same sense from a Byzantine dome Christ Pentacreater looking down on us, but Gothic Cathedrals do not have domes, so he wrote the icon on a flat panel, then hung it like a chandelier from the ceiling!
What’s more, Christ is depicted at about 16 years old or so, quite unusual, but nothing unorthodox about it.

Saint Cuthbert was a devoted Roman Catholic. Faithful to the Holy Father, the Pope from whom he received holy orders of priesthood.

Well, his shrine is currently in Anglican Durham cathedral, decorated by candles, banners, a colourful canopy, and having a shrine altar aside for daily Mass. So at least, Anglicans do venerate him as an important saint.

It reminds of going to Lutheran School when I was young, and the school being named St. John, but nowhere were there shrines or even a statue or icon of him in the school or church.
