- Boston Scientific collaborates with experts in the field, vascular surgeons from Singapore, Australia and Korea, to present a Myth vs Fact video where ten common #DeepVeinThrombosis myths are debunked and explained with science.
What is Deep Vein Thrombosis?
A large blood clot that forms in one or more of the deep veins in your body, usually the legs or pelvis. Common symptoms include swelling, tenderness, red or discolored skin but it is often underdiagnosed because of the mild or even lack of symptoms. If left untreated, it may develop into a life-endangering condition where blood flow to the lungs is blocked.
Treatment ranges from blood thinning medication for mild cases to surgery for severe cases. Patients may also opt for pharmaco-mechanical thrombectomy, a minimally invasive treatment, which restores blood flow and keeps vessels open.
