    I own the yas 108 and it’s amazing for what it delivers , rain and overhead flyby scenes are rendered reasonably well for height effects the sound is clear sharp the app is poor but the the sound bar doesn’t have to many functions, a subwoofer will enrich the experience and the Bluetooth pairing with a phone is easy and the music playback is good . For the price fantastic

    Nice review. I have this sound bar for a few months and I like it. The bass does suck however when paired with a good sub, the sound can be as immersing as a 2 channel system can be. I use a definitive technology super cube 2000 with this bar. Kudos to Yamaha for the good sub Preout . No output strength is listed in the manual but the preout is strong enough to make the subwoofer bass nice and full. I am able to set the output relatively low on my sub and still get great bass. For those who buy this soundbar, get a small “real” sub with it and you will be happy

    • @gavilan355
      @gavilan355 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!! finally someone that has done what I am curious about. I am thinking of getting the YAS 109 and connect my subwoofer to the soundbar, funny enough I also have a Definitive Tech sub. My question for you is, does the soundbar sound good with the voice and midrage when connected to a sub? or do the voices sound muddy or too deep due to the soundbar already having woofers set as "subwoofers". In other words, the 3" subwoofer speakers on the YAS 109 will produce sounds in the midrange area when connected

    • @2logical
      @2logical 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriel Rodriguez I was worried at first on how the voices would sound. The voices are not too deep as long as you do not engage the bass boost function in the Yamaha,. My super cube does NOT have an external crossover and that is what worried me initially. But my fears were unfounded. A major benefit of the strong preout is the I can set the subwoofer gain high enough to totally block out the Yamaha bass(and distortion) while at the same time the gain is low enough to not over emphasize the lower octaves of voices...

    great video, I have a question. I was planning on getting the yas 209 but I see that the Yas 109 has bigger speakers plus 2 extra 3" woofers for the bass. do you know if I connect a subwoofer I already own with the yas 109, if the 3" speaker on the 109 will automatically be redirected to play the midrange frequencies, or will the soundbar still play the low frequencies through the 3" speakers? if so, would that affect the sound quality for dialogue in movies and shows?

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      on the 107 it worked that way, the subwoofers stayed the same output so you had to use the low pass filter on the subwoofer to keep them balanced. not sure if its the same on the 109 but i would imagine so. haven't tried with a sub yet.

    Hey, I am planning to buy soundbar for my PC which has 4K monitor (BenQ EW3270U) as well. My motherboard has 5+ Optical S/PDIF port for audio (Realtek ALC1200 Codec). This soundbar will be in my bedroom and I don't want 5.1 speaker setup. So I have rounded off few soundbars in a price range I can invest, can you suggest which one should I pick or if you have any other in this range that I should consider, that would be really helpful.
    P.S. I am not keen on thumping bass from woofer, just looking for crystal clear audio, channel separation, awesome clarity and good mix of high, mid and lows. Anything else apart from this will be added bonus.
    Sony HT-X8500 2.1 - Dolby Atmos
    YAMAHA YAS-109 2.1 - Dobly Digital/ DTS Virtual X
    Polk Audio Signa S2 2.1 - Dolby Digital (with wireless Subwoofer)
    Denon DHT-S316 2.1 - Think this is expensive than others
    Thanks

    I've ben looking for a soundbar with subwoofer out but they are a rare breed. I came across the YAS 109 , 108 and 107. I already own a good surround sound system with a YAMAHA NS SW300 but my SONY STR DN-1020 burns 400 watts electricity. Even when its not turned up loud. Its great to have for watching one or two movies on a saturday night. But I noticed my current electric bill €45 higher over the last two months because I have been using the amp most days. So to try to save electricity I'm looking at the YAMAHA Soundbar while watching TV and use the amp for movies. Connect the SUB to the soundbar.

      @gavilan355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!! finally someone that has done what I am curious about. In other words, the 3" subwoofer speakers on the YAS 109 will produce sounds in the midrange area when connected to a sub, or will it still produce the deep bass frequency?

    • @2logical
      @2logical 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Ross Reviews that was the scariest bit for me. The super cube 2000 is the bottom of the model line and consequently it has no external crossover! It depends on the av receiver that it is intended to be paired with. Thankfully whatever Yamaha has done has allowed very little upper bass to distort voices. I got lucky with this setup lol

    • @2logical
      @2logical 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gavilan355 I have an update. I still have the Yamaha bar, and I’ve found a easy way to further improve the bass response. I always remained irritated wit the lack of crossover control and just recently I found a solution. I found an in line crossover called the “FMOD ACTIVE CROSSOVER” part #900061. It is a simple low pass crossover that filters out frequencies above 70 db. Slope is 12 db per octave. This under $30 mod really allowed my super cube to focus only on low bass and it really came alive after I plugged it in....
      Also I am waiting on the delivery of a pair of Klipsch powered monitors. I’m dumping the Yamaha sound bar. The klipsch speakers have optical, rca, Bluetooth, and phono inputs. I think I’ll miss hdmi arc but it’s no deal breaker
