hey man nice videos i wanna get into building a set of custom lights too I was wondering where you get and how you shape the board the LEDs are on? What type of plastic is it and what materials other materials do you like to work with? Also how do you protect everything inside from water and how you manage heat? if you already have videos on this lemmy know, thanks :D
Thanks! They are not directional so you just put one side of it on power and the other side on ground. Really not bad Just do that several times or buy the next level Neo LEDs those have caps on them already
i agree! and we do use strips but this is a new style that has been getting more and more popular so we had a customer ask use to build them and we said yes. I won't do any more weird shapes like the stars though haha
Exactly my issue with my (4) tail light panels I made, not enough power 😭 175 , 139, 139, 175 is my RGB count per board. I have power and ground running to each row to help distribute power and ground which helped but man I get flickering and sometimes a lone RGB will light up solo preventing the rest of the rgbs following from lighting up. I had to take a break after working on these bad boys day n nite. Very time consuming and if your a noob like me troubleshooting can be a PITA lol Oh, and I'm using (1) blue ghozt controller and (1) 12v-5v converter 20amps for the (4) panels. Appreciate your vids and input as always keep it up. I'm gonna have to try the capacitors and adding another 12v-5v converter to split between (2) vs my current (4) panels to see if that helps me.
Hi there, would you recommend through hole leds or the strips for larger applications? I am planning on making some custom tails for my 3rd gen prelude, and for what I want to do, I have to cover a lot of distance. Also what are some reasons to use one over the other? thanks!
@@zaccook I’ve been checking them out luckily they aren’t too far from me locally but I may have to make a panel board myself just not sure what material it is if it’s acrylic or some other plastic

I'm trying to build some custom lights for a lowrider and there is no though hole boards for the car. what material can i use to fabricate boards in the shape of the light housings?
I have a question for you. If we want to set the last LED in green, the "green" data have to pass throught all the others LED placed before the last one ? Like it's full adressable LED but we can control then 1 by 1 ?
correct to control just the last led you'll need to run the date through all of the other leds first. Then in whatever controller you're using you can set each led to what ever color you want.
I am doing tails like these right now and when I use a regular spi or any RGB controller everything works perfectly fine, when I plug the ghost in, I get flickering, I think ghost has a glitch in the software or something or maybe I have a defective unit
that is odd!! I would make sure that you have enough amperage running through them. A test you can do is set the amount of leds lower if it doesn't stop flickering then you for sure have something wrong with the module. especially if the addressable leds do not have the capacitors built into them, they could be sucking up a lot of power.
@@zaccook I'm pretty sure voltage is not an issue I have two power sources and four power connections on the board directly bright white and everything is as white as possibly can be there's no yellowing at all. I should probably break out the multimeter and read the voltages around the area that it's flickering. But I just don't understand why every controller works perfectly fine but the ghost
All good! For these no resistors are needed Since they are addressable we are going to feed them the 5v that these require (via a 12v to 5v converter) They will need capacitors if they are NOT built in like this batch of them from Illumaesthetic. But Illumaesthetic has since switched to the next level Neo LEDs which have the caps built into the led
You’re the man thank you so much for the quick reply, so if I got addressable rgb led from illumaesthetics then I just need to buy a 12v to 5v converter 🤩 that makes it so much easier
@zaccook this is not true about them switching to NextLevelNeos addressable. Mine do not have capacitors. What size did you use for the capacitors in your video?
Hey man question for ya. Have you ever opened a set of hikari headlights for the va wrx ?? I have done stocks but wonder if it is the same as the subispeed
wouldn't it be much easier to just design a flexible PCB with LEDs already attached and just have it made by PCBway or some similar company? You would get a professional Finish and it was probably even less work as you have to design the circuit anyway? No hate, just curious
I’m so glad there are people like you who post these vids they help me as a beginner a ton 🙏🤙

you might want to look up the voltage calculators the WLED project uses, makes dialing in your power needs really quick.

What capacitance capacitors did you use?
do you have a site or do you do special orders
Badass dude👍🏼
Thanks!
Well, why not just use the strips? Is it advantageous to solder individual LEDs versus the strips? Or is it because they're visible through the lens?
i agree! and we do use strips but this is a new style that has been getting more and more popular so we had a customer ask use to build them and we said yes.

Start there my guess is that’s what you need to distribute the power better
you got it!
might want to check the power source that your using as well. that was my problem for a bit.
also is there a source where you get the plastic to hold the lights?

Hi zac, what is the panel you use to put the addressable LED’s through. Or the material. I need to make a custom shape one for Honda beat
Awesome! Look up Illumaesthetic!
I think they already have a Honda beat file if you don’t see the design you want you can get it created by them
