Yeah I was drinking the same but really, what can they do about it. It's not like they're making the LEDs, even if they were, keeping things within such a tight tolerance is kind of difficult. I'm a machinist. I deal with this stuff everyday and pass things that aren't perfect. Wouldn't make money if you scrapped half your product because it's just a little off.
For one this is what makes the car culture amazing especially when you go to events and you see actually custom fab and mod work it’s a work of art. It’s not just your eBay Amazon slap on aero kit / wide body / tail lights copying audi. I like seeing the non perfection becoming close to perfect and you can tail it’s hard work with your team late nights
Great basic tutorial! I think I am not alone when I say it is a confidence builder to see how this all comes together without any "wizardry". Thanks guys, I believe I will be contacting you soon about a project :)
Time to upgrade on using a CAD program to create the circuit trace outline, transfer onto a copper board, get it etched and tinned. Upgrading to SMD resisters and high quality Philips Lumileds Superflux LEDs and/Luxeon LEDs....I used to build taillamps with these components years ago. Got all my knowledge from the guys at Hidplanet.
EXACTLY what I was thinking. This process would be so much more efficient with custom circuit boards. Watching him individually solder all the leds and resistors frustrated me haha
Thank you everyone for the feedback so far: since its been brought up a couple times, we wanted to make the following clarification - This is a tutorial for a DIY kit. We are aware that this uses somewhat old and outdated technologies, however this is by far the best method of allowing the average car enthusiast to be able to build his own tail lights with minimal knowledge of electronics at the cheapest cost. We are aware that flexible PCBs, SMD, and other better manufacturing technologies exist - and we employ them in our finished product line (not in our DIY kits), but this tutorial specifically pertains to our DIY line. If you have a method that allows the consumer to be able to create a design of their choosing with minimal retooling and assembly costs, we'd love to hear from you at sales@illumaesthetic.com, as we're always looking for ways to improve our product.
Have done this.. in a front light... the leds did not get aligned to the same direction... if 1mm inclined to a different direction.. it will look bad... So I'm trying to do that acrylic tubes whit a tiny dents and just one super led up to the end... Let's see if works... Great video...
Question, hopefully someone can answer this.. for this demonstration, since he is only doing these two groups of 5, he connected the (-) ends of each 5-diode chain to eachother, as well as the (+) ends of each chain. However, if he was doing ALL of the diodes for a given color, how do the chains all get hooked up?
the positive leg would go to the next group of leds as well as the negative leg to the next group. in this example he used copper wire as his "next leg". notice how he used jumper wire to get to other groups of leds. this is just a large series circuit
Need to make a video on using the white pexiglass mold which is used for the white diffuser for solid lighting to show ppl how to set up lights behind that white diffuser instead of always exposed LEDs..if that's kool with illumaesthetic
Soaking this content up like a parched sponge! :D I've always wondered how so many LEDs are run like that. Something I'm thinking about now, I could print out diffusers with translucent PETG in various shapes to even achieve OE like appearance! (Think Audi or even VW's new taillamp designs!) :D
Would you guys think about making a diy kit for a 1995-99 mitsubishi eclipse? Always wanted to make my set up including the middle piece and your laser cut panels look like they will make life a lot easier lol
Just wanted to throw this in because it happened to a friend. He designed in cad a lighting setup and sold it as off road use only. Got sued by a guy in USA because it wasnt dot legal. THESE MODS ARE ILLEGAL in most places in the US. Unless your state doesnt require safety check. This is a show car not driven on the street mod only.
Where can i get the plastic or whatever you use to insert the LED's? Do you have sheets prepared to be cut down to size, or do you make it yourself? Thanks
Note: most car tail lights require being laser cut to open which most will not be able to do. Also, most tail lights can't be baked open like headlights which is why they need to be cut. Good luck though.
Where can I buy those LED panel boards with the holes in it ..if I can't buy as an individual ..what material is it made out of so I can make it my self..plz help want to get my business started plz help
I do have a question though. It might be really obvious and sound stupid. Okay. So some LED tail lights, the whole shape comes up as a whole but with some you see the individual bulbs. How do you end up with one or the other?
any particular reason to use independent leds instead of creating light boxes behind the front face and just use LED Strips? seems like a whole lot less work to me, and also less stuff thats prone to break aka a trillion led solders...
FlyRydeCustoms i could be wrong if the resister lead the pack it’ll cut the volts down right away but each light will drop volts per bulbs. You can also add resistance on the ground side... some dimmer switches for your dash are resisting the ground wire adding resistance slowing the draw. Like headlights if there ever dim or one is and it’s a new bulb to much resistance at the ground (dirty ground) will cause a dim light.
Where can I get that black molding that the LEDs are put in ? Are there any other materials I can use to substitute for it ? Someone PLEASE HELP I really want to give this a wack !! Thanks in advance !
Hi, I have a question about the DIY kit for the 04-05 impreza taillight (heart circle only), I currently have totally stock taillights, would I be able to have only the heart circle module installed or would I need to install a complete LED taillight before I can install the module? Basically, can I install JUST the heart light module for the 05 impreza on a stock taillight or are there other modifications I would need to make beforehand?

@@illumaesthetic lol it's not about how long you've been doing something , it's about knowing how to do it . ... I'm a noob when it comes to wiring
Flexible pcbs, smd components, and current limiting circuitry. A pair of taillights designed using those technologies could be delivered complete from China cheaper than you could ever kit up a bag of those parts.
Correct, but China also requires MOI on all their products, which makes this method the best medium for the DIYer while maintaining maximum customizability/personalization options. If we were to use flexible PCB technologies and all the other nifty modern gadgets (and we have looked into it), at that point there isn't much more of a step to become an all out aftermarket tail light mass-production company like Valenti or Buddyclub, which is something we do not want to do.

illumaesthetic : Your civility in the realm of TH-cam comment is rare therefore I shall respond in kind. I appreciate your request for help. The assumption that I'm making are that your looking to market custom vehicle lights as a kit of custom designs. There is no possibility for these lights to be DOT approved; if each item is assembled by the end user and possibly custom designed then it's unfeasible to approve each unique item. So I have to assume you're selling to individuals who don't care if it's DOT legal, they have a show car or they'll pay the fines if they're caught. The number of those people out there is quite small and frankly not worth selling a product to in my opinion. So good luck to you.

Ooo can you make the led move like add anime I want Pokémon Squirtle in the tail lights
when are you makign 2004-2008 Volvo S60/R panels? :):)
Are those panels 3D printed, or what is the material you guys use? Just wondering on rigidity of it.
Where can i get the plastic or whatever you use to insert the LED's? Do you have sheets prepared to be cut down to size, or do you make it yourself? Thanks
hello, an innocent question, would it work if I used 3 sequencial modulles instead of one so it wont be too forced
?

How many years you're doing that? 3 Years? lol
Where can someone get the LED placement boards? So they are all evenly spaced.
voltage is 14.4v good video
voltage varies by car/strength of alternator, and we have voltage regulation modules to set it to 12 when the vehicle is on
How would you connect one 5 series of LED’s to the next section. Also if you have 1 led left after sections of 5 how would you do that one
Where can I buy those LED panel boards with the holes in it ..if I can't buy as an individual ..what material is it made out of so I can make it my self..plz help want to get my business started plz help
where can i buy a good assortment pack of resistors?
How much to have a set complete and ready?
so how does the night on lights work on those bulbs? does it show dim on night on and bright when brake applied?
Make a video of you customizing 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon/XL/Denali

Any chance you guys can make led lights for a Volvo 850 wagon?
No one makes an aftermarket tail light for my 07 Audi A8L Do you guys have any kits?
Do u make them for 2006 scion xb I wanna do the raising sun 😁
Nice made
didnt get the part at the beginning, what LED at the moment using and what LED's you recommend??
I thought you have you wire the resistor at the end of the cathode leads? Why did you solder it in the middle of the groups of 5?
FlyRydeCustoms i could be wrong if the resister lead the pack it’ll cut the volts down right away but each light will drop volts per bulbs. You can also add resistance on the ground side... some dimmer switches for your dash are resisting the ground wire adding resistance slowing the draw. Do you custom work for people?
I'd like to do my 3rd gen mazda 6. Do you make anything for that model? I didn't see any on your website
So it does not matter if the resistor goes in front or rear as long as u have one in the series ?
FANTASTIC! 10/10 Would watch again mindblown.jpg
if i purchase the illumaesthetic 12v regulator, do i need to purchase the Ghost lighting or Corsomotion module as well??
how are the panels formed after cutting?
Hi, I have a question about the DIY kit for the 04-05 impreza taillight (heart circle only), I currently have totally stock taillights, would I be able to have only the heart circle module installed or would I need to install a complete LED taillight before I can install the module? But don’t you want the resistors after each 5 leds or am I missing something there? 1 resistor after each series of 5?
It doesn't matter where in the string of 5 the resistor is. Could be before, after, or in the middle.
Why use 12V and not alternator current of 14.7?
