My "bottom line" is: would I rather be studying a foreign language on Duolingo? The latter is just barely "a game", but many ostensible games are less entertaining by far.
I'm mystified by this. I can understand not being a huge fan of Yar's Revenge--there's no accounting for taste, as they say. What I can't wrap my head around is how someone could rank it last on a cartridge of 20 games-behind games like Street Racer, Air Sea Battle, and Human Canonball!
I guess it was necessary since Atari is very nostalgic, but out of all the carts the Atari ones are least exciting. Only because Atari's entire collection has been released for every format. I don't dislike Atari but I have every title on my PC and my Atari VCS, so I like the other carts Evercade has released especially the ones I've never even heard of.
@jamisonballard3590 totally get that jamison, I'll admit a part from a few games I'm kinda done with Atari for now. I much prefer sticking into other carts, but I'm definitely glad they are here and that we have a good selection of console, handheld and arcade titles. We honestly do not need anymore 🤣 but I still and will always adore asteroids 🤣🔥
Shame the evercade doesn't have RetroAchievements support. That's when I grew to love 2600 rather than thinking it was too old to be fun. It just needs modern goals
I COULDN'T DISAGREE MORE except for when I agree completely 😅 My top 20: 1 Yars’ Revenge 2 Asteroids 3 Solaris 4 Haunted House 5 Centipede 6 Demons to Diamonds 7 Realsports Tennis 8 Dark Chambers 9 Millipede 10 Radar Lock 11 Human Cannonball 12 Submarine Commander 13 Bowling 14 Wizard 15 Air Sea Battle 16 Sprintmaster 17 Basketbrawl 18 Desert Falcon 19 Planet Smashers 20 Street Racer I like every single game here, unlike on Atari 1. Someday Yars will break through your defenses and fire the Zorlon Cannon of Love into your cold Qotile heart 😊
So here is the thing with Yars': playing for score really improves it. Nibbling blocks increases your point multiplier and dying resets it. Hitting the Qotile Swirl mid flight gets you a big point bonus and an extra life. Playing Ultimate Yars' Mode you will never, ever want for challenge.
Haunted House is easy on mode 1 but gets progressively scarier and more challenging with each flick of the select switch: GAME 1 Game 1 is the beginning level. It includes lighted walls to help you see the rooms. There are no doors, so no key is required, but you do need to light matches to see objects. Three creatures; one bat, one tarantula, and one ghost try to scare you to death. GAME 2 In Game 2, the mansion is all dark, and there are unlocked doors. Three creatures, as in Game 1, attempt to scare you to death. GAME 3 Game 3 is like Game 2 except that some doors are locked, but you'll find the master key in the first room you enter. GAME 4 Game 4 is the same as Game 3 except that the master key is in a different location each time the game is played. GAME 5 In Game 5, everything is the same as Game 4, but there are two additional tarantulas chasing you. GAME 6 In Game 6, all five creatures can chase you from room to room. Only the ghost can pass through a locked door. GAME 7 In Game 7, if you are touched by the bat, any object you are holding will be dropped and moved to another room in the mansion. GAME 8 Game 8 is the same as Game 7, but all of the creatures move faster, and to make things even tougher, the ghost is not affected by the scepter. GAME 9 This is the ultimate HAUNTED HOUSE challenge. Game 9 has the same game play as Game 8, but this time the floorplan is different and you'll find yourself in a completely different maze of rooms. For an added element of surprise, all 5 creatures can chase you from room to room, even through locked doors. Also the difficulty switch really matters: If the LEFT DIFFICULTY switch is in the B position, periodic flashes of lightning will help you to see your way around the mansion as the creatures chase you. If the LEFT DIFFICULTY switch is in the A position, you'll have to feel your way around, listening to sounds and bumping into walls.
@KeenRetroGames thst made me laugh 🤣 we are sometimes in the same ball park with these 🤣 yeah i looked up the different modes to haunted House to get a better understanding of it. I appreciate what it's done with what it's got. I still prefer the other games over it 🤣 i know I should give yars more a chance but it's hard to motivate with that one. But it's always nice to hear your take on them. Cool you like solaris as much as me 😃 such a great game.
I'm not a fan of Earthworm Jim, never have been, it does absolutely nothing for me but I concede that it is a really well made and original game that most will find to be awesome. I really like your videos and often agree with you, but I feel you could probably apply that logic to Yars Revenge and acknowledge that it's far from the worst game on this collection.
@jondixon4937 I just can't get into Yars Revenge, but I appreciate what it is. It's weird sometimes when I game I thought id be really into i just don't feel much for. But I know I'm defo in the minority with that choice.
@GreatScott. I totally get that. I always like to think of the evercade as a museum of video game history. So it has the games that were there at the start and for quiet a few. Me in some cases they are interesting and a curiosity but not something you necessarily will keep going back to. It's still cool they are there though.
A debunking and dismissal of Yar's Revenge: BOLD MOVE.
@@Da4Ying3 haha it just doesn't hold my interest for long 🤣

@hjk7833 I play it the least, I don't have much interest in putting it on compared to other games on the cart. It's as simple as that.
Another great video. Thanks

Yar's Revenge at 20! You must have been playing it on the Super Pocket or had one too many sherries ;-) Keep up the awesome work Steve!
@jayme69 i knew I'd get stick for it 🤣🤣 you know, sometimes my tastes are a bit weird 🤣 but I have to be honest.
@aboyandhisdogRE I'll let you off as you had Centipede & Millipede in your Top 3 :-)
@jayme69 my subs have even gone down by a few, first time in ages 🤣 I've really hit a nerve with this one 🤣

You can't get several of these games on any other current collection.

I love retro games but feel sometimes the early atari games that they include for evercade are too basic and don't hold my attention
