I wonder if your supply power wire to your switch fuel heater is big enough or has enough amps Maybe a relay or use a starter solenoid to get the amps you need for that
Hey un-related, has Kevin started accepting applications to his charity equipment painting give away where he paints clapped out equipment out of the kindness of his heart? Or was that a scam message I received.
Good point Clint. The test set-up worked fine, but perhaps the additional length of wire for the dash switch might need a bit of a boost. The starter solenoid idea would definitely provide the additional amps and larger supply line would increase the current flow rate.👌

Well Mike. as has been commented on numerous times through out this series of videos on this backhoe.., I personally would have pulled all my hair out by now, and had many a conversation with my Jesus. However if you do get upset., we viewers don’t see it., and I doubt that you do. As a longtime viewer of yours I don’t get the impression that it is in you. Harkening back to your river drone flights., if you did become frustrated beyond belief., just a look out over that river in the back ground., would probably reset everything back to calmness. I am envious of your river view. Great video(s), Thank you sir.
The 120 for the Ford 555! Hell, I'd take that deal.😁😁 Mike, you know that Mike is into old vehicles as well. And just think, you would not have to fix the Radiator, and everything else that is over 50 years old on it! Then you could reclassify this video with your trade up series!
When you take it out on that first project. It'll all be worth it. I'm glad you didn't throw that bolt as far as you could. Or maybe you did, and you throw like a infant!

I have a 1966 ford 4400 with loader and backhoe. You will enjoy her, I have done things with my unit I couldn’t imagine. I got mine cheap knowing I would have time and material in it. But, like yours, it is for the farm and not a production excavating company. Even counting my time I am still of 10k under a newer “good condition” machine and can fix anything on it. I have really enjoyed the series.
Like you said, you bought in cheep and new ya had issues. That’s going to be a great machine when you get the bugs out of her. Your attitude and patience are the most important tools you have. Great job!

Your commentary is absolutely hilarious. Me being a farm and construction equipment mechanic. I feel the pain. LoL. Keep up the videos you make me and I am sure other people laugh.
About the intake manifold heater - was there still fuel in the line leading to the heater? You said the tube acted as a reservoir. I'm wondering if you drained that when you first lit it, then when you tried again there wasn't any fuel left in the tubing to feed the fire (since I didn't see you start it between the two tries, which would have refilled the tubing). Great project, great score. I like your take it slow, validate that the investment is worth it before moving to the next phase. Whare you are now it looks like a total winner.
Finding that everything is mechanically functional was such a major encouragement. That was awesome. You seemed a little more chipper today, I was glad to see that. Thanks for all the hard work.
To activate the intake heater on my 555B I turn the key counter clockwise a little bit till you hear the flame and then further CCW and engage the starter.
I think you are Golden Mike, that Ole’ Girl wants to Dig. Keep the Engine Cool and Once the Weakest Hydraulic Lines Show themselves you will have a solid Machine. For Sure, they’re not making them like that anymore. I appreciate you having us Along, I’ll catch you on the next one. Keep It Safe Out There Sir
Regarding pre-heater, they are a bit finicky. On my perkins it will only give flame as long as it has oxygen. With the intake tubes all buttoned up it wont continuously heat unless you periodically in my case crank a couple revolutions to draw oxygen in and displace some warm air between cylinders i do this three or four times then i commit to a full crank. Freezing temp and below i still plug in block heater and use a heat gun. Be careful using starting fluid if that heater is on. Really enjoying watching the 555 breath life again👍
👍 Wow, that pre-heater looking like an absolute must. Good thing is that once you have it all together you'll know what you got so trouble shooting in the future will be much easier, takes a lot of stuff out of the equation. Good work.
I’ve found over my 40+ years in the industry that I prefer everything to show up within the first few hours so when I did use it for the first time I could spend all the time I wanted and really get to enjoy it rather than a prolonged period and still not using it. Looking good. Your almost there.
Wonder of wonders; IT'S ALIVE. You are nothing but persistent and that is a great advantage, you stayed with it, figured out what may be wrong, tackled it and made it happen. Love what you have done on the 555. Heat, everything, including you needs heat.
Stay positive, your making progress and making me laugh. Make your extra dashboard hole the same size as a electrical box plug and paint it yellow, that will help keep the flying critters from making a nest in dashboard. Keep up the good work can’t wait for next video!!
I like that you take everything in stride and keep going without getting discouraged. You have good support with Clinton and Mike as far as advice goes. Keep it up.
It's getting better ...get you a heavy piece or two of angle iron or channel to put on the lift cylinders to safety work with the loader in the air. P.S. if u filled the radiator all the way to the top it will leak out the over flow hose when it gets warm....yes two carriage bolts on bottom of rad...pita to get loose
good video Captain, as you did, really thought was going to dig today. oh well you new to job was dangerous when you took it, bak bak bak. hahahhahahaha (do you are any of your viewers know where that phrase comes from.) as work continues on the 555, just remember when you do start to use it. you will be able to have longer use time. as with anything used you have to work the bugs out of it, and you seem to have the right attitude. And if it was easy everybody would do it, when all is said and done you will have a good piece of equipment for the farm/homestead and you will know what you have.
I never knew the different problems people have living in the cold north. No wonder as soon as they're able, they come down here to Florida in the winter. 58 this morning and a high of 79 today, just perfect.
By the time you get everything working you will be an expert on the 555, keep going and you will have yourself a great backhoe. Love watching you work and the positive attitude. 👍
Once everything is fixed you will have a decent machine. At least now you know it is worth to invest in parts to get it fixed. The most expensive stuff like gearbox and hydraulic pump are working.
Just as a look into what you have done engine rebuild wise, run it some more, and remove the oil filter and cut it open, remove the pleated center. Cut the pleats so you can open them up like an accordion. What is contained in the pleats will give you a look into what is going on inside. Fairley clean with some minor debris would be normal. Lots of fine metal could be there from not thoroughly cleaning the parts and pieces, or the bearings are getting scarred. Lots of fine metal and lots of larger pieces of metal would indicate to stop and evaluate further. Look at a filter on anything you change oil on will give you insite into the health of your engines.
Love the video, my thought is that with engine hours the engine has lost some compression, and it may addicted to ether. A new battery may give you faster engine turn over speed. Good luck.
Hey, welcome to the channel, I would encourage you to check out the playlist which shows the in-frame rebuild we just did with new pistons and new rings. This engine has a total of 2 hours on the rebuild. You would also see where we purchased a brand new battery for the tractor as well. Thanks for watching
Love the channel, your backhoe project is like my excavator project love to get my hands dirty to bring something back working condition. My Komatsu PC40-5 is my toy, wife refers to it as my piece of junk.
This reminds me of something I did over 30 years ago. I bought a Ferguson 30 tractor that had been burned no rubber was left no wires just the metal. It was bought for 25.00 a friend hauled it home for me . I bought new ignition parts wires and plugs . A used 8 volt battery from junk yard. Put some gas in it and it started up and ran fine. Found some used tires and worked with it for several years then sold it for $800.00. Don't give up you will dig with that old iron
Thanks for another great update you're still doing good, if you end up in it for around double your purchase price. The last backhoe loader I bought I kept for our farm, I think I gave $5500 for it in an auction in 2016 or 17. With things it needed to get it working right with a good service, replace a hydraulic cylinder rod, seals, new hoses and oil it's needed since buying it I've got about $10000 total in it. I had offers to sell it for that, it might sit 6 to 8 months and not move but the day I need it it's there and paid for. I'm not loosing money on it, Or hiring somebody to do the work if they'd even bother turning up, if I called them for smaller jobs . Take care.
Like you done a great job on working on the back of keep up the good work with it and don't worry about what other people have to say I will make a suggestion to you though in on that heater switch that you put in I know it's a push button but I would also think you should put a idiot light in there so that you know that the power is going down to the heater just a suggestion okay this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida get the radiator fixed put it back together and hope that that water pump works and yes I would get your alternator checked out okay God bless have a great day happy holidays and stay safe to you and your family
Heck I learned my 3910 ford has the thermo start from this. Also found out it doesn't work either lol. Act like I didn't see anything and starts fine down to around 10 degrees or so with out it. You'll get it straightened out and will be well worth it in the end
The ign. switch should turn to the left to activate the manifold heater. Later switches turned to the right and had two spring loaded positions; heat then heat start.
Be careful with that first (non-swivel) ratchet, I've got one just like it, but if I put it down somewhere, then look for it, the thing has somehow moved into another dimension or something. It usually teleports back after I spent 30 minutes looking for it, often, somewhere entirely different from where I put it down. Just a caution note.🤪 Nice work on getting that old backhoe running, looks like you're very close. Thanks for the video!
And never ever let the Mrs put it away because 1 - it'll be in a place you'll never think of looking and 2 - once she tells you where she put it she'll never let you forget how she helped you *ever* 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wrong...13 mm . Is a cursed number after all. No matter how much 13mm spanners you have, you will always lost them all. It's a curse that comes with the wrench I guess
looking great, I do understand more time then money built my 46 chevy truck on the same lines. But like any older rebuild it does take time and thought and the experience you gain will pay off in the future. Great Job
I wonder if your supply power wire to your switch fuel heater is big enough or has enough amps

Don't give up you will dig with that old iron
another brilliant day and a few finds along the way. well done captain she will be fine. cheers.
Thanks!
Awesome I'm going to check into getting my intake heater working 💪
You are bringing the beauty out of the old girl.
Correct
@@philhunt9297 👆True statement.
10mm are the worst for that!
@@hermanschepers4739 Never met a female called 10mm - you got any pics 🤣🤣
Wrong...13 mm . Is a cursed number after all. No matter how much 13mm spanners you have, you will always lost them all. It's a curse that comes with the wrench I guess
Keep at it and you will have a good machine. Good luck. while you have the exhaust manifold off, heat the bolts and remove the pipe from the manifold.
Not worth it
Thanks for another great video captain
Thanks for watching
I’m ready to see you get that machine in the dirt as well
💪
I just love it when you get sooooo excited over 3 lights working - there is hope for us all yet - keep them coming😊
It's one less thing I have to problem solve.
looking great, I do understand more time then money built my 46 chevy truck on the same lines. But like any older rebuild it does take time and thought and the experience you gain will pay off in the future. Great Job
💪
i had a pre heat issue with the johndeer so i did the same thing... works great.... I hope it does not melt the rubber connector.
Good afternoon Captain!!
You have got to have the most optimistic attitude that I have ever seen.
Keep up the great work and stay safe.
This radiator removal tops a Case .Good video.
