If you were a farmer you would do back breaking work, only to see the king tax your crops and leave you with scraps to feed your family. We are telling you, you wouldn't be able to handle it.

I always roll my eyes whenever I see most people romanticizing past ages and wish they lived back then. Yes, enjoy your poor medical, easily treated diseases, serfdom, peasantry, and misery(not counting survival experts though).
I think people romanticize it because they don’t have purpose here whereas in medieval times, you’re forced into purpose: whether that be to survive (most likely) or rule
But on the other hand they didn’t have the pollution, environmental damage, nuclear threat, and GMO infested food we’re eating.
The romanticized versions usually include prosperous lands with magic, perpetuated with roughly the same social structure except with a less squalid peasant life, along with the middle class existing, in the form of adventurers.

Living in modern day Scotland has given me an appreciation for how my ancestors had to survive. Winter lasts months, rain, gale force winds all the time, barely any sun.
I can't even imagine what it was like to live in parts of Russia/Scandinavia in these Medieval days.

This version of medieval life seems to be an amalgam of the worst parts of life pulled from every medieval culture from the entire 1,500 year period.
The timespan is more like a 1000 years. The movies perhaps make you think it wasn't that bad... but it sure was horrible.
The way most of these vids describe medieval times, it makes it seem like a miracle anyone survived and those that did lived purely on luck. I'm sure life wasnt any worse then it is today, because no one would know any other way and by comparison to their past, life would actually be better.

That is also a reason why people hated them. They had less desease. Also it is easy to understand that it was much more hard work to survive than nowadays.

But Jews were officially protected by the Church who put a lot of resources into combatting anti-jewish thought, for various mainly economical reasons. And as a result the overall opinion of jews during the middle ages was large periods of indifference seperated by short periods of intense persecution.
I recommend the book The Proud Villeins by Valerie Anand. It's so under-rated! In fact, I wish the whole Bridges Over Time series would be adapted for TV; The Proud Villeins begins in 1066, and The Dowerless Sisters (the 6th, final book) ends in the 1960s.

There were A LOT of rules and laws NOT to carry a sword in town. Knives were carried sure but it's not that different from current days.
Also swords were really expensive, only rich folk had swords in the early/mid medieval times.
Armies had to often be disbanded for the harvest and planting seasons for food production and sometimes for winter too to conserve the food.
Peasants were usually supposed to bring their own equipment when drafted. Arming an army was expensive and would the lords want to do that when they could save the money to build a stone castle.

They had guns back then, in the form of hand cannons, but they didn't start to be common till the late 15th century. Plus one gun vs a volley of arrows wont help much

One gun vs an army 2000 men strong... Not even with 2 million bullets would you beat them. Unless they neatly line up to get shot one at a time from more than 100 meters away.
Basically, you'd get off a few hundred rounds at best before they run you into the ground and then examine your gun and invent modern firearms in the 16th century.

This appears to be more realistic than I thought, still there's one major flaw: Your immune system isn't adapted to a rough world and life like that at all. You may be vaccinated against many diseases that rumble across the lands, but there might also be some that got extinct in the modern world, to them you'd be extremely vulnerable. Also, if you weren't hitting the gym three times a week or having a very physically hard job, you wouldn't be fit enough for efficiently doing many of the tasks presented in this example.
Me for example: I know loads of stuff about medieval times in Europe, but I get sick every two weeks and don't lift, so I'd probably die of some sickness after short time.

Well, in the late medieval period, such things actually did appear on markets, through "colonization", crusades and trade. Pineapples, for instance, were a valuable thing in English markets in Stuart times.

Imagine being from an advanced era but not knowing how to build a computer, program, build rockets to launch satellites, and creating wireless radio waves.
I've played sneak archer in skyrim enough along with enough recroom archery experience to handle myself (I've actually made an attachment that adds resistance,not as much,but some)
Conscripted soldiers even peasants were almost ALWAYS given some form armour. It might be a gambison but that was actually decent armor. It would take a few sword swings in the same area to get through.

Care to explain
I would love to see a film about a time traveller who has to become a medieval peasant. After a few years getting used to it and maybe finding a wife, he is drafted into the army. For his heroism in a battle or two, he gets knighted and maybe saves the king's life so he gives him a keep or a holdfast. Over time he keeps on winning battles and is a general on the same level of Napoleon in terms of tactical genius. Eventually, calls grow for him to claim the crown as king as the most popular lord in the land and a powerful army loyal to him. Kind of like Gladiator but maximus takes the deal to become emperor. From rags to king.

Thats not a HALBERD. A halberd is a spear with an axe head.
The most common used weapons where spears and polearms, the other weapons need a bit of training to use, greatsword users where first liners that where getting a double pay, better armoured because they had to deal and and possibly cut these spears shaft.

Yeah I thought so too!....medieval periods means humans were better at civilization than in the previous eras and they knew not to defecate etc near their water source or whole villages would die of disease...without access to basic clean water, pretty much everybody would have died (including kings, nobles etc)..

To be honest americans came from Europe mostly, so they were doing the same thing the video is showing. Native Americans were mostly dead, an average American has more DNA in common with Europeans than with native Americans.

Also, European migration to the Americas only started AFTER the 1500s, when the Medieval Period ended. Most historians place the last major events in the Medieval Era were The Fall of Constantinople in 1453, the Fall of Granda and he Discovery of America by Columbus in 1492. So, the Europeans who went in America weren't middle ages people anymore !
