    If anyone's interested, there's a channel called Tasting History where he makes and tries all these types of ancient foods. He gave up a job offer at Disney for us, so i felt like I owed him a shoutout for his sacrifice.

      @@demarcusfaulkner7411 Systems and things that seemed forever can change. Feudalism, monarchy, and eventually, capitalism. At minimum, the current form of capitalism. Just like after WW2 and rise of communism there was massive shifts to a more social democratic order, which eventually shifted into a neoliberal order and the current ills of today (albeit there’s always been flaws)
      Social democracy can satiate most workers (think of how FDR in the US led to many socialists feeling that was an alternative) but the capitalists of today are too aggressive and unwilling in most nations, and so they’ll push workers until they go the extra mile. And even FDR was almost coup d'etat by a group of wealthy fascists, who made the mistake of reaching out to a general that was an anti-capitalist anti-imperialist, despite being the most decorated of his time, he knew first hand the evils of and being a gangster for capitalism (Smedley Butler is his name)
      “We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.”

    Fun fact: pasteies were so popular because they were easy to prepare for three meals. There was a variation with 'three pockets' that more or less were folded and sectioned off into breakfast, lunch, and dinner portions which could easily be broken off for each meals on the go. They were also handy because they were easy to carry in just cloth as the bread protected the contents inside and they were also good for using 'leftovers' as not to waste food. They were essentially ye olde Hot Pockets.

      Fruit and meat happens even in my country, I only find it acceptable with apples or quinces but I know many who loves beef with canned sour cherries... And most sour cherries are quite sweet and typically more sugar is added when canned.

      Most people died at 35 so diabetes and heart disease and cancer wasn't a big issue.
      Most died frominfection and diseases which we forget were deadly but now thanks to vaccines and modern science are not a big deal

    Thing is when speaking about the people hunting for their own food, most monarchies of the middle ages outlawed hunting for anyone who wasn't part of the nobility and maybe of the clergy (but they had their own land for that if they wanted).
    People still did it but if they got caught they could very well be executed for it, which is pretty dissuasive

    Could you imagine trying everything to provide the freshest of meats to your customers only to get decapitated by some dude on a horse with a pike because their kid caught salmonella and died from your "fresh and good meat"

    • @goodluckgoofy3354
      @goodluckgoofy3354 ปีที่แล้ว

      Decipated? Are you trying to say decapitated? You can't decapitate someone with a pike. A pike is a thrusting, stabbing, tearing weapon. You could possibly disembowel someone, but decapitation? Not unless you have a lot of time and they agree not to move. 😂

    Aside from undercooked and spoiled meat, meat pies don't sound that bad for you. Sure these people had tons of carbs and salts in their bodies but with all their physical labor, they probably worked off most of the carbs and calories.

    In the middle ages, there used to be communal ovens that people could use. IDK if there was a tax to use it or not, but it's pretty cool to think of it as an early form of socialism.

    • @SelfProclaimedEmperor
      @SelfProclaimedEmperor ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that was socialism, it was communal in name only, it was owned usually by a baker and he would charge a small rent to use it.
