      Best part of that game! 😁

    I have played every game mentioned here and still have two cities on Nile Online (based off of Children of the Nile). I also remember playing "Atlantis" in the late 2000s which was like an expansion / DLC to Zeus. It was a few more missions added to Zeus with a focus on Poseidon, the Atlantis myth and added Orichalcum as a resource. The maps were oddly a little smaller and the buildings took a tiny bit more space than Zeus. It had some challenge and there were 'sandbox' play scenarios added to Zeus at some point so that one could just finish the scenario and keep playing (like Emperor).
    Loved this video essay and a few others that I have been watching on your channel. Great to see you covering games from the city-building genre.
    If you haven't heard of it somehow or have not yet given it a try, please do a series or maybe one video covering 'Lords and Villeins'.

      Still playing Nile Online, noyce! 😁 Hadn't heard about Lords and Villeins, but it looks like a nice Rimworldy thing, certainly wishlisted!

      It was called Poseidon: Master of Atlantis actually. I know because I once got the Great Empires Collection 2 at a bargain store with Pharaoh and Cleopatra, Zeus and Poseidon and Caesar III (I mostly played Zeus and Poseidon while my mom played Pharaoh and Cleopatra). I didn't even know there was a Caesar IV until recently. Also Zeus + Poseidon (as it's listed) is on Steam (for some reason it won't work if you don't install it on the C drive though). (Also RIP Hades, Zeus' other brother)

      @@MattwosRandomNonContent Yes, that is the one. I never played it as much as Zeus just because of the smaller map size with larger buildings.

      @@arjunsatheesh7609 You mean the Atlantean pyramids? Also did you know orichalcum is actually brass? LOL

    • @arjunsatheesh7609
      @arjunsatheesh7609 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattwosRandomNonContent Not the pyramids per se. Every building had a larger footprint. The storehouse / granary equivalent in Poseidon or the theatre equivalent (can't remember in-game names) were all larger than Zeus.
      I have read the theories about orichalcum but it being 'mined' has made me think that it is probably some noble metal and not a metal alloy like brass/bronze but then there are other descriptions of it being 'white copper' and being produced like alloys.
      Anyway, it was an interesting expansion for Zeus.

    18:38 Not in Zeus & Poseidon because you need culture or science to max out your houses and those buildings can get a _bit_ large... Especially in Poseidon... (Bibliothekes and Collages + Podiums are really a last resort measure)

  • @MattwosRandomNonContent
    @MattwosRandomNonContent ปีที่แล้ว +1

    19:19 Wonder if there'll be a mod like that for Zeus and Poseidon, all I could find was an HD resolution mod (which is a good mod to have but still).... Maybe Hades will finally have his chance to shine?

    15:59 This did not age well. The known issues list pinned on the Steam forum is over a paragraph long even right now.

    City caravans to manage your goods? Planning the route for your bazaar worker?! That's brilliant and absolutely solves the issues with nourishing your city!
    Can we hopefully see these features in Pharaoh New Era? Eeehh, I doubt it =/ Though I have no idea if they're adding any features in a remake.

    • @Hexaboo
      @Hexaboo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None of this will show up in PNE. In terms of game mechanics, PNE will only include a few optional features from later games (like common labour pool) and Augustus. Plus a few quality-of-life things, like showing where the walker enters and leaves the building as you place it.
      In any case, Chad is already there, with all of the cool new mechanics in it. And there has been a lot of new content made and announced for it since I made this video 😁

    Do you really think Emperor is the best of the series?
    I tried to play it, but stopped at the very beginning, when they explained feng shui, and showed the corresponding overlay. I'm colorblind and I could not see the difference between, what I assume was green for high feng shui et orange for low feng shui. But if you tell me that we can totally ignore that, maybe I'll give it another try.

    • @RagnarNidhoggr
      @RagnarNidhoggr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you absolutely can, the bonuses you get from feng shui are minor. generally, the rule is: don't build houses next to rocks, build industry next to rocks; that should be enough for you to never have to majorly bother with feng shui

    • @Hexaboo
      @Hexaboo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You really don't need it. I didn't even know the bit Ragnar mentioned about what to build next to rocks, and I've completed the game a few times, on hard difficulty, it's that irrelevant 😅

    • @Hexaboo
      @Hexaboo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And I totally believe Emperor is the best in the series. It's the most polished one of the classic designs and has excellent theming on par with Pharaoh. The only reason it's less known is probably because it's largely more of the same (those games kept coming out year after year), and Ancient Egypt has more cachet with western audiences than Ancient China does.

    Caesar3, for those who do not know. Roadblocks = Gate Houses, stop complaining.

      @Morgan Allen and I believed they would teach everything in the Pharaoh Remake and nah it is stil a pain for newcomers.
