Fantastic video , thanks for posting it , ive been to malta twice and love it I would of loved it even more if when I was there seen this sight . Thats why I like going to Gibraltar and staying at rock hotel because you can be lucky and see the ships coming in or going out of the harbour .

Malta what a fine place with great people there! Was there several times undertaking a major refit on a boat/ship/mega-yacht in the Paola area and staying in a flat/appartment in the Marsaxlokk area just across from the Power Station, some really good and happy memories of the island. I did hire a wee car on the few weekends I was off to see more of Malta visiting those places off the beaten track so to speak. Meeting locals and enjoying or supporting local restaurants, bars & shops enjoying real Maltese hospitality and reading up on the islands history including Convoy Santa Maria. Maybe soon I will visit again and see alot more of Malta, rent a secluded place this time for a month or two where I can enjoy fishing, swimming, snorkelling/scuba diving and local cuisine along with wines, beers or spirits - who knows I might even find myself a fine Maltese Wife or two if only! Malta is a very beautiful place.

Yes it is. The original HMS Illustrious limped into Grand Harbour for repairs during WW2, and this led to ten days of intense bombing intended to sink her in harbour. Thanks to the heroic anti-aircraft defences, and Maltese dockyard workers working rnon-stop under fire, she sailed out after ten days. During these ten days, the Axis bombers totally missed the Illustrious and devastated the three cities - Cospicua ( Bormla), Senglea (l-Isla) and Vittoriosa (Birgu) - and also Valletta.

No it hasn't. It's just sailed up the River Thames in London to celebrate the Battle of the Atlantic...and I saw it at the weekend. Perhaps you're thinking of Invincible?

It's being decommissioned in 2014, and will then be a museum ship.

its going to be nice to see this ship live on as a permanent piece of British history, to educate people for generation to come, but its going to be a hell of a long wait until the queen Elizabeth class carriers come along

Unfortunately that's just a cunning ruse for when they have the AIS Tracker turned off so no one knows its true position, but will visit Malta a lot in the future.

Would rather British return with Mountbatten than Russians. Has architecture changed since independence.
