@@PNWTraveler the 30 does fine in wet grass. It will clog like any other mower but If I start out with a clean deck in the morning I can get through the whole day of mowing wet grass in the rain bagging. Here’s a link to a video I did mowing wet grass when I got the mower. th-cam.com/video/TH2RU1eEZ14/w-d-xo.html
Yes I know I was going too fast. That’s why I don’t mulch client lawns. It takes far too long to match the clean look of bagging. This was really to show how well the mower does in extreme conditions. Thanks for watching.
Ok, Thanks for the tip. I use the gator blades on my Turf Tracer. They work great. Especially during leaf season. For lawn mowing though, I don’t mulch very much if ever. This video was more because people kept asking me to do a video on the mulching performance of the mower. Thanks for watching.
Good review, lots of information I was looking for but the one key piece at the end was how does it compare to the HRC216 in mulching applications? Do you prefer the Exmark or Honda for mulching and why? Yes, I know that you primarily bag due to cut quality at a higher speed (part of the good information in the review) but I don't think I'll be bagging a lot of grass until I can get a dump truck (way too much labor and time and trips to the dump in my standard 8" truck bed). I need to know the bottom line, Exmark or Honda for mulching a why? Thanks!
Yes I don’t mulch often so it’s hard for me to say. I’ve never put them side by side in a comparison. Maybe a good future video. The Honda comes with a twin stacked blade design so that might be better for mulching I’d assume. Thanks for watching.
Why mulch an overgrown lawn? It seriously hurts my soul when I see the clippings clump up. An overgrown lawn should either be bagged or side discharged. Nothing against you as I assume you’re just showing the mowers capabilities.
I agree. This was for testing purposes only. I rarely ever mulch. I know it’s healthy for the lawn but I prefer the cleaner cut look from bagging the grass clippings. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess I agree but unfortunately many municipalities are no longer collecting grass clippings and thus forcing you to mulch or side discharge. This might be fine when the grass is growing at a normal rate but in the spring when the grass is wet and thick and growing rapidly, bagging is often the better option. I also don't really subscribe to the "mulching is healthier" notion. I have been mowing lawns as a side hustle for 25 years. I always noticed that if you continually mulch and don't allow those clippings a sufficient time to decompose, the lawns actually don't grow that well and seem to be suffocating. In contrast, when you bag, especially with a high lift blade and high blade tip speed mower like your Exmark, the grass seems to breathe and grow better. The best practice for me has been to mulch one week and bag the next. Others will disagree but that's been my observation. By the way, try the 21" commercial toro for mulching....fantastic due to the deck shape being more conducive to mulching. Your exmark has the bubble shape deck which is better for bagging.
I always bag all my lawns. It’s what is normally done here. I leave the clippings in the green bin that the city provides each house and picks up every week on garbage day. Some guys will put it in the truck and haul it to the dump. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess did you use the high lift blade to mulch? I have an Ariens LM21S and if I try mulch with the highlift blade it does exactly what was going on in your video. It would "bog down" a bit because all it's doing is jamming the clippings up in the deck until they can finally drop down in mushy clumps in the corners. You need a mulching blade which has an inverted airfoil on the inside of the blade to drive the clippings down. Ideally you need the full mulch kit which I bet Exmark doesn't sell, which is plastic dome that goes inside the deck to convert it into a bowl shape to create the correct air circulation.
I am shocked that bagging is preferred over mulching. To be sure when the grass is longer bagging is necessary. On my personal lawn I cut more often using the mulch feature virtually all of the time. My grass grows far faster and lusher than any of the lawns that are bagged. I realize that in commercial operations it is not realistic to be mowing 2-3 times a week from a customer cost point of view but if a healthy lawn is the long term goal more frequent mowing and mulching is the way to go.
The Honda HRC216 hax commercial wouldn't even bog down or clump up grass..Return that exmark. Get the best lawnmower witch is the Honda HRC216 hax is the best..
Except the Honda won’t run in the rain without removing the gas cap to vent the tank, it leaves corn rows of uncut grass, tires wear out within a year, self propel ratchets in the wheels stop working, won’t bag grass properly without removing the top blade and so on and so on. I’ve used plenty of the commercial Honda’s for 12 years in my business. Still have two of them. You can watch my video I did on a long term review of the Honda mowers and the issues I’ve had. Thanks for watching.
I been cutting grass since 6 years old. Exmark,Toro are only good site down lawnmower for commercial cutting your old school football field. I remember seeing that the toro blades going down to cut the the football field badass lawn mower...its just my personal opinion for the honda HRC216. Never let me down like the rest
Leave a comment down below and let me know if you have used the Exmark Commercial 21 to mulch lawn clippings in your lawn care business.
You should try a Scag 21 inch 224 cc.
your podcast is great, just found your TH-cam channel!
Hey thanks for listening to the podcast. Glad you enjoy it, and welcome to the channel.
It works great
Yes it does. 😂 Thanks for watching.
How does the exmark 30 inch mower mulch?
Here’s a link to the mulching test video I did for the commercial 30. Thanks for watching.

Got my first one this week, like it so far but I really like the 30 " better
Yeah I agree. I just got a 30 for the first time a few weeks ago and it’s awesome. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess How well does the 30" do in wet grass? And does it have a side chute? Thanks?

Do u guys have the 30 inch hdx or just the regular. I know the hdx has a bigger transmission I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it.
Do the wheels on this have ball bearings?
Yes I believe they do. Thanks for watching.
2 things the bbc saps power and you were mowing 2 fast for those conditions on the first lawn. not a fan of the single speed trans on these

if you mulch, you should use gator blades. the only blades worth mulching with.

The toro 21 commercial mulchs alot better then the exmark
That’s interesting. I thought they were virtually the same mower. This did pretty good for a single blade. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess The Toro has kickers in the deck that help with circulation and returning the grass to the ground.
Now that you have got to use this mower, you need to do a video comparing this to you previous Honda hrc216
I recently did review videos on both those mowers and talked about some of the comparisons. Thanks for watching.
