Adis and Apatanis of Arunachal signs a historic joint declaration amidst the presence of CM Pema Khandu, Home Minister Mama Natung and others
    #pasighatnews
PASIGHAT, Jan 19: “Today, we are not just marking a summit of two communities; we are witnessing the triumph of unity, understanding, and a commitment to preserving the age-old fabric of communal harmony that has long been the cornerstone of Arunachal Pradesh's rich cultural mosaic,” said Chief Minister Pema Khandu while attending the Adi-Apatani Summit 2025 and signing of a joint declaration by Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) and Tanii Supun Dukun (TSD), the apex body of the Adi and Apatani communities respectively here today at Giidii Notko (general festival ground), Pasighat.
Highlighting that the Adis and Apatanis, though geographically distinct and with separate traditions, Khandu pointed that both the communities have long shared a bond one that transcends political boundaries and finds its roots in their common ancestry, dating back to the times of Abotani.
He, however, observed that in the modern era, differences whether small or large have the potential to flare up into conflicts if not vigilant. “We cannot afford to let petty misunderstandings or rumours disrupt the harmony that has been carefully nurtured over generations. Instead, we must face these challenges with maturity, understanding, and mutual respect,” Khandu said. He hailed the ABK and TSD for setting a remarkable example for the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh. By coming together and signing this historic Joint Declaration, he said, both communities have reaffirmed their commitment to peace, unity, and the continued well-being of their people.
“This declaration is not just a piece of paper, it is a living, breathing testament to the enduring values of love, respect, and mutual trust that have defined both the Adi and Apatani cultures for generations,” he added. The resolutions set clear principles for peaceful co-existence and the preservation of communal harmony.
“The decision to jointly condemn and discourage any communal disputes or violence whether arising from personal issues or otherwise demonstrates the maturity and wisdom of both communities,” Khandu said. The resolutions strictly prohibit traditional revenge systems and promote inter-tribe marriages, cultural exchanges, and festivals.
“I applaud the efforts of the community leaders, the ABK, and the TSD for their vision and commitment to creating a stronger, more cohesive Arunachal Pradesh. It is through such acts of collective leadership that we can build a future free from fear and division,” the Chief Minister said.````````````````````
Khandu also lauded the TSD for being the pioneer in this direction for signing the first such declaration with the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) way back in 2015. He said that with the 2015 declaration in place, both the Nyishi and Apatani communities are developing and flourishing today in an environment of peace and mutual understanding.
Khandu observed that in a state as diverse as Arunachal Pradesh, with over 26 major tribes and numerous sub-tribes, the need for mutual understanding and cooperation is greater than ever before.
While Home Minister, Mama Natung termed the Adi- Apatani summit as an exemplary initiative that should also be emulated by other community based organizations adding that such efforts for bridging communities and fostering goodwill and mutual understanding is in line with the vision of Team Arunachal and EK Bharat and Shrestha Bharat and join together in fight against drug abuse to protect the future generations. He also encouraged inter-tribe marriage between Adis, Apatanis and Nyishis and others for better inter-community mutual co-existence.
Meanwhile Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao while lauding the initiative said that the implementation of the Summit Declaration will really reap benefits in shaping the visions and goals at the grass-root. Minister RD and Panchayati Raj, OjingTasing also said that both the communities have a lot to learn and share with each other in various fields.
President Mishmi Welfare Society as special guest on the day, Matheim Linggi, termed the initiative inspiring for other communities to build a Pan-Arunachal entity through the spirit of brotherhood and amity. And Ziro MLA, Hage Appa in his speech also termed the occasion to be marked in golden letters, the legacy of which should be carried forward by the youth and the future generations.
Chairman, Adi-Apatani Summit Organizing Committee, Oki Dai, earlier extended the welcome address to the gathering. The other highlights of the historic occasion were flag hoisting of respective apex body flags by both the presidents of ABK and TSD followed by ABK and TSD anthem songs, presentation of brief historical and prelude of the Joint Declaration by President TSD H.K Shalla, presentation of cultural items, and unity dance by ABK-TSD and community lunch.

CM of Arunachal Pradesh has spoken that the construction of Siang dam multipurpose project is for the interest of Adi people. How the dam is benefited to the Adi people, this 100℅ wrong. Hence the CM of Arunachal Pradesh has said that, the mighty Siang river will dry, if the china government build Mega dam at Tibet, this is too wrong, because the Siang will never dry, he is befooling people of Adi of siang district as wel as to all down stream. If anything happen the pssighat area shall certainly be wash away. All pssighat people be remember and ready to face the future serious Devastation.

China can divert the flow of the river to other places if they want to. Have you not seen news of water scarcity due to the dams ? Building a dam in the Tsangpo river is a strategy of China to take control of India's foreign policy. Do you think China will show mercy on us ? If you think then don't have expectations from them. Let's have trust in our leaders. That's all I can say.

final assesment can take place only after survey but there much be an approximate estimation. Adi community is an agrarian based culture since time immemorial which is reflected in their festivals, believe, faiths, customs, traditions etc. They are also proud of their rich cultural heritages which reflects in their beliefs and faiths infact, like other indigenous communities of Arunachal pradesh Adi society and community are also one of the most forward looking indigeneous people living in Arunachal pradesh pradesh, therefore government must ensure that this dam project on siang river donot jeopardize this rich cultural heritages of people living in the siang river valley at the cost of so called multi purpose dam. we know how a small air gun culture have ruin the entire eco system of the area,it is sad and devastating that no happy birds chirping can be heard from the entire foothills to the chinese border, effecting a serious environmental consequences in the future which is even obvious today also.who manufacture this useless gun for what purpose, it is ironic that the government produce this guns but wants to protect the wildlife. so what grantee the government provide in this dam project that will benefits the people is of doubtful nature.

Other than being a Tani Clans , these two communities share nothing in common . I don't know what could be the objective of such initiative
