- French harpist Sylvain Blassel gives the world-premiere recording, note for note, unarranged, of the Goldberg Variations on a vintage Erard harp of 1904.

I am a simple, very poor, shanty, Irish-Catholic American. My education is not too great, and my job is low and unprestigious, but this makes me see the stars and moonlight more clearly. I love this beyond my words.

I can hear why the Erard was the chosen instrument. Unlike most contemporary harps it has a really clear, resonant bass timbre and such a beautiful clarity. So many modern instruments have a muddy, indistinct bass. Of course Mr Blassel also brings the best out of this georgous instrument with a sublime performance. Wonderful stuff.

Just enjoying this again - I've commented before on how wonderful this is, but lovely also to see a harpist playing without a score in front of them. You can only do that when you have fully internalised the music. Nice, unobtrusive video production too.

impressive technique - right on!
He plays beautifully but there's more. The rapid notes are exquisitely expressed and melodiously shaped but behind that, the gentle swaying of the harp and his body also portrays the more gradual underlying harmonic rhythms of key changes. This is a real musician who can hear and build inspiration on his knowledge!

Finally a piece on TH-cam where I do not feel a harp being used for somehing not suitable for this instrument. Here one can really enjoy the soft celestial sounds this instrument can make. Each note and harmony is a gem here.

What a beautifully executed technique he has! This is one of the most musical performances of Bach I've ever heard. This speaks magnificently for the French style of harp performance.

Comparing a Harp with a different instrument that also is a Harp. It 's surprising to notice that the Goldberg Variations - composed by Johann Sebastian Bach - are brilliant to be played with a Harp instead of a piano, a guitar or any other instrument. The Goldberg Variations are known as an important piece of work around the Baroque compositions. One of the surprises that influenced my way of listening is this brilliant work of the most well-known composer in Europe and the best one on Earth

If you keep more efforts for your class rooms of your harp in church,you can be a leader of it like cultuer ministar in your country, I think so. I hope 5 harp in saint sans No3. on satge by you and french harpist with 5 triangles and 4 organs with 1 harpshicord and 5 dboules long last finish .
I like this and much prefer it to Catrin Finch's version. You can actually play a few of the the slower movements on the lever harp but I've yet to do all of the pieces.
