The older we get the more we grab our fatbike for most types of bike riding. Fatbikes have a lot less chance of having a puncture, :) among other things . We are not out to go fast but to enjoy ourselves. Fatbikes it is!!

Every trail you rode in this video is what I grew up riding in my teens, they are literally the trails that got me hooked on mountain biking! Did no-one tell you about the wild camping spots you rode past, would have been even more of an adventure than staying at the campsite next to the kiddie's play barn (or did you have to keep Blake entertained after feed time..). Wouldn't have been near any pubs though...
Oh and that descent past Gwyrne Fawr Reservior at 15mins? KOM holder right here, top of the Y Das climb down to the road in 17:31. So just a little bit less time than it took to watch this video!!
Hi dude, I’m 14, and literally live in these mountains if you know the are, bwlch is where I live. I ride these trails every weekend with my mate and go wild camping, so lucky to live in an area like this never take it for granted, blessed!

@@GeekonaBike In my opinion a suspension fork is needed for advanced trail/dh cycling, but for gravel fully rigit is cool, too!
@@maltestolli4151 Rigid bike is lighter than regular MTBs and flat bars are more suited for off-roading than gravel bike drop bars.
Ridden the Brecon gap twice. The view at the top is amazing (between penny fan and fanny big) and the decent is absolutely amazing. Great video

I love videos like this guys(and girls)! I am plannining 1 day trip in 2 weeks to go from my home and cross 3 mountains and back home. Around 35 km, 2000+m elevetation gain.
Best bike for this would be something like the Surly Krampus 29x3.0 bike. Steel, and can be had with a front suspension paired with either Surly Moloko bar, Jones bar, or Velo Orange Crazy bar.
I think the Fattie was the right choice - looks like a ton of fun.
You guys should do a contest where a lucky subscriber get to go with you guys.

Tbh can you imagine the giggles to be had if you had a small gang of you doing it.
I’ve ridden around that quarry before, the reason it’s so boggy and rutted out is many people use it for motocross bikes and occasionally quad biking and the drainage is poor

On our recent bikepacking trip, the locals would ask what on earth brought us to Wales - “there’s nothing here!”. Well, that’s kind of the point. Just look at that scenery. Why wouldn’t you go to Wales??

Daniel Price as you should! It’s a spectacular place. We found everyone to be really warm and welcoming as well. One gentleman tried to teach us a poem in Welsh, which we butchered, of course 😉

Me too! Well I did my practice expedition there and final in the Yorkshire Moors, so GCN covered that off last week.
I'm watching this on a dark, wet, cold November evening and can't wait to have another go at bikepacking next Summer. I did the Gower a few months back after watching your vid there and loved it. Just need to convince my mates to join me now. At the moment they think I'm a weirdo 😂😂😂

Fat bikes are definitely the ultimate all terrain bike. They handle Sand, snow, dirt, mud, rocks and even bitumen.
No other bike can compete.

I love how GMBN always make a point to include extra seconds showing conscientiousness like properly closing the gate, or like taking your rubbish with you, like in Blake and Ray's Snowdonia adventure. Hats off for being decent folk and setting a good example. Hopefully people who don't do the same already will subliminally absorb this!

p.s. You were nowhere near Pen-y-Fan. The gap (Bwlch-y-Gwynt) you went through was between Fan-y-Big and Cribyn. Pen-y-Fan was the flat top mountain a mile or so to your west. Great to see you heading up over the Black Mountains on your second day. Some lovely trails up there and very quiet.

I want to do that kind of stuff and go on expeditions. The problem is I don't have a bike, neither money, nor friends who will do this with me.
Get a cheap bike a local os map and just get out their and enjoy nature and the landscape..
I ride and camp solo ,no problem so get a sleeping bag and bivy a meths burner and your away..

Once your though the frontdoor its easy..
A few days roughing it also makes you appreciate home on returning.
Start local and as your fittness increases you will travel further
I recommend learning bushcraft too bikepacking and bushcraft go hand in hand.

I've ridden down the track at pen y fan on a hardtail and fell down the side of the hill into a thorn bush. Not recommended on a hardtail.

Awesome video! I just bike packed from Prague to Vienna with Topeak gear, great equipment. Night riding with lights is awesome! I prefer + tires over the fat tires....fat tires just weigh too much.
That Landscape has not survided anything..it‘s just dead. It is supposed to be covered by nice forrests..I wish the government would start doing more to get it back to its original pre industrialization state..:)
got myself a fat bike a month or 2 ago, I dont ride my full sus or any of my other bikes now......I love them they make me feel the same way I did as a kid on my first bike, they are too much fun
This yellow beauty came so fast th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and even though shipping box was slightly damaged, bike was untouched. After unpacking it, assembly was pretty straightforward. Attached the steering bar (wheel), then front tire and pedals in less then 15 min. This is where it got tricky...brake pads were touching discs (rotors) at all times while rotating wheels so I had to spend good 40 min adjusting it. After everything was done I went on my first ride and goodness gracious, was I surprised. This mountain bike performed like a champ!!! I rode for 20 miles straight on some trails and the vineyard by my house. I am 160 lbs and there is nothing I would change on this bike besides front and rear tires. Also, if you are wondering, I am 6’00 feet tall and and I ordered 19inch frame - It feels absolutely perfect! The fact is you can’t buy better full suspension bike for the money 💰 it’s worth every penny in my opinion!

@@scbarnett3703 Im not totally sure, but I think u can ride almost any tire tubeless... You just put in some extra sealant.
The first loop looks to be the brecon gap route if anyone is interested it's a fairly famous route and easily doable in a few hours. Start from Talybont on Usk.
