Tied a few of the Hayscastle B&B and fished them on my local water the other day, what a cracking fly, had 8 in two hours, then it just went flat, can't wait to get out again if this damn rain ever stops for more than a couple of hours, all the best Brian
Really nice to hear this Brian. We have just had a local fund raising comp for the welsh ladies. Justin and myself were not to enter. But what we did do is present a fly box with a good few of our top patterns in it. Which had the like of the Hays b/b and the latest Olive Pearl nymph. There were many prizes to be had, such as rods and lines. But the winner of the fly box was more delighted to have the flies oppose the rod and lines. As I have always said I will not present anything other than anything that is more consistent. And for us boys this pattern is very consistent. And not just here on this water. Mind this Olive Pearl Nymph is taken some beating at the moment, and certainly when it comes to picking up the more difficult resident fish. I will hope to get a video on this some time soon. Thanks for the comment Brian, keep in touch mate. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 that’s a nice prize for someone, I tied a couple of the olive nymphs just going by how you described it, I’ll let you know how I get on with when I get out next, all the best mate
Thanks so much Stuart. Ye there has been some great fish coming out recently, and they are mainly all resident fish. This is easy to tell as the size of stock fish going in at moment. Thanks again mate. Take care. Shaun.
Its my pleasure. It does my head in, but for people like your self I will keep going. And comments from you all really helps me. Thanks you so much. Shaun.
My head is in a slightly better place at moment. Good enough to start on the video. Sam is going to call over in the next few days as he is keen to see the first part. Its funny.
Not saying because its our local. But this water is very hard to beat. And not just the water, its the people and the facilities for the angler in mind. Thanks so much. Shaun.
Some of the waters look great. So if I am lucky enough. Never done any thing much like travel abroad. My wife hated planes, boats and tunnels. So we stayed on dry land here in UK. I was fine with this, and enjoyed every trip we had. But I am sort of looking forward to the trip. And now looking forward to the food. Thanks Peter. Take care. Shaun.
Great to see you out on the water again for a really informative and enjoyable video. Reassuring to know that even the “experts” occasionally catch a “tree trout” or “bastard perch” as I call it. Fabulous looking fish and some good “jumpers” too. Enjoy Portugal and see you soon 👍👏🎣🙏
Love the Perch one Christopher. Actually I have had a few of those perch in the last few weeks. My mind is not where it should be, and keep forgetting about the damn things. Oh I am no expert. I may have done a lot, and like to share. The Portugal thing was last minute thing. One of the boys mentioned going over to help out. Given my situation at this moment, I dived at it. Only got a passport last week. And if lucky may get some fishing done. But that's a bit of a long shot. As we are there to work. Thanks so much for the comment Christopher. Take care mate. Shaun.
Thanks for another great video Shaun. Sorry I just missed you yesterday but had a fantastic couple of hours in the gale force conditions. Fishing the Hays BnB i landed some fantastic fish from various parts of the waters, a great pattern its proving to be. You take care mate, catch up soon
Ye sorry I was a bit slow. Was not fishing. Just a catch up and cuppa. Did fish yesterday. Still very windy. The hays b&b did it again. Me and Mark only two on water due to wind. Both fishing the Hays b&b. Both done really well. Mark got snapped off after about three or four, then about 20mins later the same went for me. So I had no choice as I had none left, to fish the Olive pearl. Got me another 7 fish, and I was taken it easy. The fish are really switching on at the moment, and considering when it was last stocked. This is great. See you next week mate. Thanks. Shaun.
For most of them they are. First off they are exmoor stock. Then add the ingredients of this water which is spring from the base. Like tap water all year round. Well oxygenated and balance of food. These fish end up good strong fish. But like every thing in the wild there will be a few stragglers. Glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for the time to comment. Shaun.
another good one mate! That black pattern is a killer! Nice to see the Hurricane doing its thing - wouldn't be Haycastle without 50mph winds. Looking forward to coming over again soon - will give you a shout. Cheers, bud!
The Hays b&b is constantly picking the fish. Second best pattern on the water again yesterday. Top pattern for the day by a good bit was the Olive pearl Nymph. Wind yesterday was real bad but managed 11 to the net. 4 which came to the hays b&b. Looking forward to it. Take care mate. Shaun.
Thanks so much Mark. I have got a lot of content from our trip to Garnffrwd. But at this moment I am struggling with things at home and finding that all the footage from Garn a bit too much at this time. So this video was a quick session last week. Thanks again Mark. Shaun.
Hi Jon, my head is a bit all over the place at the moment. I am struggling more than ever at the moment with the editing. Actually with a lot of things. So I am more than pleased that you enjoyed it. Thank you so much. So great hearing from people like your self. Its a pick me up for me. Thanks. Shaun.
Some bloody nice fish there Shaun... I was out today in 50mph winds 😂... Managed 6.. Lost 3.. Was fishing a hover line with cormies, apps and buzzers.. That wind tho.. My face and heed is wind burnt 😂... I'm having a beer just now with a lovely glow about me.. I'll upload some footage later You working offshore?.. Noticed you said you were off to a job in Portugal.. All the best mate.. Ross 🍻
I always struggle with the cormies, funny thing is Justin does also. The wind lately has been wild. Fished yesterday and it was unbelievable. Like a hurricane. Did get 11 to the net mind. And it was last stocked 18 or so days ago. The hays b&b and my pearl olive nymph. The hays having 4 of them. No on land. Helping a mate out with a roof. Looking at may be linking up with a channel out there and do a little fishing. If I get the chance. Catch up soon mate. Thanks for the comment. Shaun.
Really nice to hear from you mate. The coming weeks I will be in Portugal. Like two weeks time. Got to try and get Jamie to come down. He has fished hear before. Many years ago. Catch up soon. Thanks for the comment Tom. Shaun.
Thanks for another great video. Just an idea for your camera, could try a ground stake instead of tripod. I noticed that Tim Joyce uses one in his videos, just looks home made. Don't want to break your camera because then we won't get videos 😜
Yes I have noticed a few use the stake. Just a few things with a stake. When the ground is rock hard like hayscastle. The stake is great when the wind is low, but then so is the tripod. More wind more movement. Ok the stake should not fall over. But whats the point in a wobbly shot. Thanks for pointing out Martin. On the day I was just unlucky. There are a few things I could do. Such as a sort of tent peg below tripod, then fasten it down. Next problem. I move around a lot more than Tim. Tim will be in one position for very long periods. This means it would be worth while. I would end up carrying a hammer around and spend more time putting pegs into the ground. Thanks again martin. Take care mate. Shaun.
Hi Allan thanks for the watch and the comment. The braid does not always work for every body. But its worth looking into, as there are quite a few situations where it works well for us boys. I have covered this on a video about nine months ago. Check the channel out, I am sure you will find it. Sorry not good on computers, and have not learnt how to do tags yet. If you have any problems finding it get back to me. But it does clearly state leaders. Many thanks. Take care. Shaun.
As always a great video Shaun. I always look forward to seeing them and learn something new every time. How’s your net attached your back for quick release? Magnet on a carabiner? Or the handle clip connected to D ring on your jacket? Cheers, Jonathan
Hi Jonathan, Yes always with a ring on back. Never fails. Thanks for your support Johnathan and I am so happy you are picking up bits from the videos. Take care Mate. Shaun.
Sorry Elisabeth I did not make it very clear. Title is Greatest Fishing Lures. Thumb says, Check this Out. 9 Months back. Sorry again as I do not know how to do a tag. But when you do this pattern, its the lead that is important. This pattern has been successful for a lot of people all over the world. Good luck with it. And hope to hear from you again with a success story. Many thanks, Take care. Shaun.
I do hope things improve for you. Depending on where you are in Portugal you might like a busman's holiday, google "fly fishing Serra da Estrela" and you'll find some TH-cam videos that might tempt you. Hope to meet up with you one day. Another great video showing real world fly fishing.
