- Ventured out alone on a winter overnight camping trip in the wilderness area on Fire Island. Join me as I navigate the remote beach and backcountry to set up camp miles away from civilization. Temperatures dropped as the sun went down making for a chilly night in my tent, but despite the cold, it was a fun adventure!

this was really great Matt. so glad you are back on your feet. I'm moving to Whidbey island WA in the next couple of months so I am depending on you to keep this boots on the ground content coming to my feed so I can always feel the Atlantic in my soul. i suspect like many of your trekking friends here on Long Island I use the shoreline to connect to the holiness within. to feel like a peer animal on this beautiful earth. so know that I will be checking in. please stay safe, stay well, remain full of wonder and gratitude. Dude! As an avid backpacker and back country camper, I AM ALWAYS PICKING UP MYLAR BALLOONS!!! This passive littering has got to stop!
Ugh!!! It's sooooo frustrating. I just saw that Florida just passed a law against releasing balloons. Mylar balloons are a theme in a bunch of my videos. Most of my hiking is from Columbus Day through Memorial Day. Except when I'm out with the NY/NJ Trail Conference. I'm part of the Catskills Trail Crew and also maintain a section of The Devil's Path.

30s! way too cold!! so cool you get out there though, all those people on LI and you get this huge area to yourself and it is beautiful. we do the little hike from sunken forest to the Pines and once from ocean beach/ there's a little emptiness out there but nothing like this. Nice to have no bugs but i think i'd rather be there when it is hot hahaha// awesome trip thanks for sharing, nice to get out on the island with you this way
