I have been researching the Pietenpol Air Camper and came across this video. That was probably the best explanation of history on a plane I have heard. Fun, energetic, and involved. Ami Rocks. Now even if I don't get one I will plan a trip to the museum just because I want a t-shirt and I hate buying shirts from places I haven't been.
Hi Joey! Thanks for your encouraging comment! We hope you'll come to the museum this summer - the Pietenpol Fly-In is held at the Brodhead Airport from July 21-24 this year... Check out some of Ami's other videos, and feel free to let us know what other content you'd like to see - we're always making more videos to share!
I still have a set of plans that I got from B.H.P. himself back in the late 60's. Came with a handwritten note that I also still have. Never got around to building it. I liked this video very much.
Adorable, fun, informative and full of great energy. Ami, you should consider producing technical videos for aircraft systems on transport category aircraft. Believe me, your presentation skills and style would brighten up any classroom. Awesome job. AND I love that the tail skid remains on that “Pete”.
Ami here - thank you so much! The secret is: we have a lot of fun making the videos. My speciality is vintage, but I've done a few collaborations with other organizations for videos lately, so if you ever need someone, let us know!
Are kits still available for sale? If so, what's the cost and is there an alternate engine suitable for use? (I don't know how many of the Ford engines are still around...)
Hey Paul! Sadly, there are no kits sold anymore, only plans. Sometimes a partial project will come up for sale, though, so you don't always have to start from ground up. We'd recommend you check out the Brodhead Pietenpol Association for more info on projects and building, the community there is really informative. Their website is www.pietenpols.org. A lot of people use Corvair engines, or more modern aircraft engines. Ford-powered Pietenpols are rare but totally doable! Good luck!
Hey Ami what kinda airplane is that in the leftish background from 5:09-5:48?? It looks like a Piet but with some sort of small radial?? Would love to see a virtual tour of that one too! Thanks!
Hi James! The airplane is a 1931 Russell Monoplane. It's a homebuilt, similar to a Pietenpol, but a bit smaller. This one has a 40 hp Salmson radial engine in it.
BTW, What year was your Pietenpol donated? The reason that I ask is, I was in Cherry Grove in Sept.1970 to see Bernard's plane. He took me to his hanger to see it and there was a 1937 Piet there for some work. It was just your mention of 1937 reminded me and I'm just curious. Thanks.
Hi John! Our Pietenpol was donated in 2020, but we know that ownership changed in 1970 and 1980. It certainly could have been at Bernard's hangar for some work.
Decaffe…😅 yes just a couple beats per minute slower wouldn’t hurt. I couldn’t quite catch a few words but it was only annoying because I knew I was missing something good!
She is adorable with a great presentation. The Pietenpol is gorgeous as well.

Great video! Thanks! (I'm building one).
Thank you! Good luck with your project.
5:09 What model is the red plane? Sorry, I use google translator. Thank you!
That is a 1931 Russell Monoplane, a homebuilt similar to the Pietenpol.
The Air Camper is definitely a cutie pie.
But she needs another wing.

Showwwwww!
Nice Standard D 25 in the background
Where do you store your camping gear?
My father would fly his around the midwest in the 70s with his gear in the front seat. What an adventure.

Love the presenter. She's going places. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
How do you start the Pietenpol? Can you leave it parked outside fully fueled sometime soon?? Hehe
Absolutely, just bring it back before dark!
@@kelchmuseum Need to loop those loops hehe
Hand prop!
Симпатичная ,артистичная ! Умничка...
Was it a Model A or Model T? I thought it was a Model T engine?
It’s a neat plane - thanks for the tour!
As I understand, the Model A was used in the Air Camper, and the single seat Sky Scout used the model T engine.
How do you start nine out of ten airplanes in those days? Hand prop it!
Decaf! Great informative vid tho.
Decaffe…😅 yes just a couple beats per minute slower wouldn’t hurt. I couldn’t quite catch a few words but it was only annoying because I knew I was missing something good!

Beautiful plane there is one in my hangar under construction in Paris
You are very pleasant but your fluency is very hard for a Frenchman!
je suis désolé! Je parlez pas bien français mais je comprend beaucoup... peut-être je puez écrire les sous-titres en français!
