Skully turned out to be the opposite of what I expected. I thought he'd be eager to throw an exciting and fun Halloween party, but his plans seem dull and serious, almost puritan-style. I wonder what his backstory is and how is his life back home.
barely started w the vid yet so i Might be proven wrong p soon but maybe the way he suggested is how he prefers to celebrate halloween? quiet, dull. i wouldnt be surprised if the others in his village tainted halloween for him so he prefers to celebrate it alone by himself. maybe its something like the commercialization of halloween too that he resents and maybe hes trying to justify that way of celebrating halloween to others esp jack skellington. to be assured that it isnt wrong for him to be lonely on halloween. probably doesnt help that the others suggested a flashier halloween, maybe he thinks he doesnt fit with such a flashy halloween celebration given hes usually outcast and stuff idk i might j be getting ahead of myself lol update: okay i thought of another interpretation. The Celts believed that the souls/spirits of the dead would come back to the living world during Samhain to torment the people who are still alive. In order to hide from these evil spirits they'd wear costumes and make lanterns with turnips to scare them away. Maybe that's why Skully was so insistent on banishing the evil ghost rather than having them as guests

After watching this..⚠️basically a review of the whole video⚠️ I get why Skully would feel like that. Having your traditions and beliefs be called “boring, insane, brutish” would be offensive to many. I can kinda relate with that. Adding on: it also makes sense why he was so polite and open to us in the beginning. He probably tries to cherish his time with others and be his best self because of how dangerous and impactful Halloween is in his village. I have a theory now that when he mentioned ghosts it might be because his village was cursed with bad energy which lures in other terrible spirits and manifests evil beings. People in his village have probably been taught to never trust ghosts for that reason.
I shudder thinking that perhaps his village might be below Bald Mountain... (Which would explain the hostility towards ghosts and being silent with only a Jack o lantern tbh)

Like what another commenter said, it's likely that his rural village has been more exposed to more malevolent spirits whereas Sage's Island is more exposed to more benevolent spirits so it's definitely a big rift in terms of the culture they're used to

That's a nice turn regarding Skully's character, both the characters and us readers have been "decevied" through his behaviour and thought he was something else. Interesting to read that he wants a "quiet" Halloween. I agree that that is frightnening too, but all of us are used to have an Halloween with parties and such. Skully was used to his traditions, he likes them and if he has the chance to organise Halloween his own way, he takes it. His ideas are rather interesting, he's more into something more simple, old-fashioned without too many things going on. Like, you know when there are people that like a lot of things going on in celebrations, meanwhile there are people enjoying the little things. That's exactly this, they all like and are used to more fancy and noisy events, meanwhile apparentely, Skully is into some calmer things. I feel sorry for Skully because in that moment he must have felt again misunderstood like it happened in school. I mean, no wonder he feels that way, he has quite the ideas; people can agree on a quiet Halloween (like Idia) and again, if you don't like fancy stuff, it's okay, matter of taste, but the erasing ghost is a lot to handle. I'm amazed on how Skully was able to say that out loud when there in Halloween Town there are monsters and ghosts. I like how the main problems also was the fact that the characters simply didn't communicate and thought it like "oh well, if he enjoys it so much, then let's let him organise him" but all of them had different ideas, or at least different from Skully's. I also think that Skully would like to impress his idol and Jack was interested in "quiet Halloween" too, but the moment the others threw other ideas, Skully felt threatened. Also because if you're grown with certain taste, whether is because of ideas, environment and such and you like them too, no wonder he took it badly. (Edit) The also very wrong thing is to think that your side is RIGHT, exactly what Skully is doing, and the other's are wrong in sharing their opinions in some way that made him feel like he's doing bad. Like, you can have a both quiet and fun Halloween, in a party where many people are there, you gotta have to talk to others and decide together, exactly what's not happening here. There's no right nor wrong when it comes to personal taste, but you gotta talk things out.

He might be the type who wants to stick to original traditions, which is why he wants Halloween to be more frightening and less "fun" like we all know it to be. Same as to how Christmas has changed over the many, many years from how it began to what it's known as now

I get not wanting to be in a stuffy, noisy room full of overly flashy decorations for a day of remembering the dead, but little to no food AND eradicating the ghosts? There’s a story behind this puritan way of thinking, and I will not this flamboyant kid near Ramshackle Dorm. Leave those sweet ghosts alone, they were tormented enough in the first Halloween.
Why does Skully reminds me of Rollo a little ? Rollo hates all magic and tries to destroy it and Skully hates Ghost and wants to get rid of them. Yuki( my oc) would have a fit with Skully. No one talks about her ghost pals like that let alone making Halloween like what it use to be in the old days but the way we celebrate Halloween now shows how much we appreciate it remembering it’s traditions. Not only that but dressing up as ghost and monsters is basically showing that they are the guest of honor on this special holiday. It’s the one time of year where they can cross over to the real world and have some fun.
But you're not seeing it from his point of view. I think he has been tormented by evil spirits. He and his whole village might be under a curse or has evil spirits torment them. I have a feeling that's why he hates ghosts. He has trauma or something. This is a theory of course, but a lot of people think his village might be the one under Bald Mountain. I really have to feel bad for Skully. Jack is someone he admires and looks up to, and even though Jack was intrigued by both suggestions, he preferred the NRC students idea more, which must have been a low blow for him, especially coming from someone he admires…This is not going to go very well… With the first comment I left under part 3 of Ekala’s translation, spoofing the Twilight quote, I feel like I should have used the half-joking tone indicator, over joking, because I thought Skully was a lot older than he really is before the start of the event, but that was another thing I needed context on and I guess I didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea/spread potentially wrong information. However, I am definitely convinced he is older than 16/has been around for a lot longer than he is letting on.
