    ======
    Galaxy's Edge has a problem, in that its theme is based around Disney's sequel trilogy. The sequel films are a damaged brand that don't sell Star Wars merchandise and while it may sound crazy to even consider a retheme, I actually argue that this should happen.
    First, a special thanks to Choven Prau for letting me use their rendition of The Mandalorian theme in the video: • The Mandalorian - Main...

    The fact that it isn’t themed around the og trilogy is insane to me. Those are the most iconic movies of the franchise, those are the films you think of when you hear Star Wars.

      @@benjacobs574 No it didn't, but granted we don't really know what would have happened. Perhaps not opening with Rise of the Resistance had people waiting until the could experience the full land, but then obviously we know what happened since. I know that Disney didn't come near what they expected with just the land and Smuggler's opening though. On opening day in Hollywood Studios, the attraction started with a 4-5 hour wait and dropped to a 40 by mid afternoon. Not a success I think. Since then, even with the opening of Rise, it seems to have been fairly successful, but not to the point where the park is reaching capacity every day like Disney seemed to think it would. Not even close. It appears to have also resulted in the loss of crowds at Disneyland around its opening as well.

      Its because a lot of young audiences don't have attachment to the Original Trilogy. Heck, I'm almost 40 and I don't have the connection to them that my older friends do. Kids/teens aren't attracted to a movie that's almost 50 years old. When my students talk about Star Wars, they talk about new stuff. Disney didn't make this land to appeal to 40-60 year olds, they made it to appeal to 8-30 year olds.

    • @PoseidonEntertainment
      @PoseidonEntertainment  2 ปีที่แล้ว +116

      @@mikeiseastman That's odd because I've had the opposite observation. I'm in my mid-20s and most Star Wars fans I know are huge fans of the OT and the prequels, but definitely not Disney's brand of things. As Disney has produced their own trilogy, I've seen the cult following for the prequel films increase despite their flaws and the OT has always been highly regarded. I'm not sure what factors play into this discrepancy, but I was under the impression that Lucas' saga was still quite culturally relevant. Even the merch continues to sell the best.

    Re-themeing would go a long way, but what it really needs is aliens.
    it's supposed to be a sprawling spaceport but the only alien walking around is Chewbacca.
    they could have a few cast members in different clothing combinations and swappable masks and gloves/sleeves to give the illusion of multiple different aliens walking around the land doing various tasks

    • @Skye_Writer

      Exactly. Wookieepedia says Batuu is home to 17 immigrated species of sentient beings, including Bith (the Cantina Band), Devaronians, Twilek, and Wookiees. Why aren't we seeing some of these people working the outpost? Look, I understand that in the Florida heat and humidity especially, masked characters are required to work only half an hour outside and have 15-30 minutes "offstage" out of the mask. But there are plenty of SW characters whose alienness consists of adding on a piece of headgear and maybe some facepaint...or even no facepaint. Or you could go the Star Trek route and put on spots, nose ridges, or some kind of forehead appliance. And while no, I don't expect the regular cast members who sell the merch and sweep up the trash to get dressed up like that, there's no reason you couldn't have some wandering cast members who, like you said, swap out every half hour or so. Maybe every cast member could do a 30 minute stint as some alien or other, then catch a transport off world and go back to serving blue milk in the Batuu clothing.

    Not to mention that they missed a huge opportunity in not theming the place around a known location. The best theme park attractions take you someplace you've always wanted to be. You go to Hogwarts! Or Beast's Castle! Or Diagon Alley! for crying out loud. Not "Beauxbatons" or "A Place Maurice might have Visited" or "A Wizarding Mall in Bulgaria". I get that choosing a location automatically negates certain choices and opportunities, but how much more excited would you be to go to Mos Eisley or Bespin or Coruscant as opposed to an unknown Baatu? There's just no emotional pull to Baatu.

      It seems clear the main reason for basing the land on the black spire outpost was so they would own all the IP and characters 100% so they earn 100% of the cash from merch, but also they could build grandeur in by building vertically. Can you imagine had they themed it all on a desert planet with flat rolling sand dunes? They can better make the land seem huge by building up rather than by paving acres more actual land to create the effect of a new land. They were fresh off of Pandora and could see all that worked well for it with the mountains and spires. I feel uncomfortable defending Disney or their Star Wars choices but in fairness to the imaginers there is more to consider than just the old SW story.
      Even so, you make an excellent point and they should have tried harder to give the fans what they wanted

      Well there's the Millennium falcon. That's a pretty memorable location from the og trilogy as much as the sequels. Not only do you get to see it on scale but you get to venture inside and then 'fly' it. Someone ready posted here that star wars doesn't really stick around the same planets for them to be truly like Hogwarts in Harry Potter, so making a new location that can center stuff from all 3 trilogies, include canon friendly shops, restaurant's and rides and have that general 'star wars' aesthetic was kinda the best option. Wether you think they were good or bad, most of the desions made had been mulled over by expirienced engineers, team members and park execs who've run Disneylamd and Disney world for years, so they weren't just random, spur of the moment type stuff. Maybe they were, but I really doubt it.

      hpotter29 The older lands in Disneyland were based more around a general concept -- like Fantasyland, the land where all fairy tales come true -- rather than re-creating a specific location from one particular movie. In that sense, Galaxy's Edge is a bit more like those lands, creating a planet that's a cross-section of different cultures from the Star Wars universe.

    I really liked your point about the music. One thing I don't like about Galaxy's Edge is there is no background music playing anywhere. I get that Disney was trying to make it as immersive as possible, but when every single other land in Disney World (except Pandora) has music playing at all times, the lack of music gives the area a weird feeling in my opinion. Like its almost too quiet. Furthermore, for me at least, part of the reason I feel so immersed in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is that film music is playing at all times, which really gets you in the feel and mood of Harry Potter as well as makes you feel like you've stepped into the movie.

      I agree. If you don't want to use the films' music, then get something that sounds like a cantina band. Personally, I think musicians on the streets playing less common instruments that people don't see every day--a dulcimer, water drums, a handpan/Hang drum--could add an otherwordly feel to the place. Every touristy place has a street musician busking for tips. Batuu should be no exception.

It is essentially a Shopping mall looking like Star Wars with a couple of rides thrown in to call it a park. It needs more rides and more space. It also doesnt help with the Galactic Cruiser hotel announcing pricing in the astronomical amounts. 6k for a family of 4 for 2 night. TFA was arguably the worst film in the series for this reason, the republic getting replaced with the "resistance" and the empire facing literally no consequence for being blown up and having all of it's chief architects killed of was a rotten foundation to start the entire series, and was unfixable. Unfortunately because of all the pandering and fan service in TFA it usually gets a pass as being the most "okay" of the sequel trilogy but in my opinion it's lack of taking any risks is exactly why it's the most god awful.

      @@R0NYFL0NY I agree. TFA is remicrowaved meatloaf. Sure it tastes familiar, but in a very bland and predictable way. Considering how JJ Abrams handled the Star Trek Reboot, it is quite clear that he just likes to remicrowave sci-fi classics and add in too much lens flair. While I do think that The Last Jedi has many problems, it at least was trying to cover new ground and set things up for an interesting third film. Too bad JJ Abrams handled the blank slate he got from Johnson with as much grace as a herd of Banthaas on an ice rink. The Rise of Skywalker was both too bloated in its scope (seems like JJ Abrams wanted to do a two party finale ala Harry Potter) and wasted too much time on irrelevant plot holes (cut out half the planets in your video game style fetch quest). Also reviving Palpatine was the worst part of the expanded universe as it undercut so much of episode 6. Overall I think the biggest problem is having dueling directors and no unified creative vision. For all of the flak given to the prequels, Lucas had a unified vision. Honestly they should have just hired Peter Jackson and given him enough creative freedom to make it a masterpiece.

      It’s overrated
      The narrative and sequence of events gets repetitive, it relies too much on screens which kills the illusion and it always needs maintenance that of which is rarely provided
      On top of that I have no interest in seeing a dark ride based on the sequels especially if I have to fly down to see it. An OT era one with a menacing Darth Vader animatronic? That’s a different story
      Because the sequels are essentially a remake of the OT that just confirms the importance of the OT Era but at the same time it’s a conflict of interest
      1) having a beat for beat remake as a sequel changes the story of the early installment for the worst
      2) we know that the ot era is the one that everyone appreciates therefore why waste time and resources with the “remake”

They just need to let that go a bit, add characters and merch and add even just a small attraction that is a full nod to the original trilogy.
      This could be even just a small walk through loop outdoor museum park/selfie park or something I have long wanted to see, a walk through either stables or zoo with animatronic animals and aliens. There are so many they could choose for it and they don't need to do all of them.

    • @PoseidonEntertainment
      @PoseidonEntertainment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      I think you're definitely correct in saying that. I also believe the sequel trilogy has helped highlight what makes the prequels so great though. Despite their issues, they at least feel like a real artistic vision. • @jackskellingtonsora
      @jackskellingtonsora 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@PoseidonEntertainment The main problem with The Force Awakens is that it's a remake of Episode IV without doing anything new really. It's nostalgia baiting for the sake of it. It's Episode IV but bigger. The death star? There's a whole death star planet! Whoooaaaahhhh!!!! At least Last Jedi tried something new by going in a unique and interesting direction. There was an artistic vision there even if you didn't like it (I did). But then Rise of Skywalker was so afraid that people would stop paying attention that it went back to nostalgia baiting for the sake of it and purposely retconned a lot of what made Last Jedi interesting. Why are Lando and the Emperor here? Because they're characters you already know. There's no vision there. It's Episode VI but BIGGER! Instead of a Death Star, there's a whole fleet of Death Star ships. And instead of the Emperor doing lightning magic, he does a whole huge lighting attack that wipes out ships.
      This nostalgia baiting for the sake of it is at the heart of what makes Disney so late stage capitalist right now. They're cashing in on their reputation as much as possible because they know people will continue buying their merchandise and coming to their parks. This is seen in the general laziness of everything they're doing. Remaking old movies. Commenting on their usual style (the line "If you start singing I'm going to throw up" from Moana made me gag). The sheer laziness in the parks: the lack of entertainment and atmosphere, not paying to adequately maintain attractions, the laziness of new attractions, charging more for less (as in the Boo Bash). Buying up so many properties so that they can cash in on other people's stories. Disney owns over a third of the market share of the entertainment industry. There's so many examples of this. Bob Iger started it and Bob Chapek is continuing it.

      To be fair on TLJ, it’s been thoroughly dissected as a poorly written and directed movie.
      Rian had a vision for the movie and forced the franchise to work around it. Not only this, but he didn’t follow the previous movie (Poe literally just blew up StarKiller base yet is isn’t trusted by Haldo, the fact TFO was taking over the galaxy after TFA’s victory in destroying StarKiller base, etc.) which is a necessity for writing a cohesive trilogy of movies.
      You can totally still enjoy the movie as it is, hell, I enjoy the first Suicide Squad! That said, praising the movie for what it wanted to do is definitely the incorrect move since what it wanted to do was tank the trilogy for the sake of poorly thought out themes and vision. :/

    The problem with Galaxy's Edge was the cut elements. Disney spent a lot of time at Knotts Berry Farm taking notes on Ghost Town Alive and wanted to mimic that model in Galaxy's Edge. Stages and platforms are built throughout the land for characters to be present on and interaction. And that table service restaurant with a live show would make it a place to visit.
    The roaming droids and stunt shows throughout the land would have added much needed life. The only element they would need to create would be something for guests to interact with a la Harry Potter's wands. Give people the opportunity to use "the Force" on things.

    Setting it during the galactic civil war era gives you a ton of freedom.

Solo, Rebels(also gives access to clone wars characters like ahsoka and maul), rogue one, fallen order game, original trilogy, battlefront campaign, mandalorian.

Hardly, a cinematic experience to see "Solo" and totally was a "solo" experience. The point of the theme park is to jointly experience immersive environments together as a family. I think it needs to be rethemed, but *not* to the original trilogy, but rather the series as a whole. That's one of the reasons why Wizarding World works so well at Universal, it has no set timeframe in the universe, allowing for all merch and food sales to make perfect sense, and it allows all the rides to be set whenever the heck they want.
    So, for Galaxy's Edge, you can have the actual land themed to the series as a whole, then the individual rides take place at certain points. You can have Rise of the Resistance still set in the sequel era, you can have Smuggler's Run set in the OT era and replace Hondo with Jabba, and you can have a pod race launch coaster set in the prequel era.

    As someone who was both a Star Wars fan (emphasis on the WAS. Thanks Disney) and an annual passholder for the first seven months of Galaxy’s Edge’s existence, it gets old real quick. I had a blast on my first visit, but there’s nothing new to see after that. After the first few weeks of hype wore down, I (and seemingly most other guests) rarely visited Galaxy’s Edge. Even after Rise of the Resistance opened the land was always empty. There’s simply nothing more to see once you’ve looked at the surface level. It hasn’t always been that way either, as evidenced by the lasting popularity of pretty much every other land in the park. Why should someone visit an expensive shopping mall with delusions of grandeur when they can go ride Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, or any number of other high quality*, reridable classics?
    *Note, the rides were high quality THEN. Chapek has slashed budgets to the point that you’d be better off going to Six Flags for an immersive and reliable ride experience.

    Although I’m a big Star Wars fan, I kind of agree with the direction they took in this case. It’s harmless enough that anyone can approach it, even if you never watched any of the movies or if you only watched the sequel trilogy, which, let’s be honest, a lot of children have only watched the new movies unless their parents are big fans of the OG trilogy.
    Star Wars isn’t as easy to translate as Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and Diagon alley. The galaxy is too ample and it’s impossible to please everyone.
    It’s not perfect and it’s still in its infancy, there’s plenty of room for growth. When TWWoHP opened it had 3 attractions, the castle which was amazing, even though everything felt plastic, the ride of the Hypogriff which was a tiny roller coaster for kids and the repurposed Triwizard tournament dragon challenge with very little theming, with only the triwizard cup in the middle of the queue to establish what it was. Everything else was also cutely decorated stores and it still made me cry out of excitement.
    The intention to theme everything is there. It’s just a bigger challenge.

    Personally I don't think it needs to be rethemed, I just think that it needs to be more immersive. They need aliens in Ogas being social and being part of the story, as if they're locals hanging out. The interactivity of your progress from Smugglers Run would be great, and if a bounty hunter actually engaged you, as originally proposed would happen, would be fantastic. They need droids moving about in the land. The merch should be better designed to fit a planet from another galaxy. It would be cool if everyone mission on Smugglers Run was different, like they do on Star Tours. They could easily change out the First Order ship for a TIE fighter, or more generic transport, change the dish on top of the Millennium Falcon, and at different times of the year switch between the OT and sequels. It wouldn't be that expensive, and they could cover a lot of fandom and lore. The only difficult thing would be implementing more prequel lore.

Or have a walk through museum of alien artifacts and history. And yes the museum can have a gift shop as well so both of these attractions would generate revenue. The problem is bigger than a re-theming. Making everything look like the OT would appeal to people over 25 more, sure, but it wouldn't address the bigger problem, which is that Star Wars as a brand and universe matters less and less to younger people in general. Kids largely don't care. They didn't just not care about the sequel trilogy (despite adults dragging them to theaters), they don't watch and rewatch the originals and prequels as Gen X and Millennials did. They just don't care as much. They think the Star Wars films are fine, but don't obsess over them, don't care about the merchandise, etc. Their attachment to Star Wars is largely due to their parents' nostalgia... So LONG TERM, the smarter move on Disney's part currently is to push Galaxy's Edge towards Mandalorian and other coming Disney+ content. That's the only place they've generated new interest and merch sales.

    Johnson didn't make bizarre decisions. He was HANDED BIZARRE AND HOLLOW PREMISES by JJ Abrams, who introduced a bunch of things with no plan for them. The options Johnson had were to continue with the "soft reboot" approach of The Force Awakens, or try to salvage some meaning from the hand he was dealt. He did the latter. And Trevorrow's script, had he been kept on, would have made good on a lot of things Johnson did (and honored the other trilogies). It was much better than what we got. Instead, fearful Disney listened to toxic fans (not critics and the general public) to reverse course and retcon everything. With Rise of Skywalker, JJ retconned not only The Last Jedi, but his own first movie, along with aspects of the original and prequel trilogies. The number of people who don't focus on this and blame Johnson for everything is just ridiculous.

    • @PoseidonEntertainment

      I agree, in that The Last Jedi feels somewhat like a creative vision to me, at least compared to the Abrams films. That being said, I think that destroying Luke's entire character arc from the original films was an extremely poor decision, something which I don't think was in the plans. I also feel that anything that isn't Rey and Luke related is just boring in this film.

    • @monovision566
      @monovision566 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@PoseidonEntertainment I agree with parts of that, but again, it's Abrams who set that story in motion. Johnson just had to try to salvage it. Johnson (rightly) deduced the only reason Luke Skywalker would do such a thing would be from a feeling of failure.
      A lot of it is covered in this piece here. I think you'd appreciate it. I just don't think a lot of people account for how much Johnson's hands were tied. th-cam.com/video/IrMM33uHAo8/w-d-xo.html

      Really? The old "toxic fans, RrrrEeEeE!" argument again? Yes, Abrams had a terrible plan (he's the cinematic antichrist for a reason) and yes, the Trevorrow script sounds MUCH better than tRoS (from what I've heard of it), but the "critics" (if you mean the professional critics) tended to suck off TLJ like there was no tomorrow and all-round supported Ruin Johnson's spiteful attacks on people who didn't agree with destroying Luke's character, killing off Snoke before we really knew anything about him, including Holdo and her infamous hyperspeed ram, etc. The entire "sequel" trilogy was a bust from beginning to end and NOTHING could have saved it from JJ's "mystery box" scams, RJ's spiteful trolling just to get his own trilogy vanity project and Kennedy's misandrist hatred of Lucas' works.

    • @monovision566
      @monovision566 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wanten-the-stormtrooper Yes, the toxic fans. The ones who bullied Kelly Marie Tran offline. The toxic fans who make some of the same arguments you're making here.
      Even when JJ himself got a chance to explain Snoke's origins, he was like "meh, clones?" There WAS no plan for Snoke. Snoke was a useless echo of Palpatine. Johnson deduced that and disposed of him, and in so doing solidified the real villain (and far more interesting character) in Kylo. He didn't want a trilogy about the redemption of a guy who oversaw a bunch of planets blowing up and then killed Han Solo. He ended with Kylo Ren as the big bad.
      It's not spiteful trolling to make those moves. It's storytelling with a purpose and toward a goal. He didn't "destroy" Luke-he was forced to come up with a reason Luke would have ever abandoned the cause, which Abrams had sloppily determined for him. Abrams handed him a story where Luke had abandoned the Resistance and was sad to see Rey when she got there and held out his father's lightsaber. That's what Rian HAD TO START WITH. He decided the ONLY reason Luke might step back would be that he felt like he'd failed personally and had lost faith.
      Rian is right about that, but it's still an attempt to salvage a faulty premise that he did not create. And he'd say the same. Regardless, Luke is a badass in TLJ. He comes to himself, faces down the First Order, shows incredible new mastery of Jedi powers, and promises to haunt the bad guy. If episode 9 had run with that, it would have been great.
      And Kennedy has no hatred of Lucas or his works. She's worked with him and Spielberg since the 70's. She's a great producer... just not a storytelling one. She never should have been brought in as a Kevin Feige figure because that's not her. But to call that "misandry" is precisely the sort of shit toxic fans say. Put your fragility aside.
      Reactions like yours which so lack narrative cohesion and so misapply blame are exactly why we got TROS. Thank yourself for that. Kennedy was set to produce Duel of Fates until people like you flipped out.

IV, but that does not excuse Kennedy of blame or deny her dislike at least of Star Wars and its fans. Setting visitors into a fascist environment where armed stormtroopers call you out is absolutely the low point of Disney Imagineering, and doing so within our current political environment shows an impeccable talent for doing the wrong thing in the most tasteless way imaginable.
    The whole concept needs to be abandoned. Filmic background music is absolutely needed in this area. The whole excuse that "this is reality" falls apart if there's background music ON THE RIDES. There's GOT to be a waterfall added and some movement. Being in a place so focused on space and yet knowing that a space ship will never arrive in the air is only one of the many ways Galaxy's Edge sets everything up to disappoint the returning visitor. It was really cool the first time. Now what?
    Does this planet have no festivals or holiday celebrations that might bring seasonal joy to the grimness of the experience, or would that defeat the whole "torture" theme that runs throughout?

    • @Skye_Writer
      @Skye_Writer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know, I think you have something there. I'm not sure why the entire area isn't roofed/domed over with an LED "sky showing things like that.
      You know, I remember as a kid the first year EPCOT opened that we ha no idea what to expect, and as we made our way from Canada to Mexico in World Showcase, night had fallen by the time we got to the Mexico pavilion. When we walked inside the pyramid, we literally thought we had walked back outside. Not just the kids, but the adults too. The "night breezes" and the stars in the sky and the slight clouds we could see in the distance really had us fooled for a couple of minutes, and we had to look closer to realize it was all projected onto the ceilings and walls.
      How amazing would it be if Black Spire Outpost had a dome with a sky and could simulate the experience of actually be ON a world with a real, thriving spaceport?
      And ok, maybe they don't want to put music from the films piping into that land, but that's all more the more reason to pipe in music that sounds like it belongs in the area. Or better yet, to bring in musicians to play on the streets just like you'll find in any tourist town. Every New York subway was someone playing guitar or violin or saxophone and busking for tips, every port of call for a cruise ship (REAL ports, that is, not their private islands) has local musicians playing local instruments, inviting you to come see their show at some local bar. Galaxy's Edge needs the same thing.
      But you are right that if they are playing the music IN THE RIDES and in the lightsaber building experience, then they absolutely have no reason to shy away from playing it in the land.

Many of the ships around the land, changed. ROTR's million dollar animations, changed. Its just not likely in the slightest that they would want to commit to such a change.

The town becomes Mos Espa, the spires have to be lightened up a bit and the MFSR pre-show is lead by a Hutt, the Hondo animatronic becomes a protocol droid, heck why not C-3PO. The foliage can be 'sponsored' by Lars Hydro. As for RotR, even easier. Recostume the animatronics and replace Rey/BB-8 with Leia and R2-D2.

    The Sequels really are an albatross around the neck of the Star Wars brand. First I can tell you as somebody that was in my late 20s when the Prequels kicked off people didn't immediately start shitting on them the way they did with the sequels. Yes there were fanboys that didn't like them and there were questionable issues and flaws in them but a sizable portion of the fandom liked them a great deal. And more than half a decade of The Clone Wars tv series only enhanced the perception of the Prequel movies. It also helped that Revenge of the Sith was the highpoint of that series and so the Prequels ended on a high note that was relatively controversy free (NOOOOO and lost the will to live not withstanding). More than that the Prequels truly felt like Star Wars in a way that the Sequels didn't. Everything felt like it all belonged in the same Universe together and it had a reasonably coherent over arching theme and storyline.
    Now I've been a Star Wars nerd since I walked out of A New Hope back in 77 thinking it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen as a 5 year old. And the longest 3 years of my life felt like the wait between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi so I can promise you I'm part of the demographic that is supposed to predisposed to hate the Prequels and I just never did. They fit into the Universe like a comfortable pair of jeans. Maybe they were threadbare in a few spots but they belonged. I remember walking out of the Force Awakens feeling...... disappointed. They killed Han in a pointless way, Rey had no backstory, Luke wasn't even in the damn movie except for a few seconds at the end, Kylo Ren seemed like a petulant child and since when does somebody pick up a lightsaber and best a trained Sith, wounded or not?
    And they just shit all over a legion of fans that had been devouring expanded universe material since the early 90s. While Lucas chose not to incorporate any of that into the prequels he at least had the good sense not to thumb his nose at the fans who loved it. Clearly the creators of the sequel trilogy decided they knew best how to continue the story of the OT and gave a giant middle finger to everybody who thought otherwise. And then they doubled down on that with The Last Jedi and it bit them in the ass hard. By the time the Rise of Skywalker came out there was really not much that could be done to fix the problem besides scraping it all and starting over.
    Which seems to be the persistent rumor behind the franchise these days. Dave and Jon have thrown the Star Wars brand an absolute lifeline that saved it from a certain death and they are doing it by exploring the area of time all the fans wanted to see after the OT and by creating well crafted stories built around likable and well developed characters. As the implications of what the Sequel will mean for these characters as they grow to be more and more popular become obvious I think it will become ever more obvious that Disney will have to borrow a page from their own mishandling of the brand and consign the sequels to legends and create a new canon. Once that die is cast retheming of Galaxy's Edge will become a necessity.

      @@Courier_333 All of the places I mentioned are already places you can go at Universal... that's why I mentioned them. I don't think you know what the word "literally" means. First you said "Hogwarts is "literally" THE location of the series" and then admitted it wasn't. You then said all those sites are "literally" within walking distance, which is also incorrect, as if Hogwarts and Hogsmeade were in walking distance of London, there would be no need for the Hogwarts Express. There's nothing stopping Disney from creating multiple Star Wars-based lands like Tatooine, Naboo, etc. if they wanted.

    The BB units could still be kept. In the expanded universe literature, with the time period after Return of the Jedi, spherical droids were often used as therapy droids and would roll around. Great video! 🐾

    It being in the furthest forward time point makes sense. That way they can explain any references to everything else. If it were set in the OT, then they wouldn’t be able to add mando related content for instance, because mando happens after the OT.

    As much as I am finding your channel to be a hidden jem in the theme park community, I must say that I disagree with this video. My question is that if its considered relatively easy to retheme GE, then whats the point? Like it would just be a retheme of the cosmetics, which would be minor in and of itself. Honestly it seems that from a business perspective it doesnt make sense to shut down the rides and retheme them with minor cosmetic changes in order to sell merch, when the change in merch sales would more than likely be minimal. Besides that casual fans dont really care which era its set in, so changing it would probably be confusing to some. With that being said I found your video very well made and Im now subbed to your channel. I am looking forward to the future of your channel, I really see the potential in your work 👍

    • @PoseidonEntertainment
      @PoseidonEntertainment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You definitely make a good point. I really don't know how well a retheme would affect merch sales, but I'm taking two things into consideration. First, Disney leadership has given me the impression that IP synergy = merch sales through its push for IP based attractions. Obviously I don't have that data, and maybe I'm completely incorrect as to the reasoning for pushing IP, but I know that Chapek made his name through Disney merchandising. Second, if Disney is going to commit so much to the immersion of the land, they really can't just start selling OT merch without it reflecting the land it's in.
      All of this being said, I'm not entirely sure Disney even cares to maintain that level of thematic integrity. The lack of interactivity that was originally promised works against the land as a whole. The whole "scan it with your phone" aspect is cheap and is still outshined by Universal's interpretation of The Wizarding World. Even the Super Nintendo Land preview shows next-level interactive elements that makes the wand interactivity gimmicky. For all that Disney promised, they didn't commit and I'm not sure they'll continue to do so with the overall theme if they think they can make more money otherwise.
      But, you're right in that I don't really know. As much as I dislike seeing the new films represented because I think they're poorly made, realistically I understand an actual Galaxy's Edge retheme is unlikely.

    • @TheSEAempire
      @TheSEAempire 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PoseidonEntertainment the fact that I forgot about the scanning app sorta shows how poorly integrated it was into the first place. While I personally love the OT the most I am fine with how GE is set within the ST. Its nice for the kids who are growing up with them right now. I remember seeing a group of little kids who were super excited to see Rey while I was there, it was truly heartwarming. Im actually curious to know, outside of the lore and time period of galaxys edge, what do you think of the land?

    • @PoseidonEntertainment
      @PoseidonEntertainment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that Rey is decently popular, though I attribute that more to Daisy Ridley's charisma as an actress than Rey as a character. Even though I think her character is written poorly, she's still likeable.
      Overall, I'm I feel pretty warmly on the land but I think there's a lot of lost potential. I don't have much interest in Avatar as a franchise, but as a land, Pandora absolutely seems like it was crafted with love and care. In contrast, I make the point in the video that Galaxy's Edge feels like a very corporate shopping mall and that I think part of the reason is because the ST films themselves feel like a checklist of things meant to bait people with nostalgia for the OT. Regardless, I would say I like it overall though. My little montage at the beginning of this video reflects how I feel about it. That being said, it feels like there's so much untapped potential.
      To elaborate, Smuggler's Run seems like a good idea in theory, but didn't really work out. The mission it presents us with, I find to be kind of boring and considering leaked concept art and footage, originally looked to be far more exciting. As an experience, I also don't think it works because the people you're riding with just kind of sit there and do nothing, or if you're not the pilot, seems to always be piloted by people who have zero ability to do so. We already discussed the lack of interactivity that was originally promised and while I think Rise of the Resistance is pretty good, I'm not nearly as impressed with it as most other people. I discuss that in more depth with this video here: th-cam.com/video/BxQnv4zSxJQ/w-d-xo.html

    On disney + there’s a show called Behind the Attraction and a show called Imagineering. Both shows talk about Galaxy’s Edge and why it is themed around Batu (a place that has never been spoken about in the movies, shows, comics, etc). They did it to stay timeless and so they wouldn’t have to constantly update it to fit current movies.

    • @BrendanYoungMusic
      @BrendanYoungMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, they actually did it because Kathleen Kennedy literally pulled the plug on Tatooine at the last minute. The Imagineers actually had Tatooine almost completely designed and planned, but Kennedy is such a huge femenist that she literally said something along the lines of "we don't want to make Star Wars for the fifty something white man", shut them down, and made them start completely over to base it on her own ideas, so that she could insert her own spin, and not give any attention to what the fans actually wanted, basically spitting in the face of all the fans that have kept Star Wars alive over the years. She's the one responsible for the terrible treatment of Luke Skywalker, so it makes sense that she'd hijack this for her own devices as well
